It gives the franchise quite a bit of an edge. Like the crazy kid murdering sicko from Five Nights at Freddy's. The devil wasn't enough.
It's undeniable that kids LOVE that and that this show flopped
So much focus on this when there are only 4 characters from the game that were like this and none of them were fan favorites. Why would a company focus the audience to be exclusively for manchildren in their 20s/30s who still watch cartoons rather than the much bigger demographic of kids just for the sake of 4 unpopular background characters from the game?

Too much like nuSpongebob where the cartooniness only comes from their wacky expressions. It should've been more like pic related where the cartooniness comes from the zany world, breaking physics to create solutions, and having an "anything is possible" approach to plots and gags.
Like, Cuphead should be drowning and he pulls out his red-and-white straw, ties it around him, and it turns into a floating pool ring. He rarely does that kind of stuff despite the games being all about it.

It had the perfect premise for the series, Cuphead and his bro need to collect the soul contracts of all the boss cast and free their own souls. Make each contract a villain of the week plot and build up to the end with the devil.
Instead they did their own thing and it was less original as a result.
