    >fictional works like the now obscure “a song of ice and fire”[1] give us the sense of moral and metaphysical disillusionment in late modern western society. We cannot be certain of the themes of the work, as only fragmentary copies survive to us today. It seems to have been similar to Tolkien’s classic “The Lord of the Rings”,[2] one of many apparent derivatives. What we have access to reflects cultural attitudes in the late stages of pre collapse Europe and America

Is the only one I think that came from George.

Bran became the new 3ER and a mindslave of the Children living through the weirwood. Valar Morghulis was their original position. But an alternative was proposed: Valar Doharis. And in the end of GoT, all of humanity was enslaved by Bloodraven's prodigy seating the iron throne.

And who is the president currently? Which party overthrew the Ukraine govt. in 2014? Which party and president gave over 500 billion to Ukraine to start a proxy war initiating World War 3? Who is the current president who has overseen a genocide in Gaza, which has embroiled the whole region in conflict? Am I crazy or did Trump not start any new wars, whilst Biden kicked everything into a bloody conflict?

It depends how you approach it. My dad is an atheist (more agnostic now but whatever) and almost died, he was in hospital for weeks. He said it like he could just slip away and drift off, and it changed his perspective on life because he really didn’t think it was so bad. I’m sure the morphine helped with that but still.

          Anonymous

Yeah true. But not everybody is like that. There are a lot of people who mope around when they get old because they fear death and that seems worse than death itself.

            Anonymous

There’s an interesting medieval work called the ars moriendi, or art of dying well, which approaches this. One main cause of suffering near death it says is not having a house in order, not knowing your descendants will be happy and well without you. Being ready to leave your legacy in the hands of those you leave behind was a central theme to a peaceful death. His newest blogpost is literally the opposite of that. He’s worried about the world he’s leaving, his legacy, and if things will be okay when he’s gone. He is quite literally the anti tolkien, who had a devoted and intelligent son there to protect his work and continue the legacy of his family.

Good post until the Tolkien bit
I worked at a hospice for awhile and in my experience the people who suffered from the most anxiety were agnostics - uncertainly and unfinished business (despite the end already arriving) causes a lot of grief
The devout and also committed atheists have less worry, they already think they know what’s coming and most fear in life is a result of uncertainty

with dawkins I think it’s more just realising how much his ideas fricked up society and trying to backpeddle. he’s calling himself culturally christian now but it’s a bit too late. he theorised that ideas have their own biological function the same way genes do and didn’t make the connection that every successful society on earth had a strong religion behind it

If he releases Winds of Winter we can at least show to the world that GOT was not a faithful adaptation of the ASOIAF series.

except it's literally not, so many things are already different in the time Dance happens it's just going to be more and more different in winds. the others are not just going to make it winterfell and die to le smole assassin woman

All the plots that are different are filler or loose ends.

Dany goes crazy, god emperor bran, Jon joins the wildlings, queen Sansa of the free north is 100% grrm.

          Only thing missing is Aegon

Jon isn't joining the wildlings because Jon isn't going to be Jon when returns. I don't even think he's going to be a POV character when he gets back.

Bran ruling all could happen and Dany losing it could also happen very well, but it will not be as it happened in the show I promise you. Well, it wouldn't be if the series would ever be finished but it won't. He's too old and we'll be lucky to see the 3/4s of Winds of Winter that he has finished.

I do hope they at least release whatever he has once he kicks the bucket. I think the parts he has should give a clue where the major threads are going.

Unless it's just 1200 pages of filler lmao

I don't think any of it could be filler even if he tried. Every single storyline that ends at Feast/Dance is literally in position for absolute chaos. The Wall, King's Landing, Meereen, Oldtown, Winterfell, Riverlands, etc.

He will never ever finish Winds. Even if he wasn't mindbroken by CNN talking points, he proved he's too content with his riches and fame to bother anymore.

he's an old man that wrote himself in a corner and the reaction to the later seasons of GoT scared him of even attempting to give you a conclusion.

    A big fat fricking nothing.
At most he'll be remembered as the guy who didn't finish his books, which themselves will be forgotten.

It's like LOST. First you think this is amazing. So many mysteries.

Then you slowly realize set up most of it without any plan or outline and are just making it up as they go. GRRM realized his mystery boxes caught up to him and stopped writing

Good to know the actions I took in my room in 2016 trolling and having fun has lead to my enemies being permanently demoralized. Every day they carry a debilitating case of trump derangement syndrome while I'm comfy and sound of mind.
