I seriously cannot imagine anything to do with the series that wouldn't involve a completely new suite of additions. A sane show that wanted to explore Steven as a character would have actually followed Steven on his roadtrip of self-discovery. But it's been 4 years, and reviving again for that would be wildly inappropriate to just follow Steven on his cross-country wanderings and invent a new cast or somehow drag the rest back from Beach City. That'd be a weird take on the '70s Hannah Barbara "In space!" sequel series.
I'm not interested in the all-male geode star empire that we just need to understand.

The only ones who were more of a "mom" figure to Steven were Garnet and Pearl and even that went away later in the series

That is never made. The entire show was a subversion of children's cartoon that became aimless and then an outlet for their creators and all characters became tiresome and ugly.
At end they were all like liberal elmo:
I'd like for there to not be one.
The series cannot focus on Steven.
There's a lot to dislike about him - God knows I do - but everyone can agree that while he played an important and sometimes positive role in the original series, the fricking gemstone has been drained of blood. He has nothing more to do. At most he can serve as a side character more akin to Greg than a main character - a source of experience and helpful advice, and OCCASIONAL flashback episodes to relevant parts of his life, which aren't really necessary considering he's had two full series that act as flashbacks to his life.
Steven Universe is unique in that literally everything Steven knows we know, and everything he doesn't, the audience doesn't. There's no moments told from someone else's perspective that Steven wouldn't know. That means that there's lots of room to show things he DIDN'T see and DIDN'T know, both before and after the series. If SU is to get revived, it must emphasize the universe, and not the Steven.
