Anyone who was born before 1990 is aware of War of the Worlds being a radio show disguised as a news broadcast that freaked the frick out of everyone, so everyone knows that the aliens were killed by the common cold...
But being a movie, there's absolutely NO indication of this. Not one scene where someone sneezes on an alien and it immediately short circuits and falls over dead.
Granted that might be too obvious, but I swear it literally ends with a caption saying "the common cold killed them all lol"
But am I the only person who thinks that's a fricking terrible way to end a movie? It's literally all tell and no show...

They legitimately made a movie and finished filming, realized they forgot to throw in a scene showing that the common cold is responsible for killing the aliens, so they just tacked a post-it note before the end credits.

No, even after. Thanks to cultural osmosis, WotW is better known nowadays from the radio broadcast and the ensuing panic rather than the original novel. Everyone also knows it just as "invading aliens are killed by bacteria", nothing more, nothing less.

That movie was so bad. It was watching it that I realized Spielberg had lost whatever magic he once had as a director, at least when it comes to sci-fi movies where he can rely on CGI all day without worrying about plot and characters.
