Squidward getting a rare happy ending

      >This is his one and only true win
      >every other episode of Spongebob that he appears in he either is just another character or he takes a loss
He also looks like he's going to win but then gets smug about it and loses hard (Squilliam Returns).
My favorite episode is Nasty Patty, and he just isn't in the episode. I always found it strange that a good portion of the episode takes place at the Krusty Krab and he's nowhere to be seen.

Because the Nasty Patty was made from Squidward's remains

        >This is his one and only true win
        >every other episode of Spongebob that he appears in he either is just another character or he takes a loss
That episode with the scene everyone hates with Squidward's toenail actually ends in a win for him. Squidward expects the snooty critic to ridicule his house for being wrecked, but the guy actually considers it high art, and Squilliam is left flabbergasted.

There's also the episode with Squidward's girlfriend.

Some TV Tropes autist actually listed every episode where Squidward wins and there was like 5 or 6 of them, but I saw that page back in 2015, there might have been a couple more since then.

Summed it up really. Plus it came out RIGHT before 9/11, like a last hurrah of sorts

its the last episode that aired before 9/11, i believe on September 8, 2001.

in other words, the world peaked at this moment.

All of the cast coming together to defeat an outsider enemy. Sponge Bob being a leader. Things finally go well for Squidward.

    Squidward getting a happy ending

All the anons saying that it's the ending are right, but you guys are forgetting that the episode is one of the most gut-busting in the whole series too. It's fucking joke after joke hitting nonstop throughout the episode, and then the finale comes and just ties this beautiful ribbon on the whole thing. I think it might be one of the most flawless episodes of any comedy series period.

It also helps that pretty much every character is in it and all of them get a good joke.

And they eschew their normal routines for it as well. Plankton doesn't have a joke about stealing the Krabby Patty formula, he plays the Harmonica because that's funny. Krabs isn't saying anything about money, he throws down because those claws aren't just for attracting mates. Sandy has nothing to do with extreme sports, she gets angry. I know, remember when that was her thing? Extreme physical stuff, instead of science nonstop?)

It's not just that they get their own jokes, they get their own unique jokes that still fits their characters.

    >Squidward is constantly being made the butt monkey and having to deal with bullshit
    >Chief among them being from Spongebob and Patrick
    >Squidward isn't even a bad guy and you can sympathize and relate to him.
    >Dickwad wants to see him crash and burn live trying to achieve his greatest dream or otherwise fail to even show
    >After everything looks like its going to go to shit with the cast once again fucking him over, Spongebob (his usual biggest source of harassment) steps up and rallies the cast to actually get their shit together and help
    >Leads to completely and utterly triumphant win for Squidward with no strings attached as the cast finally pulls through for him
    >Dickwad btfo
    >Kickass and fitting song
    >Perfect end shot with Squidward simply jumping with pure joy in contrast to how we usually see him.
It was just a really nice episode

non-sequitur but this episode was also really pop-culture representative by the show's standards. All that footage of real life football and concert crowds really helps sell the ending.

Good jokes, I get that the musical act is great but the jokes fucking slayed me on a first watch, the only 2 episodes that compare are the imagination and delivery one
It's just good, doubly so if you like squidward and that song

    >Squidward, who always wanted to be recognized, finally gets a chance to do so
    >He's given a dickish alter-ego rival that challenges him to it, a man who represents all the successes Squidward wanted, fully expecting him to fail miserably
    >Actually puts in a lot of hard work and effort, no bullshit
    >Gathers the entire cast of the show together to help him
    >Just when it seems all hope is lost, Spongebob, the usual source of Squidward's ire, gets the whole cast's shit together
    >You, as the audience, are still expecting some kind of comedic catastrophic failure
    >Song starts playing and it kicks ass, Squidward's dickwad rival has a literal heart attack from the shot, freeze frame on squidward jumping up in joy
    >Episode is also full of amazing jokes, some of the best and most memorable in the series, nonstop and back to back

It feels almost like some kind of series finale, it's perfectly constructed. And yeah, the fact it was the last episode to air just days before 9/11 probably had at least a subconscious impact if you were old enough to see it premier. For me and a lot of people it was the last new piece of media you saw before 9/11, in a media sense the finale to that era.

A funny episode wth a satisfying ending that took itself seriously. That's really it. Also something embarrassing about this being America's latest victory before 9/11 or whatever people came up with over the years

Good ending aside it was also hilarious even for golden age Spongebob standards. It had funny jokes nonstop all the way through.

Have you seen it? The good ending is just the cap off, it's so tightly written you could slice a brick with it. It flows from scene to scene perfectly and is jam packed with actually funny jokes that lets an entire cast shine with their own unique bits in 11 minutes, that's hard to do. It wasn't good because the out of nowhere funny/great final song and Squidward getting a shockingly rare absolute win, it was good because that ending came after the rest of the episode was already great.

They stuck the landing after a 10 pointer flip, simple as.
