wonky cinematography and overacting I can stomach, but super clone ripley, who is lesbo for the android for some reason, and human-alien mating to create whatever the frick that white thingy is called, those were a bit too much for me personally.
Resurrection is just a mess. I wasn't expecting to dislike it as much as a did. Ok paper it seems relatively inoffensive but it came together in a way that was awful.
Res' development had about three films worth of material that was cut down into one. From what we know it was going to be more Aliens-esque with sprinkling of 3, but somewhere along the way it was chopped up and put in a blender. I know a lot of people want to blame Starship Troopers for tone and humor in the film but they released the same year and were in development at the same time. I think Scream's success had a more profound impact on the tone of the movie than anything else, since Aliens has always had that horror blood and Scream radically altered the horror landscape in Hollywood in the late 90s.
It might have been better with a different director and if they had been allowed to do two or three movies with clone Ripley, but we will never know.
Alien 3 since it needlessly retconned the ending of Aliens into trash, shitting on its previous film, making plot hole filled nonsensical story just to justify putting Ripley by herself on a prison planet to die. All for no reason. Easily could have had the film pick up a decade or two later, Ripley had long since gone back to being a spacer or retired on Earth or whatever, then create a reason for her to head out again and encounter the Xeno once more. Instead, oh look what happened, it killed the entire Aliens franchise for years which it's still never recovered from. It just spins its wheels creating ever more shit movies. All because the stupidity of Alien 3. It's a fine stand alone film and entertaining, but a shit sequel or part of a trilogy.
>retconned the ending of Aliens into trash
It had to be done, otherwise there'd be no point for a sequel and nobody would want to make one without ripley. It is also fitting when you consider the thematic content in Alien 3
>making plot hole filled nonsensical story just to justify putting Ripley by herself on a prison planet to die. All for no reason
There is an allegorical explanation for it, but figuring it out for yourself is part of the fun
>it killed the entire Aliens franchise, All because the stupidity of Alien 3
Alien was already an anomaly for being so good of a film, Aliens even more so since decent sequels are so rare. Expecting such a streak to continue was unrealistic to begin with, but even more so you can't really blame Alien 3 for Resurrection and prequels being bad, as they were made by very different people and even used your idea of using very different time period and/or characters
hot take perhaps but i think aliens ruined the franchise by shifting the genre towards action. it's a great standalone film but terrible in scope of the series history
They really should just adapt some of the extended universe books. Phalanx was pretty fricking good, xenos against bronze age humans. No guns or future tech, just melee weapons
>Phalanx was pretty fricking good, xenos against bronze age humans.
So the same old thing again... but with a gimmick! Personally I'm tired of watching xenos pick off a group of victims one by one in a helpless situation. The first film did it perfectly and so that was the only one we needed.
Actually homosexual, it wasn't one by one. They literally went to war with the xenos, hundreds of them against humans with nothing but spears and shields.
Anything after resurrection is equally trash
>Anything after resurrection is equally trash
You meant to say after Alien 3 right?
Nah Resurrection is french cringekino

last thread anons said resurrection was good
Definitely not 3, that movie wasn't perfect but it had its moments.

Yeah her and the relationship she has with Ripley is the best part about it.

midwit here, what was the explanation please

Covenant
Alien 3 was fricking garbage and any finchgay who defends it shouldn't be taken seriously. It was bad in theatre cut and it was bad in directors cut

Reddit shit
Prey already used a similar concept anyways
AVP2 if it counts
Otherwise, Covenant
Covenant, easily. Huge waste of time.
