You say tgat but it wouldn't be as bad if it were in fact for Reddit and not designed by committee to pander to a, in the eyes of the producers, hitherto unexploited demographic, namely morons

It wasn't a retcon because it was never explained prior to that ENT episode about the virus. The only real reference we ever got to it before then was the DS9 episode where they go back in time to The Trouble With Tribbles and they question Worf about it and he just says "We don't talk about that"

Even if they weren't, Worf's makeup looks like a reasonable evolution of the tng makeup. It's just a more expensive version due to more budget.

The other looks like a complete different show.

TOS was made with ridiculously low budget, especially season 3.

Like all Nutrek the production values are higher but none of their decisions make any sense.

The term "rubber forehead aliens" was invented because even though they could have Muppet aliens, human faces are much better actors. Cluttering Klingon faces with all that shit on the right makes reading their expressions harder which is a detriment to the acting.

This bugged me too. Roddenberry had a policy that aliens had eyebrows and even in the rare circumstances they didn't, the Ferengi had a clear brow ridge that conveyed expression as did the much later Species 8472.

Nu-Klingons have a solid brow and it's made worse as the heavy makeup prevents expression elsewhere too. It might be unrealistic but it's important for a space opera that the actors can convey recognisable emotions in an alien species. Otherwise it's just a slab of purple on my screen pissing me off because it looks so dumb.

You know what, godspeed. Enjoy your shitty thread for as long as it lasts.

/trek/ is by far the worst thread on Cinemaphile at any given moment and jannies need to purge it. It was literally good for a summer in 2014 when we all watched Star Trek again but then the general-rot immediately seeped in.

Wish we had gotten a captain worf series tho

And I wish Worf's arc with Troi and Alexander had been respected.

I don't know if it's possible to make a trek show in the spirit of the 90's anymore with all the politics and woke crap around, and I really liked Commander Sisko. Plus original sci-fi stories to turn into episodes are hard to come by.

You mean to say that it needs mature writing to drive the episodes forward. Television doesn't have good writers anymore. As a culture we struggle to produce anything like the kind of sustained shows like Star Trek of Twilight Zone and it's why both their reboots have failed miserably. The bad politics and cringe dialogue is a symptom of something much worse.

The TNG design for Klingons is under copyright. CBS didn't want to pay the copyright holder so they had to come up with a different design.

nutrek is a franchise reboot. I don't care what they say that's what it is. the Kelvin movies made money so nutrek is kind of a mixture of the prime and kelvin timelines creatively and stylistically.
paramount doesn't just want to call nutrek a franchise reboot because somehow that lessens its validity but that's ridiculous.

call it what it is and focus on the things people seem to like, maybe win back some fans in the process

all Trek is made in the spirit of the age it was made. TOS was pure cold war, civil right and all the other shit from the 1960s. the problem with nutrek is they basically fast and loose with continuity.

STD and SNW are set pre TOS but are more advanced technologically than anything on TOS. yes TOS was made in the 1960s but ENT was pre TOS but they held with continuity fairly well. all pre nutrek shows have some minor errors but nutrek absolutely doesn't give a shit and thinks easter eggs count as continuity.

if they would just admit nutrek is a different timeline, than all the major continuity errors wouldn't mean anything. to me it's a win win for paramount. the people who don't care about continuity will watch regardless but for the fans who care about it, the blatant continuity errors almost make it unwatchable, they're beyond annoying. however they wouldn't be if they'd just say it's a franchise reboot.
