He's a cutie with an attitude!!! Aww look at him he's so angwy!!! It's it adowable!!!

His greatest internal struggle should be about how no one takes him seriously because of his appearance.

He gets treated like dirt by absolutely everyone except Groot until he runs into Quill. Nova corps calls him "it". He’s got plenty to be mad about. It’s a miracle he turned out as balanced as he is.

They do touch upon this within the first movie actually. He lashes out in the bar scene about not being taken seriously. The issue is sadly they never really bring it up much after that. It's a very under developed aspect of his character.

Big guy personality in small guy body, the contrast makes him appealing

He's probably the only character whose personal trauma is actually compelling. The death of family is one thing, and is certainly traumatic, but I don't think it compares to the horrors that Rocket went through. The rest of the crew had their lives ripped away from them, but Rocket never had the chance to have a life in the first place.

What did he go through? Lab tests?

He got gangbanged and creampied by the lab scientists everyday.

            What's that?

Less "tests" and more "near complete genetic and physical alteration utilizing excruciatingly painful procedures spread out over the course of several years, with little to no care for the mental wellbeing of the patient".

He was created by physically modifying. What looked like a baby raccoon. This was a horrible process where he was, to quote him, "torn apart and put back together over and over." Then he either escaped from the lab or was abandoned and was subsequently treated like shit by absolutely everyone for years. As a result he views himself as a horrible little monster and has severe abandonment issues as well.

I remember being in the theater for the first Guardians movie. At the end, after Groot sacrificed himself and Rocket is holding a twig and crying, and then Drax pets him, everyone started laughing. This little boy stood up and shouted "It's not funny, his boyfriend died! UGH!" Shit made my day. Honestly, it's always some little kid at one of those movies that makes watching it worthwhile. I went straight from a funeral to seeing Amazing Spider-Man 2 with friends, and I got a bit choked up at the funeral speech. A little boy next to me took my hand and said, "It's okay dude, it's just a movie, don't cry." I think Rocket has appeal because he's funny to kids and adults alike but also has good voice acting and a compelling story. Plus as someone said, the furry art.

I simply just like that he says alot of what the audience is thinking at the moment calling out how stupid or irrational someone is being and to get over themselves. Bradley Cooper's voice is fantastic also; I think that helps.

      >Bradley Cooper's voice is fantastic
Honestly it still blows my mind how great Cooper is as Rocket, he was THE last guy i'd imagine they'd pick for his voice, especially cause before the MCU most of Rocket's voices had a wienerney accent and i was so used to that but, like Cooper's Bruce Willis/Joe Pesci styled voice and delivery really endeared me a lot over the course of Rocket's tenure in the MCU.

Why is Marvel not doing anything with GotG right now? They haven't had a comic in like 2 years, and it wasn't canned for low sales but instead the author wanted to move on.

for me Personally it a mix of his character design i find appealing, and his personality of being an overall good caring person, but still acting like a piece of shit some time which i find endearing.

Tho i may be massively biased since i somehow have a massive mental fixation onto him and i can stop thinking about him and looking art of him.

I hate that I like him so much. I read his comics and they’re constantly bringing up how awful he is to date. It’s torture.

A few years ago he got a comic series that started with a literal army of his jilted ex girlfriends trying to murder him. Apparently he’d date them (poorly) for a few days, steal a bunch of their money and never speak to them again. The rest of the series was him taking odd jobs to repay the money he’d stolen, but not repaying the last bit and getting arrested anyway. There was some Halfworld stuff in there too, but it ended with him writing his past off as too dumb to care about.

It’s trying too hard to be “funny and irreverent.” Like a bad Deadpool comic. But apparently Rocket is canonically super desirable and shit to date. Fun.
