What was the point of this show?

What was the point of this show? It's not funny, it's not smart, it's retarded, actors are ugly or mid, I don't get it.

Seinfeld was literally the big bang theory of the 90s.
Seinfeldfags love to pretend as if it's some highbrow comedy when it's just as bad as TBBT.

If you can't see the difference, comedy is just not for you.

If you can't see the similarities between TBBT and Seinfeld you're just another brain-dead seinfeldfag. Sad!

If you read someone saying something as dumb as this you know they are a child and didn't exist in the 90s.

I always saw Friends as the last remnant of that early 90s idealism before most TV changed to be more cynical, or at least realistic.

Compare Roseanne or Malcom in the Middle to Friends, The Nanny or Full House and it's like staring into an alternate reality.

The writing is decent, it has a comfy atmosphere and the actors made the characters really likeable. It just came together and it worked.

Did you know that Friends is a rip-off of a black sitcom called Living Single. The yts at NBC knew that stealing work from black creators would not only go unpunished but it would reap millions thanks to yt America and their unconscious bias. But ya'll aint ready for that conversation yet

      >Did you know that Friends is a rip-off of a black sitcom called Living Single.
Incorrect. It was a ripoff of a British sitcom called "Coupling"

Coupling started airing in 2000, Friends started in 1994.

i watched living single as it aired. it was not as good as friends. for starters, there was little continuity. they didnt have a ross and rachel counter-part. some of the nogs dated each other, but there was no high suspense will-they wont-they bullshit. honestly, both shows are pretty dumb but this is the kind of crap you learned to enjoy in the 1990's because there just wasnt alot on tv.

I grew up in the era when Friends was popular.
I haven't actually sat down and watched an entire episode but I've got billions of snippets.
    Here's the answer:

Tween/teen girls loved it. So boys tolerated it to get with those girls.
And the reason girls loved it is they love watching older 'more mature' men and women whom they perceive as role models, who also happened to live in their most memed desire city (NYC).
Back then NYC was seen as a place of glamour, wealth, and culture (e.g. "if you can make it in New York, you can make it anywhere").

There, I also explained almost every other inexplicable fad in the last three decades.
