Second comings like that rarely happens. Usually the story goes that the guy that gets kicked become some loser who only is remember for being in that band before they became famous.

Metallica is not part of the big 4 of trash (inside the metal category, inside rock genre, inside modern music). Sure, Megadeth might be the second band of trash, but Metallica is so far away from that is not even a joke. They are closer to oasis or the rolling stones in fame. Meanwhile megadeth doesnt even scratch the top 5 of metal, let alone rock, let alone popular music.

. Metallica is well above that and everyone knows it.

          Anonymous

In metal, rock or popular music? Because Metallica is one of the biggest -music- bands, no genre attached.

Megadeth is a top 10 metal band. And frankly barely. Lets not talk about quality for a moment but Iron Maiden, BS/Ozzy, Pantera, Slipknot, Korn, Metallica, Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson are magnitude times more ingrained in popular culture. If we include hard rock with G&R, Motley Crue, Kiss, then megadeth doesnt even enter in the top 10.

Yeah, like I said I don't listen much metal outside sludge and whatever but I don't know, Iron Maiden, Pantera and Slipknot I could get behind but everything else is just too much for the general public to know, and that's both considering that Slipknot is just popular for nu-metal nostalgia, while Iron Maiden might be boomer tier and both Megadeth and Pantera have fans for both an obssesive fanbase and entry-level feel to their music, these three are the biggest IP of the genre from an outsider perspective i'd say, with maybe Megadeth or Iron Maiden being the biggest, but it defitinely is not korn or let alone rob zombie
            >If we include hard rock with G&R, Motley Crue, Kiss, then megadeth doesnt even enter in the top 10.
This you are right, I don't add hair metal cause to me that's just Van Halen hard rock but you'd be right then

I don't know man, I just hear megadeth way more often outside of music circles than any other band not including Metallica and Sabbath of course, I don't even like Tech stuff off the three I like Volume 4 and Kill Em All the most

The Beatles showed us that a band can't really have more than 2 egos. As soon as George started writing songs and fighting for his place, the band started falling apart. Dave had to be kicked out

        Anonymous

This is the correct answer. The drinking and drugs thing was a shit excuse considering they were all drunk, drug addicts for years. There were way too many clashing egos and the band would have fallen apart within a couple of years, someone had to go and it ended up being Dave.

He got kicked out because Metallica is the James+Lars show and there was no room for any other egos. It's why he was replaced by Cuck Hamit and why they hired Jason Newcuck and Donny Trecuck. All passive personalities. Dave was never going to make it the band. They would have found some other reason to kick him out if he was clean and sober.

          >what's it with the correlation between incredible talent and atrocious taste?
technical skill and artistic talent / inspiration / voice are not the same thing. There are TONS of really gifted musical artists who are technically unimpressive in terms of playing their instrument or vocalizing but nonetheless have a "voice" and a gift for melody and composition. A lot like writing generally, these things just can't be taught.

Load and reload are great alt rock albums. You are just a dumb metalhead. Which I dont blame you since the band is literally called metallica, but the black album which is hard rock at most is better than their trash era, past and present trash era.

You don't have to pretend, if you think so then that's completely fine and completely valid.
My personal pick is Risk, and THAT'S an opinion that I keep to myself publicly and even hesitate posting that here. It gets way too much shit on just, trashed simply because it's not trash and "the sellout album", but it's a freaking good album (just not a good "Megadeth™ album).
The songs are varied and all solid on their own and as a whole it all works together nicely. The cover is simple yet poignantly fitting to the name/concept of the album and it's the album that is hated the most, naturally making it the best in the ears of a true contrarian rebel.

          >Risk could have been a good Marilyn Manson album
Risk was embarrassing. Worse than Youthanasia. He literally called it "Risk" because Lars trolled him about never taking "risks" so he went and made a bad album that sounds like a late 90's cliche complete with electronic drum track to prove him wrong, I guess.

            Anonymous

Insomnia is not the best of Risk but it's a fine song. I have no idea about Lars "trolling" (my image of that is that Dave might have gotten influenced by him to make the album but that it wasn't through malice that Lars did that but because of pragmatic business advice and Dave recognizing it and accepting the challenge).

You're free to say it's a bad album and I understand your sentiment, but objectively it's still a good album. Not saying it's great and know that objectively there are better Megadeth albums, but after all these years, after having listened to all of the albums 5-10+ times, Risk remains my personal #1

              Anonymous

Risk was done to makr Marty happy, but it wasnt what he wanted thats why he left the band. I like Risk well enough too, but it does have Ecstasy on it, and that is the single worst song ever made by any band ever.

Only two good songs on that entire album and they're buried in the back. Great art doesn't come from "having fun". Anytime you hear creative homosexuals talk like that it means they're coping for being out of inspiration. The best albums were made by people destroying themselves and hating each other. Also, the remasters somehow make those shitty albums even worse. Great job, Dave

    Metallica literally solved metal

A gigachad like lars understood the problem, drew it to a logical conclusion by fully accepting that anything technically past AJFA in musical complexity was boring and worthless to crowds

People got over autistic time signatures, aimless solos and 10 minute song lengths, thus nirvana rose to popularity as a reaction.

Billy hints at this on his JRE spot but Rogan doesn't pick up on it lol, Billy basically begged him to ask a follow up question even one as simple as "wait what?" or "what do you mean?" but instead Joe rambles about the industry some more. Billy is a complicated dude (from what I've seen, SP was at their peak when I was like 5 years old so it's not like I know much about him other than what I read and watch) but it's wild what kind of music he wrote as a teen. I admire him and Trey Anastasio a lot because of how much they carried their acts

Kill em all was a youthful and fun album, but it very much sounds like what it is: a debut album written by some pimply and easily impressionable 19 year olds. On that note: I'm still shocked how much of an improvement Ride the Lightning is as a follow up album, like a band that grew up 10 years overnight!

There's first albums and then there are first ALBUMS. Kill 'em All was more the former. Their first real album was Ride the Lighting. Any band with strong pretenses towards conceptual writing and definitely prog tendencies is going to really not come into their own until their second studio album. That's why some bands have these big jumps on the sophomore release while other bands slump.

No. Powerslave, Somewhere in Time, Wasted Years, The Trooper and way way more... Maiden beats Priest.

If you dick around with guitars at all Maiden is the most fun to actually play. Metallica is by far the easiest formula though. Learn one song and you know 20.

Dance of Death and A Matter of Life and Death are great albums. Still Maiden peaked after Seventh Son.

I can't get over the fact that all their songs sound exactly the fricking same. Talented sure, but super dull.
