I feel like if Kevin Conroy Batman was in the shadows in this page he tell Orca that all she's in this group with low level thugs, mooks, goombas, and shucks because they all like her: The got caught up in super crime just a little bit but they are normal enough that there is a real hope for them to stop doing dumb shit and live normal lives.

Ironically I believe this should probably be how DC writes her. She's a reluctant villain that takes jobs to survive.
And should be written borderline comedic like Deadpool.

Grace Bailey was a biologist with a heart of gold. An expert in the field of marine biology and generic research she worked at the Gotham Aquarium while devoting her time to helping the unfortunate at soup kitchens and things like that. One day on her way to a soup kitchen she was in a horrible car accident that paralyzed her from the waist down. Despite this she remained extremely uncharaistically optimistic for someone living in Gotham. She also began genetic experimentation to use orca DNA to regenerate her spinal cord.

But then the aquarium started doing poorly, because it's Gotham, and the land owner was threatening to have it closed down as it turns out in a scheme for the land owner to sell off the entire waterfront for development, low income housing included again because it's Gotham. Grace then begins doing with porpoise DNA to become the giant 'Orca' to attack the land owner. Batman intervenes solves all the problems but Grace is fatally shot in her failed attack and must give herself a very big dose of DNA to regenerate again, so much that she will never revert to her human form again (in the comic Batman says that if she reverts back she will still have the bullet wounds in her heart and die but that's kind of dumb.)

Besides that Orca has been a horribly underused character ever since with her fighting Nightwing sometimes, going to jail sometimes, appearing briefly in Gotham Monsters, marrying killer croc in Injustice(not cannon), and a .3 second cameo in Lego Batman.

Her personality is that of someone who was very intelligent and optimistic who really beat down by Gotham. Extremely jaded, probably would be an eco terrorist if she could repress her depression.

        Anonymous

Grace's personality is a little inconsistent by virtue of being a d-lister. Sometimes she's an antiheroine ecoterrorist, sometimes she's a cannibalistic monster (this sucks,) sometimes she's got a bit of that sage bruce banner hulk thing where she's content living on the fringes of society and oftentimes she's a depressive, easily-manipulated lady who just wishes she wasn't a fricking freak.

Transient writes her as someone who's got a massive ego that seemingly only exists to be brutalized at every turn which is actually pretty fun.

          Anonymous

Alternatively mutating into a whale and the consequences therein have made her massively emotionally unstable and she's just constantly flinging between these different states.

Frankly if you want to write her just scan some stuff that she was in and take what you like. The fan comic, Nightwing, King Shark, her original appearance, whatever.

Would she and Ivy get along?

            Anonymous

            Well,

She got acknowledged by Paul Dini which is how you know you made it as a Bat-villain.

Serious answer, I personally don't think so? Something about Ivy being a big-leaguer supervillainess and Orca being Orca makes it more interesting to me if there's just an almost class divide betwen them. I also like to think of Orca as being capable of being a normal person that might be just a little weirded out by Ivy's occasional casual murder and genocidal aspirations, but that's just me.

I'm not a cop, do what you think would be fun.

i see orca as a "gtfo my ocean" style of ecoterrorist. if you're considerate she'll leave you be, but if you frick around you will find out. contrast this with Ivy who thinks all humans should die and there is no middle ground or compromise.
basically orca is what DC keeps trying to make ivy into.

Recent ocean crimes off the top of my head
                >China (or it's DC analog when they want them to be bad guys) are having their navy dumping their tanks all in one spot to pollute and contaminate the waters of their neighbors. It's so bad it's made a brown patch visible from space and killing tons of sea life and continuing more.
                >4Sea is a nonprofit NGO dedicated to cleaning the ocean of trash, or so the commercials say. In truth it's a scam selling overpriced bracelets for donations. Throw in some assault and murder and using their iconic boat to transport drugs to give a pressing reason for them to be beat up by a superhero.
                >Somali pirates have gotten so daring they are just parking outside of Gotham now to raid freighters.

One of Batman's most famous villains is the warlord of a Caribbean island that just drives up to New Jersey to fist fight Batman once a month and we just got a Spider-Man game where a bunch of evil big game hunters that were just fricking around in Brazil invade New York to go kill Spider-Man for fun. Somali Pirates raiding New Jersey isn't the dumbest thing they could do.

The Caribbean is just south of the US. And on the same coast as Gotham no less. Somali is practically on the other side of the planet. How would they even get there? If they raided.. how would they make off with their captures?

