I liked the movie but i feel it ultimately went nowhere.

It would work if the movie was about that but its not.

It's what the woman makes a living out of. It's representative of her hollowness and superficiality. Even the art she organizes is empty.

Did you not watch the movie? A big theme was Amy Adams' character rejected Jake Gylenhall because he was just a writer and his work wasn't important enough. Meanwhile she's making shit like BBW women dancing as art. When Jake finally gets revenge the opening just makes it all the more satisfying.

This. His novel is his first big break, he's made it as a best seller. Meanwhile her career is lacking in artistic integrity, whereas his work both sells and has intrinsic personal meaning.

I'm still not sure if all the action and revenge with jakes character and the cop on the rapists was actually real or just some fantasy in the book
    did I get filtered

i guess so, it's pretty explicit that all that stuff is just the book playing out. but of course the book is his metaphor for what really happened

According to Tom Ford, they are what Amy Adams is afraid to be. Ugly by society's standards, but free. So her marriage is a prison with Armie Hammer, but she'd be herself + free with Jake - who hates on her by confronting a redneck in a striped shirt and likes pink. Get it yet?

It should be mandatory to watch this movie just to show you how evil can women be, no wonder there's so many gays out there with how evil women are

Think about Amy Adams' character's relationship with her mother. She's telling her that she needs to frick Chad and marry him even if he treats her like shit because that's what high-status women should do (instead of marrying the artsy nice guy).

When i watched it for the first time i thought the fatties are priming me for a movie that shows humanity in all its glory but without shying away fro showing the ugly side as well.

SOMEONE EXPLAIN THE FRICKING PHONE CALL WITH THE DAUGHTER, IT MAKES NO SENSE. WHY IS

Because she was so affected by the scene in the book that she irrationally thought her daughter might be in danger. When I see a dog or cat get killed in a movie I get the urge to pet my own.

Why is the irl daughter the same exact person as book daughter? And didn't the woman have an abortion? The daughter appears too old to belong to the new husband as well. That phone call makes no sense

She's projecting. It's why she imagines the protagonist as her ex. It's her new husband's kid.

if you have a young redhead female in the movie she has to be paired with a nig, it’s some weird israeli movie making tradition

They were symbols of Susan's inner self, and more generally the kind of vain and immoral character of modern women Susan represented. Edward's art is his interior: effectively an illustration of how thoroughly she broke his heart. Susan's art is her interior: ugliness on display with an absurd, grotesque veneer of joy and freedom. The opening title directly labels her art as "Nocturnal Animals", which is the subject of the film.

Not sure but not really interested, the rest of the movie is fantastic but that opening is pretty irrelevant for how "shocking" it is
