What was up with "le kooky random edgelord" NewGrounds animators like Egoraptor and Oney? It's like everyone in the mid 2000s pretended to have the same manufactured persona and made animations as if they had ADHD. You know what I mean? The whole "don't frick with me I'm crazy" schtick.

When you're eleven like their audeince that's what looks epic.
They were eleven too back then.
Industrycuck thread?
because the internet was better back then. It suck shit now, and it filled with a bunch of scared pussys that are to b***hmade to make anything good.
All your dudes touched a pussy and turned. No idea why "growing up" means hanging out with Hasan Piker and shitting on the audience they built, but it is what it is.
>and shitting on the audience they built
Well if you grow up, and your audience refuses to, it makes sense that you would want to express your annoyance with them. You don't have to like someone who likes you.
And we don't have to like them when their definition of "grow up" entirely translates to "agree with me you plebs".
>and your audience refuses to
How so? Every edgy artist left newgrounds at early 2010s and they were never the majority unless you consider anything darker than current year Simpsons edgy.
You can also blame corporations and everything being "ad friendly"
Most sites use AI based algorithms to monitor shit for them instead of janitors or mods like some niche forums
You can only shove lots of "if, else" statements and math into a robot before it bans an otherwise innocent post out of decisions based on dice rolls and coin flips
100% accurate post. The bar has also been raised a lot vs back in the day. It used to be that anyone with a cracked version of Flash and some basic art skills could put something together and land the front page with enough effort (or lack thereof), now up and comers are both working within a stricter e-zeitgeist and competing with decades of experience wherein the standards are simply a lot higher, which in turn filters out a lot of the younger spazzy types.
Kudos to the mods though, the featured section isn't a cool kids club by any means. When I say "standards" I don't mean everything is another Tarboy, I mean you don't see many "Bowja From His Cashle"s anymore
People liked Egoraptor, people don't like Arin. That's pretty much the entire gist of it.
The animation scene is more competitive, yes, but there also fewer people in it because the real secret is that Youtube controls the market and considers all forms of "entertainment" equal. Animators have to be good enough to beat out the ad quantity of Markiplier, and even then they usually won't get the same ad promotion.
I remember when "Doubpe King" came out, Youtube gave it less promo than a video titled "slapping myself for 10 hours" because the second video was posted by a daily vlogger. The slapping was of course just looped.
Cause it was a site for children and adult children
mid 2000s was full of obnoxious homosexuals fricking everywhere. pewdiepie was at the peak of his popularity for screaming barrels in a manchild voice. somehow that was the most popular youtube at the time by far. i cannot understand how, watching it now is a fricking embarassment. newgrounds animators were like that, but based and talented. their videos are stupid but i can still see the funny behind them.
At least when Pewdiepie, RJW, Finebros etc were popular, you still had fans of those animators and even animators themselves shitting on them for being corporate and lazy
Same with people hating memes and rage comics, that 9Gag was seen as the worst site
Nowadays, zoomers will get sick of memes and trends, but still attach to other basic shit or not find better alternatives
They essentially reveal how better things were years ago
Now, if only some animators didn't gave up and started Let's Play channels
>mid 2000s
>Finebros
>pewdiepie was at the peak of his popularity
I get it. You weren't alive and pretend to speak with authority. At least be less moronic about it
>mid 2000s was full of obnoxious homosexuals fricking everywhere. pewdiepie was at the peak
No he wasn't. 2005-2009 was the Smosh era. WineKone and Boh3m3 were the top vloggers.
the internet was not as widespread nor centralized as it is today
hell, you're on Cinemaphile of all places
the "evil hacker size full of nazi pedophiles"
even guys that made fun of "lolcows" were autistic themselves
>that middle image
embarrassing; dare I say ignominious
the bottom panel speaks facts but everything above it is just cringe
>It's like everyone in the mid 2000s pretended to have the same manufactured persona and made animations as if they had ADHD.
Well, that was the thing back then. Nowadays you see it as cringe, but you have to consider it in the perspective of time.
Nowadays, the "fake persona" is being wholesome and cutesy for zoomers who think the edgiest thing is Sonic dot exe on FNF and the most fricked up thing is a 3D animated clip of a bowling ball fricking a pin with a cartoony wiener
If anything, this generation is just the extreme opposite of guys who thought it was funny sending others links to Goatse and Lemon Party
that explain why Amphibia, Steven Universe and Owl House are so mainstream online even though their ratings are terrible
They aren't mainstream.
It's manufactured "popularity" online by truly evil people who are paid to push it.
Oh you gay.
>Mainstream
They're literally not. The only people who talk about them are twitter trannies. If they're so "mainstream" why do you never hear anyone outside of that group talk about them? How come they aren't referenced a bunch in other things?
