The writers concealed their subversive intent until later in the series. So they are learning, but just the wrong lessons. They can't just goddamn fricking leave a good work alone, they have to get in there and ruin it.

Slop for yellow fever homosexuals based on a crappy self-insert novel from the 70s.

No, man the self insert was in the book about being in a horrible Japanese jail for prisoners of war.
I really expect the rest of the books to be adapted.

I think that James Clavelle would be proud that two competent adaptations of his book were popular with the public. The second even popular in Japan.

Well it seems like it wasn't repudiated like the 1980 version. Some of the Japanese actors have been giving interviews in Japanese media.

I was really enjoying it but haven't finished it. Each episode seemed to focus more and more on woman drama rather than the stuff that actually makes the show cool and interesting. There's a fricking war about to break out in which the losing side is 100% wiped out but oh no let's focus on woman drama.

Mediocre "prestige" series shilled by homosexuals and loved by morons. They're adding Nobunaga's Black person butler next season so you idots will claim it "went woke" even though it was based on some revisionist angloid novel in the first place.

best new show in a while. Although I kinda hope they don't force a season 2 (kinda like what AMC did with the terror). Would rather see the team do another historical japan story, regardless of whether it's based on a book.

Christianising Japan was good. Without it, is truly desolate. Despite what the writers may want to present, I understood more why pagans converted, there's no other hope without Christ.

      I say this understanding it's a show. I know. It's a TV show.

That's the thing. The ~~*British*~~ writer of the novel was some 70s lolbert who did coke and went to swinger parties and naturally wrote about how cool Japan was for having sex toys and open marriages and how bad and restrictive Christian morality was.

Everyone on Cinemaphile got tricked into watching a feminist narrative

    >Toranaga owes his victory to Mariko.
    >Blackthorne is just a monkey paraded around and his only purpose is character development for Mariko
    >Ishido is a powerless bureaucrat that lusts and admires Ochiba.
    >Buntaro is cucked at every turn.
    >Every other prominent male character is either killed, cucked, or commits seppuku to advance the plot
    >"Old prostitute" is the only one that sees through Toranaga's plan.
    >Mariko is instrumental to bringing down Ishido and the council of regents. "I sent a woman to do what an army of men could not".
    >Ochiba is treated as being this powerful entity that controls her fate and has pull over the council of regents even though in that time period she would have just been a glorified incubator.
    >Every episode is dedicated to Mariko and Blackthorne's love story and conflict while Toranaga sits back, says a line or two and things just happen in his favor.

I sure did enjoy watching 10 episodes of Mariko's bullshit, expecting something significant to happen with Toranaga only to be given a flashforward at the end of the show.

The book and 80s series are vastly different in tone and focus to the 2024 series. That much is evident, the only thing this series does well if give you a host of waifus to hold you over Blackthorne and Mariko's drama.

My main complaint is not even with the two adaptations.
How come they didn't think about making a paperback edition of the books of the Asian saga. When Game of thrones started the books were sold mostly in this format ( except a dance with dragons, it was published months after some the end of the first season).
How come the clavelle state didn't think about that?

      Because his methods were questionable.

Because he kind of was. He saw literally everyone around him as a tool to use to further his own ambitions while hiding behind his “I just want peace” shlop
