It really feels that way, they were on top of their game at the time and still gave a shit. The Trump presidency destroyed something in them, and the Covid nonsense was the perfect excuse to avoid the movie theater altogether.

I hold Red Letter Media largely responsible for the demise of Star Wars. I think Disney actually used their content as creative advice and followed what they were saying to make a trilogy that would please them and gen X as a whole, and what we got as a result was complete shit. A lot of what they hated about the prequels were the things that made them good. Palpatine's rise to power was arguably the most interesting aspect of that trilogy, but because they insisted that the politics is absolutely a bad thing in Star Wars, there was nothing remotely that interesting in the sequels. These morons don't understand shit about cinema, and yet they remotely directed the sequel trilogy. Frick them.

George Lucas is solely responsible because he sold the franchise to them.

Purchase is a two way thing anon, the seller is not the only one responsible.

He made the decision to sell it when he had no reason to. Fat frick just wanted more money to hoard. I'm glad the sequels turned out the way they did so that he can realize how much he fricked up. I'm sure he still has plenty of sleepless nights thinking about it, knowing how much of a control freak he is.

          >the seller is not the only one responsible
Depends. Does the seller know the purchaser is a soulless corporation that will never respect the franchise it's buying, then lets them buy it anyway? Seller is responsible.

This is so true. TFA was essentially an overcorrection, imagining that the prequels never happened. That’s why it retains the OT aesthetic and basically has the same plot. It’s also why RLM and everyone liked TFA upon release. They didn’t think of the PT as Star Wars and so merely continued trends from the OT.

TFA is just inoffensive. The problem is that they misjudged JJ Abrams. It took them a while, but eventually they figured out Rise of Skywalker was going to be awful.

      >I think Disney actually used their content as creative advice and followed what they were saying to make a trilogy that would please them and gen X as a whole
I actually agree. It seemed like they did everything in their power to pretend the prequels didn't exist with TFA. And Rian Johnson openly admits he watched them. It seems like their only priority was not making the little missteps that Lucas did with the prequels, when they should have focused on outlining, setup and payoff. Or even better just working with Lucas' scripts by reigning in the autism slightly and fixing the dialogue.

Rian defended the prequels multiple times and TLJ has elements and homages of the prequels.

I like them but I have to admit the funniest thing about RLM was when a bunch of you false flag harassed William Shatner in his name. You could see it actually killed Mike.