Absolutely not. Ivy is a psychopathic dyke with a god complex and Orca actually likes humanity and sees herself if not human then at least a mammal who likes human men.

I would think they might team up once for something that covers both their environmental interests with Orca turning on her or vice versa when Orca realizes that Ivy gladly kills people and will always veer into genocide with whatever initial good Ivy will attempt.

That's the best kind of shit, IMO. Not a villain, not a hero, but a very flawed and kind of pathetic person that's struggling in this godawful heroes and villains system. Grace in the comics is rarely anything but sympathetic- if she's committing a crime it's because she was manipulated or didn't see an alternative, if she's in prison she was framed, etc. The fancomic has her pushed back into villainy by some very grounded bullshit that's sympathetic without making her a complete did-no-wrong sadsack, and that's cool, too

At the end she's like "I'll get my revenge, Batman!" But it's just not credible. She's not believable as a villain. She's a crippled marine biologist who tried to steal from a normal cartoon villain CEO and fricked it up in every way imaginable. Not only does the narrative paint her as a genuinely nice person pre-mutation to the point of being referred to as an angel by the homeless, but her ultimate plan to save the aquarium was to turn herself into a fricking dolphin themed vigilante. You as the reader can tell that this lady has no future as a genuine supervillain fighting Batman on a regular basis from minute one.

I found it funny that Bruce just whipped out a random aquatic bat wetsuit with an underwater scooter that probably cost millions more than the diamond Orca was stealing. You had all the social commentary on poverty and crime in Gotham, and he just puts on a scuba suit that looks great for a toy line that we never see again (funny for Larry Hama). Meanwhile, Grace was, I think, just living out in an aquarium or something and trying to raise a few hundred grand by stealing some diamond she couldn't make money from.

They might have been on the table but she has missed a few years getting caught up with the aquarium, getting crippled, becoming a mutant monster, and then going to jail. Going by the trajectory of the comic she probably would be refused because she is an ex con now or they are infact still on the table and she just has been so pessimistic that she is assuming they wouldn't hire her.

Of course the low hanging fruit would be that these biomedical labs would have used her research to make mutant rca supersoldiers for the weapons market with Intergang being their biggest funder.

Thinking too small. No turn it towards food products, turn all the livestock into orca hybrids. At the cost of more feed you've just doubled your meat output and now it's "exotic". When people start complaining about the bowel cancer from eating tainted mutant meat you just reuse the same gene modification to sell them a (temporary) cure.

Looking back, it's amusing how convoluted her origin story is, particularly with Bruce acting like an even more extreme moral crusader, lecturing everyone about "justice" even in the middle of a fight. There's a lot of absurdity going on, yet it's all presented seriously. Initially, Orca seems akin to a modern-day Robin Hood figure, but her plan just backfires, resulting in her henchmen getting killed due to her own incompetence. Whether intentional or not, Hama effectively illustrates how badly a crippled genius would fare as a supervillain with absolutely no experience in crime. Also, the real antagonist, a caricature of an evil rich b***h, embodies every evil stereotype about the wealthy; she even tries to manipulate a child into burning down an aquarium. The narrative attempts to be profound, weaving in social commentary, but it's juxtaposed with a villainous dolphin and a female Mr. Burns. And none of it is ever referenced again.

While I like this idea in principle, that rich b***h would probably actually be good at being a villain and Orca would be shoved to the side.

Oh, nothing specific or fleshed out, really. Something like someone else like that rich b***h (or anyone else) getting their hands on the serum, becoming a monster, and causing wayyy more spectacle than orca ever did. Orca reads some headline like " "The Orca" terrorizes downtown" and goes what the FRICK like she can't even keep credit for her lame villain alias

I could see the scenario that rich b***h contacts Orca and offers her a job that is literally too good to be true. Rich b***h bought into a biotech firm and gives Grace her own lab, in order to recreate the orca serum. It's of course all a ruse for rich b***h to steal it from her and gain unlimited whale power for herself. And the new serum is even more dangerous, making Orca 2.0 bigger, faster and stronger.

Did the Rich b***h is also become more animalstic and feral than Orca? cuz it could be awsome. BTW if someone would make a drawing of Rich b***h turning into monster Orca, that could be nice. Here's her pic related just in case.

maybe its a Ludmilla situation where she doesn't know the serum will make her feral and enjoying it? Because it's like supercharged, much more potent than the stuff Grace used.

