Lane was older, out of shape and didn't seem that much bigger, his win was far more impressive.

He’s probably dying of lung cancer or liver failure by that point.

IIRC Don already had high blood pressure in the first season. Add in the rest of his lifestyle and there's no way he'd be alive in the 80's.

his grandfather lost the family fortune in 1929. he would have been a billionaire and owned much onf Manhattan.

This is a pretty bizarre read considering by the end Don was forced out while Pete remained a loyal partner. Don got by on his good looks, charm, and ability to seduce the clients. Not merit so much as natural talents he got at birth. That could only take him so far though. In the end, Pete ends up more successful in both business and his personal life, because he gives up trying to be like Don.

Homosexuality was certainly known in that era but not openly discussed. She may have heard the term at some point and a vague description but it's doubtful it sank in. For those who live in the current age, it's difficult to express just how little cultural presence gays had back then.
The last we see of them in the show is when Sal calls her to say he's working late as he's headed to a gay hookup spot. Not consummating the marriage was still grounds for an annulment back then. For a woman in her position, she probably would cry about it to her mother, and if her mother didn't already understand the problem, one of her female relatives she discussed it with would. Annulment is the likely outcome.

Doesn't seem like a problem. And to be fair, he still had his other kids plus Sally and the other one nobody cared about so he wasn't really alone and it's not like Don was going to raise them. He and Don cucked each other so it all evens out anyway.
