Not as terrible as I thought it would be, but not exactly The Matrix either. I'd rate it similarly to Jupiter Rising.

How would you rank Jupiter Rising, Valerian, and Mortal Engines?

Valerian > Jupiter Rising > Mortal Engines, personally. Atlas ranks below Valerian.

Valerian is kind of sad because 90% of the movie's problems come down to Dane Dehaan and Cara Delevigne having zero charisma and looking more like brother and sister than love interests.

Agree they should have had an older actor like Woody Harrelson as the male lead and replace the romance angle with mentorship.

Yeah, everyone says this. They were both considered potential next big things at the time, but hard to justify the hype.

The opening scenes of Valerian are absolute kino. If Star Trek was like that, maybe I'd actually like it.

The visuals for the rest of the film are consistently some of the best to date. It should've been a massive franchise with a hard-core fanbase. Too bad they screwed up the basics.

its the same with this. Jlo is horrible but the rest of the movie is decent.

        >How would you rank Jupiter Rising, Valerian, and Mortal Engines?

As failed franchises, the universe of Valerian had the most potential. Mortal Engines is the most unique, but kinda moronic.

Jupiter Rising just wasn't anything special. I'm not sorry we didn't get any more of that. Other two could've been worth it.

All examples of wasted potential. I thought Jupiter was more fun than Engines but Engines had more potential.

Mortal Engines read well. Interesting idea. Put it on a screen and it instantly becomes the stupidest looking shit I’d seen in recent memory. Visually does not work.

Have them all on 3D-Bluray. Valerian is by far the one that gets the most rewatched.

Valerian would go nowhere. It was one of the inspirations for SW, but its release was too late in cinema and was really just a pet project.

Mortal Engines visually got it right, tone, absolutely wrong. If you ever get to read it, its one of the most depressing YA series of books ever written.

Jupiter Ascending had potential, but was the Sisters attempt at their space opera. The world building really was all that it had going for it.

tbh Jupiter would be made better just by having two different lead actors. Shit was awfully miscast.

I feel like no one knows how to write villains anymore.

Long exposition about the villain at the beginning of the movie doesn't show up until the end to gloat and job.

They go through the entire movie showing the could make multiple versions of themselves, go out of their way to tell you the villain is a next level genius that's always a step ahead of everyone, chess metaphors and imagery out the ass, what's this super genius androids' big back up plan, I'm going to fight the war mech with my arm sword. WTF?

It was alright. Its biggest flaw is it seems to be yet another movie with absolutely terrible writers. Exposition is really bad and is generally amateurish. (Also it couldn’t have been that expensive, there’s only like five actors with speaking lines in the entire movie and it’s 98% cgi)
There is an even better movie hidden in there somewhere.