Yeah it's like manbat's case. even if she returns to normal, she still remember the rampage caused by her monster form side effect, but she wouldn't care about that since she hates Grace, and would rather to lose her human mind to destroy Grace.

                This is hot.
Maybe a prehistoric orca whale that's even more monstrous

I feel like that's the kind of story where the rich b***h would later take on the moniker of something that rivals killer whales. Killer Squid would be my first thought

Or maybe the rich b***h would become a hybrid of Orca and a shark, with killer squid tentacles around her back

                or this

Agree, but the rich b***h monster form still needs to look almost identical to Orca. It just needs to be more animalstic and muscular.

Immediate thought is that she starts out as basically identical to Grace. Same height build etc. Then she starts to grow larger over time, becoming the Superior Orca, but still mostly identical. And then later when they have their standoff she grows monstrous and becomes a Boss Monster.

That could work. But that's after she back to normal for each time the side-effect has been turn off and when she drinks the serum again, she'll become more monstrous. Also, is all her three mutant forms are mindless or only her final monstrous form? I still like the idea that the rich b***h can't control her human self every time she transformed, unlike Grace who still retain her human self

Sorry for my bad english. I'm saying that her serum isn't permanently, like Orca, so the rich b***h is trying to make the serum even stronger.

                Anonymous

I see yes. Okay so maybe she starts taking it, turns into a 1:1 copy of Orca. She finds it fun, but ultimately gets thirsty for more. So she gives Grace orders to make more serum and improve it. Next time she tries, she becomes more aggressive and feral when she transforms and starts committing brazen crimes. Orca gets blamed and is scared, so rich b***h orders her to work harder or she will be given over to the cops. In private rich b***h is growing more in love with her feral self, being even more aggressive in business and personal dealings. She dreams of when she can become orca again constantly. Eventually she becomes orca 2.0, taller, more muscular, and goes on a rampant crime spree. She's just reveling in it at this point. Here Grace figures out what's happening and confronts rich b***h during her next rampage. Rich b***h says she is now the ultimate predator and sips the experimental serum, which turns her into her final form, making her permanently feral and brutal, and she loves it, bullying orca relentlessly.

It may be a crib on Iron Man, but you could start the story with Orca leaving Arkham as her lawyer argues his client stole a bunch of lab equipment to perform self-treatment for brain-crushing skull growth, a side-effect that explains her 'erratic' behavior. Crowd calls this bullshit, but then it happens to rich b***h in the big conclusion.

Makes Rich b***h a bit too sympathetic. We have to maintain that she bad person. She is a slum lord, sweatshop owner, violent thug, and daytime wineo who dolls herself up in luxury to hide that she is rich because of direct violence and cruelty on her part. A rabid dog that had a good cost wash and a bow on top.

                >However, her cruel beast form, Akhlut hasn't truly gone, and the scarist thing is, only by mention about Orca, Grace or showing photos of her, will trigger the painful transformation of which rich b***h will not able to control it like a werewolf, turning her into the ultimate predator monster self, Akhlut [...](a mix with forms 01 & 02) and goes on a rampant crime spree.

if you think that's could work. In pic related for example, you can see that Rich-b***h has massive ego, which she wil say so much shit right at your face, proudly mocking on Orca of how much she's a pathetic, beast. In our idea, Rich-b***h is now gets to taste on her own medicine, when she uncontrollable transformed painful into her feral monster form, but much more evil and deadly than Grace.

I like the idea, I think it still needs some work.
I don't think she should be triggered by a photograph or someone mentioning it. it should be a little harder than that. Like a key ingredient or a dna sample when come into contact. or it could be an environmental factor
Also the name Akhlut. it fits the description of Camille's monster form but I'm just having a hard time connecting it to Camille. It can work but it needs some developing.

                Anonymous

Sure thing. When I thinks what kind of a trigger should force Camille to transform into Akhlut, it may be full moon or she needs to take some kind of temporary pills every week to make sure the side-effect won't active. This pills of course, can only been found by someone who makes them and he also knows Camille very well (he also the only one who knows that Akhlut is Camille) and forcing her to pay him extra for each pill-box or ordering her to bring him something important from Grace's lab in exchange for the pills. I came with this idea based on the werewolf episode from BTAS. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fFfqq7F-sg

Early 2000s Bruce was a hot fricking mess. He just survived like a half dozen mini doomsday events and basically spent the next 10 years as a borderline scitzo who had someone fricking with his head every other week.

