He was a lot better when he was younger. Like his material was arguably at its prime when he was just making up songs in his bedroom and posting them to YouTube.

white woman's instagram, how the world works, welcome to the internet, that funny feeling, and the reaction bit were pretty good. maybe 30 also.
      the rest was lame

but put them all together, and suddenly it's a mastapiss!
      I don't get it.

his relatability to other smarmy white-guilt redditor pieces of shit?

  5. 2 years ago
    Anonymous

he makes catchy songs with mostly corny (some clever) jokes. redditors and twitter built him up to be some sort of prophetic comedic mastermind they can champion because its every millennial's dream to sit inside for years due to mental health issues and make "art" that everyone gives a shit about, when in actuality he just makes catchy joke songs. and no morons like you think he's a piece of shit because he got hyped to the fricking moon

      Anonymous

He's been doing stage shows for years before he did his "sit inside with mental health" special, where he performed live a bunch of songs, coordinating with light and stage sound cues, all in one take.
You can say whatever you want about redditors cumming with his dick and his otherwise unimpressive writing skills but this takes absurd amounts of talent.

        Every musician does that.

          Anonymous

Being a successful musician at all is much harder than a lot of people give credit for. People think “big deal, I could write a song like that” but in reality for most people it would be a pretty big accomplishment to even write and perform one really good song, let alone enough to have multiple albums.

he didn't really get lionized until after the inside special though. before everyone just thought he did fun/quirky joke music with some cool light fx in the live show

If you can get past his unoriginality in lyrics and themes you are in for some amazing music.

He’s way better than weird al in terms of his writing. There’s a massive skill gap between parodying already existing songs and creating originals.

Hardware Store and Virus Alert were great but so many of Bo Burnham’s songs are better in my opinion.
              >High School Party
              >have a nice day
              >Sad
              >Love is
              >New Math
All fantastic songs and the list goes on. On an unrelated note I think another good comedy song writer who seems to never be brought up anymore is Jonathon Coulton. He had some great shit even if it wasn’t all strictly comedic. People just remember him as being reddit because he did the songs for the portal games.

Weird Al is unironically a musical genius. If he went "straight" from the start he could have been another Prince. This isn't even an exaggeration.

Comparing him to Bo Burnham is moronic though, they don't even really do the same thing beyond the most surface level assessment possible.

Nah. I defend Bo but listen to Weird Al's Hardware Store.
It's not poignant and deep, but it's way more impressive than what Bo does.

I’ve heard it. It was my favorite song by him as a kid. I don’t think it’s better than some of Bo Burnham’s material.
