Characters, mostly. After ISB took over a lot of them got worse. Kira went from a PTSD-suffering ex-terrorist who over times loses her “black and white” view of the universe and sees things in grey, realizes Cardassians aren’t all bad, learns to respect others and their opinions, into a psycho narcissist who murders a mutilated civilian war victim while shouting about how “all Cardassians are legitimate targets” and punching out her own security officers to get to a decompressed room. Odo goes from an outsider perspective obsessed with law and order, desperate to find a place to fit in and struggling with Quark to just Kira’s simp. Jadzia goes from a wise advisor to Sisko to loose party girl and Klingon LARPer who takes sadistic pleasure in embarrassing Worf at every turn. Sisko himself goes from a traumatized Starfleet officer trying to reconcile the Bajoran beliefs about him with his job as a Starfleet officer to Space Black Jesus dispensing blessings and fighting demons. Garak goes from cool intelligence officer with his own goals and way of looking at the universe to Starfleet Lite. And Dukat… Dukat goes from regretful dictator to Space Hitler then Space Satan.
Compare all that to the character development with Londo, G’kar, Bester, Sheridan, and you can see how much worse DS9 had it.

              Hmm
You're not wrong, but I don't remember Kira being like that
Frick Jadzia though, worst character ever
She's Wesley/Beverly, but gets a pass for being hot

I dropped B5 halfway through S2 so I can't say. I got sick of the show becoming 100% about the bland human leads.

Well, that's an incredibly moronic take. At no point in the show did it even move in that direction.
Let's look at s2 just to see evaluate this stupid opinion.
1 - Sheridan-centric, partly to establish him as a character, partly as a follow up to the s1 finale, partly due to Delenn becoming a butterfly.
2 - Prominent roles for Londo and G'Kar. Start of G'Kar's character change.
3 - Focused on Londo, Vir, and the visiting technomages. Sheridan plays a secondary role.
                4 - Sheridan and Delenn A/B plots.
5 - Human centric, yes, but also another heavy foreshadowing episode.
6 - Human centric, foreshadows Psi Corp/Clark's Gov crap.
7 - Two plotlines are about Londo and Delenn. Talia C plot.
8 - Psi Corp (human) episode.
9 - Focused on G'Kar and Londo due to Centauri Emperor's visit.
10 - One of more episodic episodes. Only big tie-in is that the new defense systems for B5 are important later on.
                11 - Sheridan A plot, Delenn B plot.
                12 - G'Kar A plot, Ivanova B plot.
13 - Human episode, but about Earth Gov conspiracy. Has some Vorlon lore.
14 - Primary plot is about Sheridan, secondary plot is minor. Delenn and Lennier play important roles.
15 - Another stand alone episode with minor roles from main cast.
16 - Kosh and Delenn reveal the coming darkness to Sheridan.
17 - Londo deals with an old friend.
18 - Stand alone episode. Major focus on Dr. Franklin. Secondary focus on Delenn.
19 - Psi Corp conspiracy episode.
20 - Narn-Centauri war comes to a close. G'Kar gives his magnum opus speech.
21 - Delenn focused episode. Sheridan plays a secondary role. Kind of corny.
22 - Shit goes down with the Narn. Earth Gov conspiracy grows as the ThoughtPolice get bigger on B5.

Literally the Shadow War is all about aliens vs aliens, humans don’t even matter until mid-S4.

No, they set up a lot of the Psi Corp/Clark Gov conspiracy throughout s2.

    1. Babylon 5 or DS9, both have strong arguments, but some pretty big flaws that keep them from being completely superior to the other
    3. Battlestar Galactica. S1 and S2 are arguably better than even the peaks of B5/DS9, but it falls off hard, largely because the plot could have been wrapped in s3. The endings gets a lot of hate, but the real flaw is the sheer amount of filler over the last two seasons.
    4. Space: Above and Beyond aka BSG-Lite. I doubt any of it is verified, but Scar is very similar to Chiggy von Richthofen and in general, the militaristic bent of BSG seems inspired by SA:AB.
    5. The Next Generation - It's completely hit or miss episode to episode, but as a whole it's better than anything else out.

Some anon recommended UFO in a Farscape thread a few months ago and it's pretty damn good considering the release date and the budget. It's pretty much a proto-XCOM with strong Thunderbirds vibes and surprisingly decent sci-fi writing.
