100% stealth to all beings except undead, undead beings within attack range will be aggro'd on the wearer, a passive effect was a slow corruption to whoever possesses it and a weaker effect to their party members

i'm pretty sure that the way its implied to work is that it gives its wearer an immense power thats in line with that wearer's desires. it basically represents power.

so the reason why the hobbits were the perfect people to destroy it was it takes the longest for them to be tainted by it. in the beginning of the book it establishes that the hobbits wind up getting killed all the time by like giant birds and spiders and other wild animals, and hobbits are naturally reclusive. so a hobbits greatest desire is pretty much to be safe, so thats why the ring turns frodo invisible because frodo just wants to be safe and not get hurt. and because of this, it takes the longest for the ring to corrupt hobbits like frodo because its hard to take advantage of and corrupt a desire to be safe compared to say a desire to rule middle earth. so its literally because of the hobbits weaknesses that they are strong against the corrupting influence of the ring.

Why was it fricking up Frodo over just a few weeks, yet made Bilbo healthier, stronger and younger?

Frodo had it for almost 20 years before he went to Rivendell.
Sauron's power was lesser while Bilbo had it compared to when Frodo had it.
Frodo was wearing it around his neck constantly.
Frodo was bringing it closer to Sauron.

Frodo was also actively resisting the Ring, importantly. It took a lot of will.

that's just a fanfic people came up with because the ring seemed totally worthless in power. It turns people invisible as a mere sideeffect because your body gets sent to the spirit realm by wearing it (all the lesser rings also do this, that's why the Nazgul are said to be invisible too under their armor and why the Nazgul immediately see them in the shadow realm)

Irl the ring doesn't actually do anything. Sauron the greediest guy on earth wore it into battle then got beat up, thrashed and dismembered by either a regular elf or a regular human dude. It just makes you greedy for it.

It was a metaphor for temptation. During WWI, Tolkien would opportunistically steal rings from dead soldiers. He wrote LOTR as penance for his misdeeds.

"He was cunning enough, however, to conceal his feelings and to make no direct answer, but he only asked the maiden, as if carelessly, what was remarkable about the ring?

She answered, ‘No mortal is able entirely to understand the power of this ring, because no one thoroughly understands the secret signs engraved upon it. But even with my half-knowledge I can work great wonders. If I put the ring upon the little finger of my left hand, then I can fly like a bird through the air wherever I wish to go. If I put it on the third finger of my left hand I am invisible, and I can see everything that passes around me, though no one can see me. If I put the ring upon the middle finger of my left hand, then neither fire nor water nor any sharp weapon can hurt me. If I put it on the forefinger of my left hand, then I can with its help produce whatever I wish. I can in a single moment build houses or anything I desire. Finally, as long as I wear the ring on the thumb of my left hand, that hand is so strong that it can break down rocks and walls. Besides these, the ring has other secret signs which, as I said, no one can understand. No doubt it contains secrets of great importance."

The purpose of the ring, as implied by the title of the book, is that it lets you control the other rings of power and the people who wear them. In the third age that was the elves and Gandalf. It was how Sauron created the ringwraiths for example. Due to it being imbued with Sauron's essence it also amplified the wearer's powers and skills and made it easier to dominate other wills. And for mortals it turned them invisible to other mortals.

It just gave you a shitload of willpower. Power over others, maybe power over matter as well, but magic in lotr is subtle and not that flashy so I'm guessing the ring would just allow you to convince people to do your will.

Sauron was a smith spirit of Aulé before he fell to Melkor's influence so maybe the ring gives you some creative powers too. One thing that isn't know is what the ring would indeed do to a powerful person. I think it would just overpower them the same as the human rings did to their owners. Somehow I doubt Galadriel could have really dominated the ring, maybe Gandalf since he is of the same spirit class as Sauron, though much weaker.