>and the most fricked up thing is a 3D animated clip of a bowling ball fricking a pin with a cartoony wiener
That shit pissed me off seeing all the people go
>"oh my GOD! DO NOT LOOK AT THE BOWLING BALL GIF! IT'S LITERALLY THE WORST THING I'VE EVER SEEN I THINK I'M GONNA BE SICK"
With that description I figured it was gonna be the new goatse with some guy fitting a bowling ball in his butthole or somebody having their head caved in with one. Then when I see what had everybody losing their shit it's just a shitty gif of a bowling ball with a wiener. What a fricking joke.
Join the club. I don't hate the gif myself but dam, it's like these people haven't seen worst shit or something. Either they're minors (which brings into question WHY they have or were sent a gif of a ball with a giant wiener) or they were sheltered.
I thought the gif was hot, didn't fap to it but I love wyreframez's stuff. Dumped many a hot load to those futa bimbo piranha plants.
I think I've seen a few clips but I'm not gonna put myself trough that kinda pain.
>I think I've seen a few clips but I'm not gonna put myself trough that kinda pain.
Worry not, I'll just say that he spends SEVEN episodes in Skyloft before he even pulls the sword out.
That's because what people call nowadays "edgy" was appreciated for being anti-cultural, at the times.
Basically it was something that was the opposite of mainstream media, which was controlled and very wary of making something controversial. Also it was just a landmine for young artists to just frick around and having fun without thinking too much at how the internet would react at things.
Of course nowadays you look at that and you say that, because we're basically going in a spinning direction were making safe but not overtly colored (in all meanings) stuff is better than making anti-cultural stuff.
The irony is that the "Tumblrification" of the internet is more likely to come from former edgelords than straight up Tumblrinas like girls sending death threats over Steven Universe fanart
Guys who used to be on Cinemaphile, SA, KF, ED and Newgrounds are either regretting it or coming up with shit like "this site was leftist until 2016" like sure, pray nobody finds out what Pedobear or "an hero" are
Wonder if anyone remembers "too soon, bro"
Everyone remembers it, but nobody remembers why we say it
>Guys who used to be on Cinemaphile, SA, KF, ED and Newgrounds are either regretting it or coming up with shit like "this site was leftist until 2016" like sure, pray nobody finds out what Pedobear or "an hero" are
SA is a funny example because you had people harass autists and make videos about them, and then a few years later they went from mask-off harassment to moral-high-ground harassment. Which not only meant they were justified in pushing people to suicide, but their fans would go "uh they've changed and grown up, sweetie, sorry they were able to move on unlike you" when you called out their past behavior, and they would keep circling the wagons waiting for more years to pass and hope the heat would die down as a result
You have a problem with edgelords yet you post on Cinemaphile. That's like posting on Twitter and complaing about all the gay people.
The internet being centrilized still includes Cinemaphile as "the one edgy site" to most people, so they overlap
"Go back to X" posters still use those sites and they/thems still use Cinemaphile memes
It's what makes culture war shit even dumber because people attach sites to sides but they all mix up
Cinemaphile usnt a site
It's a weapon in the meme war.... I'm deadly serious.
Egobraptor was never good or liked. He's always been a total homosexual piece of shit who was a tool of rich scumbags to get in good with the established animation underground and destroy it.
Name a singlevpiece of egoraptor media. Just one.
Generic dead ends sandBlack person buttbuddy bought the views their trash ass had on YouTube.
Sequelitis was cool, though factually wrong in some instances. Like when he complains about a certain enemy in Ocarina of Time, then proposes the same fricking enemy that he complained about as something that would be a nice addition (but was already in the game). Also we know he fricking sucks at the game.
He's a lying homosexual piece of shit who pays games like a gamer girl.
Using it as a way to look cool.
>Also we know he fricking sucks at the game.
Man, you should see him lay Skyward Sword. Now THAT was something.
Personally I like the Twilight Princess videos just for the moment where Dan calls Arin an SJW and immediately has to change the subject before he gets pissed https://youtu.be/4N9gvhawLSk?t=540
Implying that shit wasn't contrived
Egoraptors popularity is a lie.
Egorepture used to be treated like Newgrounds royalty and everyone seems to like him. Max G is the "hated" animator on that site. I know some people will hate on Egoraptor but the general consensus is that he is well-liked, both by the general public that is aware of his existence and the animation community.
Max G was hated on only early on, because he had an argument with some top NG animators (like Arin and Chris O'Neill).
I think he made up his mind later on and while not being super-close friends they're in good vibes.
Max is based, but his silly depression is getting a little tiring after so much time. I just hope he can get over it. He knows how talented he is yet he barely makes any money for it, he needs opportunities (and maybe leaving his autism behind would help too).
No one likes Egoraptor anymore aside from troony GameGrumps fans. The kind of fans that will eventually turn on him when they find out the stuff he used to say and do.
