Nah, it was all on him.

What did he do wrong anyway? He just didn't want to associate with a moron anymore. He said it plain as day and despite of that he still wasn't left alone.

Because he went about it in the most childish possible way.

Curse of being a midwit among dullards. He can recognize the people around him are moronic but he's not talented or smart enough to accomplish any more than them. The actual smart people (Siobhan) get the frick out at the nearest opportunity.

This in so many words. He's realised what a wasted life he has lived abd is going through a crisis. He shifts the blame to others as he is unable to come to terms with the fact that he wasn't influential or talented, or special. I think the old snip snip was his way of permanently escaping the reality that he simply cannot become more than he is while firmly, from his point of view, placing the blame of his own actions elsewhere. "I will never write me masterpiece because he made me cut off me fingers"

        Anonymous

yep, he's peak midwit. Starts going on about music and being remembered because it impresses the morons around him then someone smarter comes along and puts him in his place. Colm's song would have probably been a load of rubbish, he was afraid nobody would like it and so he sabotaged himself in a way that he could blame others for his failure.

Clearly, and he knew he was a midwit, with the priest asking about his "despair" all that.
In the end he was just a massive c**t making life miserable for all the nice people.

He doesn't want to outright kill himself, or at the very least he doesn't want to admit to it, so the next best thing is self-harm. So he kills his longest-lasting friendship (even if it is a dull friend) and sets a ridiculous ultimatum just as an excuse to chop off his fingers. If Colm actually cared about making music and become some Irish fiddler version of Mozart, then he wouldn't have mutilated himself.

So what’s the deal with the old woman? She was beckoning Siobhan from across the water, there was a mention of someone drowning before, then the “there goes that dream” guy who interrupted her was found drowned. I assume it’s symbolic of death lurking on the mainland or something

Sometimes it boils slowly until you can't take it anymore. It doesn't happen suddenly. In the scene in which they first discuss "you liked me yesterday" it's very blatantly inferred that he didn't, he just endured it until he no longer could.

        >spends his nights with the dull as frick police officer
Nah, it was all on him.

        [...]
Because he went about it in the most childish possible way.

Even if he did, Padraic still was too stupid to get it which confirms everything Colm said about him and why he didn't want to be friends with him. He's too stupid and uninteresting to actually be friends with and instead of giving Colm time and a breather, maybe have a perspective look on himself, he kept pestering him about it.

It's important to make efforts to stay in touch with your mates when they're depressed.

Siobhán doesn't get enough criticism. She was just as much of a hypocrite as everyone else on the island. She goes about how everyone is mean but she's one of the bitterest people on the island.

It's only natural Colm wouldn't give up so easily. They've been friends for years, you can't just drop that relationship and pretend nothing ever happened in a few short days.

She's just self aware. She knows Inisherin makes everyone, including herself, mean and that she needs to get away from it. I wish Padraic had joined her.

So what? You can't force someone to be your friend. If Padraic was actually respectful of Colm, he would have kept his distance until Colm 'refreshed' and in due time he might have talked to Padraic again after clearing his mind. Instead Padraic kept pestering him non-stop 24/7 even after being told numerous times to stop. If I was in Colm's place, judging by the movie, I'd want to kill myself too. Keep in mind that they're on a tiny little island, it's not like Colm can escape to some other bar or wherever. He's stuck with an idiot and he just wants some peace of mind.

Pádraic was clearly the one that fricked up. He didn’t like being alone and never thought to diversify his friends in case something happened. He ended up alone because he clung on to only one friend.
