I get the same mundane dreams, off and on, whether I'm sober or not. Something about feeling like a failure in my attempts at a career eventually turned my dreams from interesting and wild into boring and depressing. I think my subconscious realized I was enjoying my dreams more than real life and cut me off before I ended it all.
I gave up alcohol for lent two years in a row and made it more than two weeks both times, though never the full 47 days. Both times I had some big event like a wedding or a reunion that gave me an excuse to have a drink 3 or 4 weeks in. By then I was just imagining that first sip of beer with my mouth watering, anticipating that first drink like I was getting out of prison. I was able to quit cigarettes by just stopping for a week or so and never really felt the desire to get back to smoking, but booze has a deep hold on me.

If SSRIs or mood stabilizers or whatever work for other people the way weed works for me, I suppose I can see the appeal.
I think if you were drinking as long as Bam has you could probably booze yourself to death in around a week on 100 dollars a day if you were drinking with the clear intent of suicide.
