This movie is actually so powerful.
I had depression and anxiety so I can feel this movie in some ways.
The fight with that bad feelings and with that thoughts is like a fight with the devil in yourself. I wanted a better and happier life, but it was so hard to be happy . My father left me when I had 8 years,my mother was like opssest with herself and her love life. I hadn't much friends in high school,I was in a relationship with a not so good guy . He was usually on cocaine ,but I didn't want to try it. I had some luck, but I was drinking sometimes . I really felt better when I drink ,even this days .I have controll, but I feel unhappy when I don't take some alcohol. I have a job now,I'm a journalist volunteer, too . I dream about being a real journalist one day .
I dream about being truly free and happy. But my life is working on a caffe and volunteering for a radio with hopes . Whenever I get my money from job I am traveling somewhere. I want to see the world and I want to be free,I want to feel alive but I feel that a para of me is so dead. I live alone in a small apartment. My mom is not usually here . I feel usually lonely and that is killing me sometimes ,too .
That is probably the reason why I see this movie as special .

Too many things don't make sense. How was Elena suddenly able to leave the Institute? Did her powers develop, and if so, how did Nyle not see this coming and take precautions? What did Nyle see when he visited Arboria? Did he simply reminisce on the past and have some sort of awakening? And what was his plan for Elena? To murder her with that dagger? Why? And how did Nyle actually die? Did she use her powers to make him fall, or did he really just trip on his own like a dumbass?

Really don't know how I feel about this movie. It's thought-provoking but for all the wrong reasons. I like style over substance, but it seemed like the slow pannning and slo-mo was really just there to fill up the runtime. The murders at the end seemed tacked on, to remind us of the genre we were watching.

This move reeks of "I direct music videos" approach to filmmaking where it's just a loose collections of shit that looks cool.
Sort of like Under the Skin and the works of Tarsem or Quentin Dupieux and so on

I think Panos however embraces the shlocky side a bit more and likes to play around with special effects as the point of his movies rather than a means to an end.

The musical equivalent of it is ... idk Gazelle Twin.

Its been a while since I've seen the film, but I'm pretty sure a few of the things you mentioned had causes that were alluded to.

Like Elena's powers developing. Wasn't the computer system that kept her powers at bay shut off? And they showed some of what Nyle saw - from what I gathered, it was just a hellishly bad trip.

Its really a good movie, but you need to have nothing else better to do, and be willing to give it a real shot... you will be tempted to watch something else or give up early on it cause its really slow.. but try and let the music and sets draw you in to a trance like state.. it picks up pace halfway through somewhat..

Ultimately there is a number of really good scenes that just wont have the same impact unless you watch it from the beginning, that are really haunted and disorientating... honestly making you feel like your in a bad acid trip or something.. for some people parts of this movie will speak to you in a certain way that your not sure why. I think its like nostalgia or remembering really old bizarre dreams just like this movie.

Thankfully this trailer doesn't give away to much, the thins to concentrate on in this trailer is the music, the girls facial expressions says alot about her character in the movie... the movie is way more bizare, weird, crazy, disorientating then the trailer shows.

If you are an average person who likes average movies, don't watch this movie it will be a waste of time. its ok.

WARNING: This movie will HAUNT you forever. I didn't like it, and yet, haven't forgotten it. It's been 4 years now!
I remember watching this movie just because a reviewer I like praised it. A few minutes into the film, I loved the trippy visuals and analog synthesizer score, but then it got cumbersome and began to feel stingy to my mind. By the end of it, I was so damn depressed and regretted watching it. I don't know how the filmmaker achieved it, but he has successfully made a movie that'd depress the viewers and haunt them for a lifetime.

I enjoyed the movie as a moody, creepy sci fi piece, reminds me more of THx1138 than Erasorhead, that early 70's obligatory dirge ethos mixed with some 1980's aesthetics. Wish they had put a little more effort into the ending, not quite sure what they were hoping to accomplish by that parody of an ending which sort of wrecked an already trite chase scene. Maybe that was the point, this movie has devolved into a case scene, let's parody it. Could have done a lot more, hence the ratings, I believe. Much more potential lying there, liked it quite well until the ending.

In the past two months, I've now seen this three times and it just might be my favorite film of all time. Reviews everywhere on this one from when it came out (2010) are mixed, and as of late it seems that it's starting to become a cult classic. It's not hard to see why.

The way this film moves along is dreamlike. It very much likes to take its time and create an atmosphere; dialogue and characters are secondary here. The script, while good, is very simple and sticks to being more ambiguous so that we can have more quiet time to focus on the surreality of the visuals. Scenes like the 1966 sequence, Elena's escape, Barry's transformation, or even just the slow quiet 'wooOOAAaawm' of the Prism keeping Eena subdued throughout the movie kept me so enticed. You could absolutely label this as a movie where nothing happens, but for me it's so surreal and weird that I can't look away. It's enchanting. The crisp sound design and wonderful score from Sinoia Caves is masterful as well and I'll definitely have to look into a vinyl.

