Reshoots can't be cheap. Do they really recoup all that money?

        Anonymous

They're very expensive. Usually even more expensive than principal photography because you have to bring in some of the old crew and actors who might be already attached to another project. Also they might have to do severe overtime to get shit done, so again it gets expensive really fast.

I guess from a financial perspective it worked for Rogue One, but definitely didn't for Solo.

          Anonymous

          >it worked for Rogue One
The movie would have probably made just the same money or more without intervention so I'm pretty sure it was always a net loss. It looks like KK does these reshoots to stamp her fingerprints on te movie, it's about deposessing the film from the director. After reshoots it's not his movie anymore, it's hers. And it always sucked. People say Rogue One was saved by reshoots. How can you say that without seeing the original cut? Solo had extensive reshoots and the film didn't make any money, it was such a huge finacial loss that they stopped making movies altogether.

            Anonymous

It's impossible to determine how the movie would have fared at the box office with or without the reshoots, but everything that fanboys basedface over in that movie (the third act battle, Vader swinging his lightsaber around) was stuff added in the reshoots.

I don't think the battle was made during the reshoots and I despise the Vader hall scenes but it made basedboys wet in their panties because muh Vader brutal scene. It was ridiculous.

The hallyway scene isn't played for horror, it's meant to be le epically badass xD and you're supposed to be whooping and hollering as Vader kills the Rebel goons with his lightsaber

I actually really liked Vader's wanton slaughter of civilians in ep 3 of Kenobi because it made Vader scary again and reminds the audience that Vader is a bad guy who does bad things, he's not an action figure

No Vader doesn't kill kids "just because" he's always had logic to it. That entire scene was a characterization of him and it lead me to believe the writers have no idea how to accurately portray him. Hilariously an under-budget cartoon did it better:

That's a lie a simple google search disproves Lucasarts was in the process of making a bunch of triple A games at the time of the Disney acquisition. Lucasarts was shut down 4 moths after the acquisition because Disney thought that video games were a waste of time and didn't make enough money. Then a month later Lucasfilm gave the rights to make star wars games to EA. Even if Kennedy didn't choose to shut down LucasArts she still choose to give a monopoly to EA.

    1. Hollywood is all about failing upwards.
    2. It's very difficult to get rid of someone that high up in the corporate hierarchy, you can't just fire them like normal. Ousting her would probably be very expensive and would cause bad press. So your option would be to wait for her contract to expire then the board would have to decline to renew it. Corporations don't like change and uncertainty so as long as she isn't actively hurting the bottom line the board is going to keep inviting her back.

      Anonymous

The thing is they actually renewed her contract back in 2021. It was only until 2024 which really shows they don't have any faith in her and are only giving her one more chance but still.

I think a three year renewal is pretty standard, they've been renewing it in 3 year increments since she was put in charge

3 year renewal in '21 speaks to me of covid uncertainty. Disney also just went through a CEO change in 2020, they probably figured too much instability would be a bad thing at this point and releasing films anytime before '23 is probably out of the question to begin with. Theaters need time to recover as does the general economy. My guess would be there won't be much more than shows for the next few years and they'll reassess based on toy sales, streaming numbers, and general reviews. If they decide star wars is going to become a show only property that props up disney+ keeping her is probably fine, but if they want back into the movie game she's probably going to need to perform over these next few years.

was probably on her knees most of the time and being a gopher for lucas/spielberg. kept quiet and did the whole 'yes sir' up until she kept on getting promoted. then decides to crash and burn the name (starwars) under the pretense that it's higher management/fans that are pushing for change (i.e 'the message'/lgtbqxyz/sjw/fem-power).

sleeps on piles of money and praise, though not soundly because off all the times she was on her knees/back while working for lucas/spielberg.
