Ah yes, movies like Memoirs of an Invisible Man and Escape from LA, unforgettable masterpieces of cinema that had a lasting impact on the art of filmmaking and influenced an entire generation of filmmakers.
One could feasibly argue that Hollywood would not be the same without films like those.
>One could feasibly argue that Hollywood would not be the same without films like those.
You actually can argue that for: >Assault on Precinct 13 >Halloween >Escape from New York >The Thing >Big Trouble in Little China >They Live
I wish I could include In the Mouth of Madness there, but as much as I love it I don't think I can in all honesty.
escape from NY was probably really good in the 70s and the song is memorable, it really doesn't hold up it's more of an action movie blueprint, at least something like commando is still fun to watch but maybe that's just my opinion, mind you I didn't watch escape from NY til I was 30 so it could just be a case of missing nostalgia
I personally think Halloween 1 is better and still holds up ok
I love the comfy winter setting and atmosphere of the Thing, however the small coastal town setting and spooky atmosphere combined with Carpenters greatest soundtrack is what does it even more for me.

Guy is a fucking anomaly, had a 40 year long directing career. Now just plays video games and makes kick ass music with his son and collect checks, supremely based

I think he's working with a game studio to make a game now, Toxic Commando. Also if there's ever a Dead Space movie, he should direct it.
It is. I will never get tired of James Woods calling a brooding, supposedly terrifying 10,000 year old vampire emperor a homosexual and "pole-smoking fashion victim" lmao
>WHAT FILM OF HIS IS KINO BUT FILTERS THE MOST PEOPLE
It used to be Prince of Darkness or In the Mouth of Madness but they are both well-regarded now. In terms of the disparity between reputation and the movie's actual virtues, honestly, it's Escape from LA.
For me it's always been Escape from New York.
The Thing is probably the best, but They Live is the most rewatchable
Seen the thing 50 times , I never seen They live.
The Thing is my favorite but probably Big Trouble in Little China. But it depends on what you mean by that.
You should.
It's comfy, from the soundtrack to the flannel worn by rowdy roddy piper
when the last half of the third act happens, try to smile politely
The Thing is more rewatchable in my opinion. They Live is great don't get me wrong, but I even like Christine a whole lot more.
Everything he's ever done is the definition of mediocre except for Escape from NY which is slightly above mediocre.
Everything he's ever done is the peak of their respective genre.
Ghosts of Mars, truly the pinnacle of sci-fi horror.
dey got ghosts out dere dis big?
guilty pleasure , ending scene was lame.

There's nothing I could say to you that is as bad as having to wake up every day being you with such opinions. Sorry, anon.
His movies just aren't that good, people only like them because of nostalgia and nothing more.
I watched most of them as an adult, so I'm going to have to disagree that it's just nostalgia.

I actually feel the exact opposite re: Escape from New York & Commando, albeit I still like to watch Commando during an Arnold run.
>definition of mediocre
what's your definition of excellent? give examples
The fog (1980)
>final boss is mineral oil in a leafblower
what was he trying to tell us, bros?
It only gets good in the final act.
I love the comfy winter setting and atmosphere of the Thing, however the small coastal town setting and spooky atmosphere combined with Carpenters greatest soundtrack is what does it even more for me.
Haven't watched The Fog in a long time, will have to do so.
He just dropped a new track two days ago.

Wat nou?
Someone's Watching Me and the Masters of Horror are already in my watchlist and I've seen the original Village of the Damned.
Dark Star is my favorite, though partly for nostalgia.
I guess most of those on the right he just wrote? I looked them all up and they all sound horrible.
Vampires is a good film and I'm tired of pretending it isn't.
Correct.

Are you guys fucking stupid? Why would his most popular films be the final boss? Let me rephrase, WHAT FILM OF HIS IS KINO BUT FILTERS THE MOST PEOPLE
Maybe just say that first next time you fucking retard.

The money he gets from all of the Halloween remakes.
Drunk EFNY and EFLA double features are my favorite past time. Two of the most perfect post-apoc masterpieces in cinema.
shitty remakes