No one liked egoraptor.
He was just well known and in good with the newsgrounds owners.
That gay went to youtube the second they offered him a paycheck through millions of zombie accounts and quasi fame
When youru e realized he was trash and his garbage animation wasn't worth a frick it was too late.
>Egorepture used to be treated like Newgrounds royalty and everyone seems to like him. Max G is the "hated" animator on that site.
Other newgrounds veterans still treat Max G as one of their own while everybody just act like Arin never existed ever since he tried to cancel Sr Pelo for making a silly joke on storytiming.
Not only did he try to cancel Pelo, he also threw his old newgrounds friends and audience under the bus. At the same time. Talk about pandering to the tumblr crowd.
I never got why he did that, yeah a few newgrounds artists were edgy when they were teenagers even though most weren't but Egoraptor was infamous for being one of the worst and he still is pretty toxic on youtube and twitter constantly insulting people and games.
>constantly insulting people and games.
Oh no. I hope he didn't hurt those poor games' feefees.
All good points, but he made Ocarina of Time gays seethe. So he's cool with me.
>the meme war
lol
lmao
Anon.
We're deep in ww3.
This isn't a boots on the ground war. This is a war of pr, memetics, and resources.
This place.
I don't want to talk about it anymore. I'll end up having an accident.
At least try to pretend you're not 12
jesus
I don't know what the frick's going on today, are medication prices going up or something? There's so many fricking schizo posts all over the board, seemingly more than usual
At this point I'm convinced the majority of users on this site are bots that were fed a bunch of posts from the archives which is why nothing they say makes any fricking sense.
R*ddit spacing. Go back.
There will inevitably be a time when trends revert themselves and shock-value culture goes back to being the cool thing to like again.
Problem is that it's going to take very long until that point.
We need all the SJWs to die off before that happens. And I'm not sure if they ever will die off. I miss the mid 2000s
SJWs are paid window breakers and shit stirrers.
Luring a bunch of hypnotized brainwashed children and naive fools of low intellect or low morality.
We are never getting the Golden era back! Hopefully we all die on Friday.
I don't know man. I feel like edginess and true freedom of expression (in principle cause I know some homosexual will pretend I am talking about laws and not the principle, so fricking annoying when they pretend to not understand the difference and then argue against a strawman that doesn't even exist) is dead. The whole advertising system is based on being as inoffensive as possible to certain groups and maintaining one group's "reality" over the others. Everyone uses the same sites and whenever another one pops up. It just gets crushed by google and the other big players. The best we could hope for is something that is super underground and done as a passion project.
Maybe if someone else makes a parallel payment system and advertisement system it could be something. But then you will just have all the app stores refuse to let, "free speech" type apps on the store because they don't censor "hate speech". All the talented people will just make stuff on mainstream sites and cater their creativity to be workable with the existing echo system. Unless you are a super edgy person who cannot exist on the mainstream, you will just adapt to the existing platform. If you want views or a career you have to play by their game. Newgrounds is still good for some newbie animators because you can build your fanbase there before moving onwards towards the big boys. Like youtube and tic talk and stuff. Youtube videos will get maybe 50 views if you have no subscribers and that's being generous but if you have no fanbase you can easily get a few hundred views on Newgrounds
We would have to create several complex systems to be independent of censorship and fight against the powers that be and they will absolutely crush any new system that tries to crop up. I don't see anything changing anytime soon. I would like to be wrong but the cards are just stacked against us. Just look at dissenter or minds or any youtube competitors they are all jokes and are actively being suppressed
You can put out an android app that doesn't need to go through the play store.
Also buying a token/unique bitcoin to trade for stuff is easy.

Significantly better to play a cartoon character on the Internet than to actually be mentally ill and de-anonymize yourself with every menstrual discharge you have on twitter.
THE INTERNET WAS FORMED BY ANTI-SOCIAL NERDS.
EVERYONE IN THE MID 2000'S WAS AN EDGY TEENAGER.
>something awful
>ytmnd
>newgrounds
>Cinemaphile
Business guys only started using the internet for stock and tech in the late 90s and never stuck around for anything else.
Once social media started breaking through in the early 2010's was around the same time that political correctness started being discussed seriously because political correctness is an ally towards advertisers and companies.
>I looked at a photo of a guy with outstretched anus and people thought i was cool!
>No one cares gramps
>REEEEEE, IM GONNA BE COOL AGAIN, YOU'LL SEE!
This fricking thread, holy shit
okay zoom zoom, the steven universe thread is next door
cherrypicking seems to be a passive-aggressive zoomoid's favorite
None of us ever thought we were cool anon.
Nobody thought it was cool to laugh at that stuff, they just thought it was funny. Genuinely where the frick has this notion that laughing at things is an attempt to be cool come from? Do younger people really feel like laughing at jokes makes them cool nowadays? You just laugh at dumb shit you guys.