If you've seen Black Rainbow, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it - positive or negative. Discussion is good no matter what. I'd also be happy to go more in-depth if you need more convincing that it's good. This is the same guy who directed Mandy (Panos Cosmatos) so if you enjoyed that, I highly recommend this one.

I don't know... That's kinda what I love. Barry - or whatever it is inside of him - is really weak in his final moments. He's like spoiled baby... Free of his "father" and Rosemary, his true self demands what belongs to him. Blinded by the freedom, without the supressor, he never stands a chance against Elena's powers, it was only fitting how effortlessly she disposes of him...

This is a movie for adventurous viewers, lovers of outside-the-box cinema who are bored with all the same old stuff at the box office. This movie is like 2001 in that it is meant to be felt and experienced, not entirely understood. It maintains a margin of the undefined which adds to its mystery and power. This film, with its hypnotic visuals and entrancing atmosphere, absolutely blew me away.

Fun Fact time the director of this film is related to the director of Tombstone starring Kurt Russel and Val Kilmer. I think he's that directors grandson but he financed a large part of this film via DVD residuals he received from sales of Tombstone. Mandy was alright I think he's a fine director.

Mostly in the 80s there was a period of "what did I just watch" really messed-up but intelligent movies. Anything by David Lynch is a good start: Lost Highway, Eraserhead, Blue Velvet... then there's Jacob's Ladder, and The Cube. These are only ones that I've seen, but look up "mind-fuck movies" and you'll find more.

Although it may be set in 83, this has more of the qualities of a 70's production. The seemingly low budget look gives it that THX 1138 feel and look. The Kubrick influence is obvious but I'm surprised no one thought of or mentioned Aronofsky as well? It's refreshing to see someone still making ART. Hopefully the rest of the movie is as good as this teaser.

It's no surprise, really, because BtBR is made JUST LIKE an authentic lost sci-fi cult film from the 70s that happens to take place "in the near future", i.e. in 1983.

You already posted this one, tranny.

                Here.

This movie sucked, way too slow my taste.

This movie was certainly a mixed bag. Usually I am a staunch defender of the whole "style over substance" thing, but this film really dropped the ball when it came to a few story elements. However, as should be known, the style of the film is impeccable, and while it doesn't redeem all of the film's flaws, this is certainly more interesting than most of the shite that Hollywood puts out these days. Would watch again.

    Hey guys,

I have very distinct memories of playing Angry Birds on my dad's iPad...back in the late 80s when I was a kid (I am 31 now). My brother, who is 4 years younger, also vaguely recalls this.

My dad would always take off for weeks at a time to "Europe" and now I'm thinking he was part of something bigger.

He always seemed to know when something was going to happen.

Also, he would always bring us back candies and stuff...a lot of brands I knew about, but with completely different packaging (maybe future packaging).

My dad is still traveling and is away right now. I intend to ask him about it when he gets back.

Ok, so I was watching the Oats Studio's "Adam" the other day, for the hundredth time. When they showed "The Prophet" character, I felt as I always do every time I see him... that I knew him from somwhere.

Today, I stumbled onto this movie and knew right away that the actor here was one and the same. IMDB confirms that fact.

He's done a lot of television. I don't watch television (not a snob, just can't afford cable or subscription services and I've learned to live without). None of the films he has been in are anything I've seen.

But I know that when I see him here or hear him in Adam, I feel like he's been the main character in something I am very familiar with. Can't place it though.

Either way, I love his manner of speaking.

Saw it last night. A fascinating and unsettling film. I noticed a couple of things that were reused from this in Mandy (skull crush and hallucinated car passenger) so maybe Cosmatos has obsessions...Or this was a rehearsal for the next film. Either way, I'm really starting to enjoy this director's work.

Your perspective, while existential, might be overly pessimistic. Consider that 'life' and 'live' share a greater similarity, suggesting a positive connotation. As for the "Rule of three" statement, it's cryptic - is it implying cyclical patterns in life or something else?

Barry Nyle's issues can be traced to his profound transformation after a psychedelic experiment in 1966. His subsequent identity crisis and inability to grapple with his evolved, transcendent state led to his erratic behavior and obsessive control over Elena. It's a study of what can go wrong when human consciousness is pushed beyond its natural boundaries.

This scene for some reason really stuck with me and formulated my opinion on the whole film. To me it seems infinitely creepy that the path to mind-altering madness - or maybe the path to a different and horrible truth of reality - could be just beyond the corner of our psyche and reached with cold medical precision. And that someone would be so arrogant as to try it

This experimental dystopian film is disturbing and dark, with plenty of tense moments as the story unfolds. The film explores a unique and intriguing concept, and I found myself drawn in by the creepy atmosphere and suspenseful sequences. Beyond the Black Rainbow is a unique experience that explores a fascinating and thought provoking concept, and I was thoroughly entertained by the film. Overall, Beyond the Black Rainbow is a must-see film for fans of dystopian sci-fi, with plenty of creepy moments and a unique concept.
