I have never liked his stand-up and think he was only funny in the sitcom. That does not mean he lacks talent or skill. Just means he isn't good at one medium. Like, I don't wanna see Hugh Jackman try to do stand-up either, but he is clearly good as Wolverine.

You ever seen Joe rogans do stand up? Fricking hell, car crashes are better than him. Someone should tell that poor fool.

But that's clearly the case. All he is is a witty arogant prick and all the funny came from Larry David. But since the show is called Seinfeld and all those stand up routines have laughtrack, sheeple attributed the success incorrectly.

      >Because he's my butler!

It's his delivery that makes him funny. He'll say something mundane, but it makes me laugh. But that might be Larry David's doing.

The Pop Tart movie literally ends with Andy Warhol shooting Seinfeld’s character and saying ‘only I may be derivative!’, like the guy has some stupid beef with Warhol because it’s ‘derivative’ to paint a can of soup. Not to mention Warhol was the one who was shot, in history, so he rewrote a shooting victim to be a shooter

Larry David is great, but I'm not sure his career would ever have evolved without creating Seinfeld with Jerry. He'd probably be stuck trying to do awkward standup and eventually quit

Seinfeld, the show, is good, mostly thanks to Larry David, Jason, and Mike Richards. Jerry Seinfeld, on the other hand, it's a hack and a self-obsessed diva who failed upwards with Larry Davids help.

          curb is alright
it's not as good as seinfeld, but for what it is, it's ok
the fact that the episodes are so long and that larry is the only main character are two big hurdles he manages to overcome (most of the time)
but curb is definitely overrated, it's not even like top 10 sitcoms, let alone a classic or among the best, it's just passable

Curb is the exact same kind of humor style as Seinfeld, so Larry's influence is clear, though I've never really cared for it.

no one EVER though Seinfeld was the 'funny' person on that show
He was the 'normal' person the others would pivot off of so naturally he didn't present the parts to laugh at as much as others because the others were more like clowns
Seinfeld was very funny for about 60% of its run, then got bad, most people would agree on that who were around at the time
its an old show, how the frick do you judge an old dated show (which was the most successful show of all time when running) as being funny or not?
humor changes overtime...Seinfeld as a stand up was pretty funny
Seinfeld was the writer on the show along with Larry David and some others
Kramer became le kooky reddit wacky zany character in the last seasons, anyone who is a kramerfan is the same sort of homosexual that likes rick and morty

          >He was the 'normal' person the others would pivot off of
But he played the part horribly because he's a talentless actor who failed upward and got named after an undeservedly syndicated television show
          >how the frick do you judge an old dated show
By noticing how other shows who are older than it completely eclipse it in humor and in subject matter.
          >Seinfeld as a stand up was pretty funny
That's fricking bullshit, given how unironically autistic Seinfeld is as a person coupled by his unwarranted self-importance.

Plenty of old comedies still hold up. Zoomers today are still watching original Tom and Jerry episodes.

      >seinfeld sucks?
Because it's true, it's a dated, limp-dicked, bland show whose only claim to fame according to its fans is how "controversial" and "envelope-pushing" it was for the time. The fact that fricking Cheers has aged better and is funnier than Seinfeld says a lot about how lame and hackneyed it is at this point. Its dickriders only make it look worse due to how hard they jerk off to it.
Also it's named after an unfunny homosexual of a first-time director who actually thought he could do Python and failed miserably at it despite his resource pool, and rightfully so.

i love seinfeld and not because it's controversial or whatever i genuinely think it's a good and funny show
and i'm not a fanboy either i'd gladly admit curb is pretty shit
but i'd like to know why you think cheers is better, not as a dig, i am genuinely curious
what about the comedy in cheers makes it stand out and age better than sein?

          Anonymous

          >but i'd like to know why you think cheers is better
The characters are warmer and have sharper dialogue with better jokes, there's better chemistry between the cast that makes it feel like an actual community of losers who hang around a bar all day. My gripe is that it has the same problems that Seinfeld has where certain characters don't transform in any meaningful way and stay one-note in order to make syndication easier (Cliff and Norm being the best examples). But they balance that out by having Woody and Frasier's relationship arcs and shit. The jokes are obviously not all perfect, but again the feeling of genuine connection between the characters and how they bounce off each other makes them land more naturally. There's a weird timelessness to their dynamics and shit, I guess.

            Anonymous

i understand what you're saying but i'm not sure i'm really looking for a genuine emotional connection when i watch a sitcom, or characters that evolve over time
like, i enjoyed scrubs and the office, both which have those elements, but i think i enjoyed the office *less* because it did that, not more
ultimately i just want to detach when i watch a sitcom, i don't take the characters seriously, they're not fully real to me like when i watch a drama

              Anonymous

I don't care for either of those shows myself. Cheers works in how it's all more or less one setting with a handful of outings where the humor is dependent on how the cast works off of each other, and the time they spend together made the dynamics better due to time spent on-set and in-universe. There aren't a lot of emotional scenes but they're well-acted because the cast has a very firm grip on the parts they play. I guess a good example is the bottle cap episode. The fact that it's basically a stage play helps in that for me. That's also why I like Trailer Park Boys a lot, since there too they spend a shitton of time playing them to the point that they can eventually just improvise.

Haven't seen it but I saw one scene that was fine, I guess. Trailer Park Boys is solid too up to a point, but I dropped off with the new shit because it lost its charm for me when they actually upgraded the recording equipment.

another one that's amazing is nirvana the band the show

Where the frick are you getting this? When has anything bad ever happened to Jerry? He had a billionaire career in Seinfeld and then he literally threw his hands up saying he’s too rich to have to work ever again, and then he made money filming himself at lunch with people. What has he ever had to overcome beyond the average human experience of working and shit, what ‘bad thing’ do you mean happened to Seinfeld?

Yeah remember when Jerry fricking arbitrated the Kramer apology and yelled at the audience ‘STOP LAUGHING! You can hear the panic and narcissistic injury in his voice when he realizes he doesn’t have the audience under control, and says ITS NOT FUNNY! Hilarious shit

He's not funny by himself, but who cares? Seinfeld (the show) has a "writers room" vibe where all the people involved helped to make it a funny show.
Like, Conan O'Brien was a writer on the Simpsons and has writers on his TV show.
He never had a standalone stand-up career, but that doesn't matter.

He wasn't and it's pretty much universally agreed that Alexander and Richards carried the show. Kramer was a bit of a homosexual, his main gimmick is how he's a human pariah and makes everyone else's lives miserable got old really quickly. George got old slower but him being a bitter little bald butthole eventually just got on my nerves. Once I started disliking him I had no reason to keep watching the show.
He's way too castrated and mentally deficient to be edgy, I don't know why he's so fixated on this issue apart from how he once said that he's autistic.

He has a deep seated insecurity about not being responsible for the entire show, and for being the prime example of a shitty comedian. When people make up an example of a shitty joke, they impersonate Jerry’s voice and say ‘what’s the deal with…’

Michael Richards is a narcissistic drama kid though. Seinfeld being a terrible actor was a running gag in the show. The TV series he & George did George was always saying "you can't act". In a way cleaver because when you have a person who isn't a natural actor it is best to play on that