Really? FLCL
why would we talk about FLCL in this thread tho?
Because its literally what inspired the "newgrounds style". They all animated and acted like FLCL characters.
Sure but we're not making an essay about newgrounds as a whole, this is clearly a camouflaged e-celeb thread.
Are you moronic?
He's a shit stirring loser homosexual and bully who played the too cool for you game while having the protection of the newsgrounds owners
People here are too young to realize how influential FLCL was on internet animation and what a ridiculously standout series it was when it first started airing in the West, that was largely still getting leftovers from the 80s and early 90s Japan. The entire early Newgrounds style would not exist with FLCL at all, some of the most influential shorts like Dad's at Work even used specific musical cues from the OST. (Yes I'm aware the music is a classical score, no shit, that specific snippet with that exact time frame was on the FLCL soundtrack)
I remember there being this short series about a boy with a robot that even used fricking Pillows music now that you mention it, I can't remember what the frick it was called but it was basically fricking fellating FLCL
FLCL is to internet animation was Azumanga Daioh was to internet memes: Early 2000s anime that had a tremendous impact on the culture at large whose influence is now largely if not entirely forgotten by the larger public. "waifu" itself originates from Azumanga Daioh and the loose ADHD action animation was so clearly inspired by Imaishi's contributions to FLCL that it hurts. But most people using the internet nowadays either never saw those series or the respective media moved so far away from the sources that at this point it's much harder to recognize the influence.
>zoomers on Cinemaphile hate anime with burning passion
>zoomers on Cinemaphile hate golden age of internet with burning passion
Checks out
Literally everything on Newgrounds back then was better than anything coming from the internet these days. That is, except for Newgrounds which is doing amazing right now and drawing all the good artists away from Twitter and Instagram and every other shit site. The whiners on here hating on it will look like morons when they miss the new Newgrounds wave again.
Newgrounds is the only place producing good art right now
Basically everyone agrees that the only thing from the mid-00s internet that aged well was HSR.
>mid 2000
Why not the entire 00s decade?
Why i won't argue hydraulic service repair is pretty great you can take your moronic zoomer opinion and have a nice day with it.
You will say this ever 15 years because you’re obsessed with trends.

That was just the youth culture at the time. Before we millennials became pussified gays, we were edgelords, influenced by the humor and culture of the generation before us: Generation X. Gen X was the generation that gave us punk, heavy metal, violent video games, and shock radio. It was the in-your-face edgy generation, and they influenced early millennial culture. Back in the Y2K period that edgy sort of humor that can be found in South Park or any 90s comedy was loved by us millenials, so of course we tried to mimic it in our online forums and spaces. Go watch any early episode of South Park and then watch any 2000s/early 2010s NG flash, you can see similar humor
>Internet was so much better back then, now everything is filled with whiny pussies
>I disagree
>REEEEEEEEEEE HOW DARE YA, ZOOMER ZOOMER ZOOMER KYS, MOMMY HELP ME, BAD PEOPLE ON THE INTERNETS SAY IM WRONG WAAAAAAH
It's getting better and better, keep it up
anon people complain about aged up anime characters being sexualized, shit is pretty bad out there.
this...
this tastes like egoraptor
Oney is still hilarious. Arin, on the other hand-
Newgrounds is still great. YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, Webtoon, Tapas, and everywhere else are all terrible
As someone that was there, had my fun and left, I can say Newgrounds is probably the last for that old internet feel. Though I do say it's not the same Newgrounds as it was in the past. It's changed up a lot, and now a lot softer. I understand people's past grievances with the site and even some now having problems with how the site change (Hence some people calling it israelitegrounds). For artist just starting, I'll recommend newgrounds just because it has a good format on it's website and is good at showing all your artwork off compared to other sites.
>For artist just starting, I'll recommend newgrounds just because it has a good format on it's website and is good at showing all your artwork off compared to other sites.
The administration also cares about the little guy, which is far more than you can say about anywhere else. Does Tom still give out tablets for Christmas?
Yah Tom still gives out tablets regulary. I don't remember anything for Christmas though, but I know he's super generous in terms of giving out a lot of tablets to people that need them.
>The administration also cares about the little guy, which is far more than you can say about anywhere else
This. Despite leaving, I can say I got more confident and grew more as an artist due to the site's support and love.
deviantart used to be great, now it's the worst of them all
As a new artist, how do you get anywhere on the site? Heck, my chances on Newgrounds and twitter were way more interactive than on deviantart.
>how do you get anywhere on the site?
You don't. Anything you post is going to be buried under tens of thousands of low effort ms paint fetish edits. It's no surprise that any featured art you see was made by somebody who's been on the site for a minimum 15 years and have already had a following from back then. If you try to start there now you'll get nowhere.
DeviantArt is all AI art now