I'd argue this summary really needed to say more about how she specifically tried to give money back the the communities getting fricked over by rich fricks, while stealing from said rich fricks. Really Orca's schtick should be that she wants to do something about the evil businessmen of the DCU, but her powerset (and formidable scientific expertise) are just not geared toward anything subtle that could hurt the rich 1% dudes. She's strong, she's smart, but she does not have the right powers or skillset to take on shitty CEOs so it keeps ending in a mess.

Burns. And none of it is ever referenced again.

        >resulting in her henchmen getting killed due to her own incompetence.
Her incompetence to an extent, but a good amount of it was their incompetence too. This was a group of people that wanted to play at being Robin Hood and his Merry Men. It started to turn to shit the moment they ran into a proper "I'm in this for myself" Gotham criminal who went straight to betrayal for money.

DC and marvel artists seem to share the same lack of ability to draw animal characters. You should see some of the truly awful rocket raccoon designs because the artist refused to use a raccoon ref image or went out of their way to not make him look like a raccoon. Or more in DC's case how you can count the number of designs of cheetah on one hand that actually give her the species iconic tear markings.

D C writes Orca either as a sad sack that misses being human or a sad sack that is attacking members of the bat family because someone told her to.

I’m going to be honest about it. Humans turning into monsters and becoming isolated sad sacks over it is one of my favorite types of story arcs. It’s so satisfying watching them overcome that and becoming a force for good for their loved ones. Which is why I’m saying it’s a damn shame Grace is tied to the Batman continuities instead of being her own thing. she’s barely allowed to be chunny

the problem with being introduced as an episodic big two comic book villain is that it will forever be your status quo unless you seriously explode in popularity like Venom or if you're unpopular enough that nobody cares that the writer is changing the character
anyone interested in actually exploring or developing a character like that as a protagonist would probably be better off filing the serial numbers off and doing their own thing

And I appreciate that the fan comic is doing something cool with Killer Orca. That’s just how I feel about the freshly isolated sad monster story in general.

It's both a blessing and a curse. Being a Batman character prevents you from having your own growth and stories unless you reach Harley level popularity, but it also keeps you from being forgotten entirely. Who knows, maybe someday Grace will have her own "Heart of Ice" and start getting wider use or appreciation. At least she's been getting more regular appearances in the last few years, and Transient's comic has been a fun ride so far.

Maybe some characters are better off existing in a bubble, but I wouldn’t know what a character like Killer Orca needs because I barely understand it.

I think WaylonXGrace is fricking stupid too

monsterXmonster pairings are so cliche and boring. Orca's injustice design didn't help either.Speaking of, if Injustice 3 ever gets made, and King Shark inevitably gets in due to all of the media pushing he's been getting, I wonder if Orca could get in as a clone, kind of like how Snart was for Freeze and Vixen for Cheetah?

Maybe, but that truth is that anon was right. I kinda want her to exist in a bubble and see what she’s capable of on her own.

                >monsterXmonster pairings are so cliche and boring.
It’s not even that. Killer Croc is just such a boring non-character in a lot of his Batman iterations. Even WaylonXDahl just felt like a discount JokerXHarley.
also GodzillaXMothra is adorable because of size difference. Pairings just need to compliment each other in some way to be endearing

Maybe, but that truth is that anon was right. I kinda want her to exist in a bubble and see what she’s capable of on her own.

I know this the same Orca but I like to think that the right one with the abs, is the rich b***h first monster orca form. Reminder that the rich b***h as Monster Orca was meant to represent Grace's animalistic & feral self. A very good twist fan plot, and I'd love to see more of this fan idea in this & future Orca threads.

I 100% want to read a book about the Runoffs dealing with the larger supervillain community.

Please, she hardly attacks people for environmental reasons but did for social reasons so that would just make her a regular terrorist!

If she attacked people for whale hunting she would be attacking Chinese factory shops and since communists aren't people it would hardly count as a crime. Given the size of those things and how vicious these fishers can be it would be more like that movie The Raid, which would be cool.

Grace and her Goon Gang would be losing against bats at first, and she'd be angry at her new outfit being ruined by the scuffle after all the hard work, until her loyal goons reveal that they loved the real her all along, and didn't need any of that extra crap to be beautiful. This would give her the newfound strength and confidence and resolve to get some good hits on Batman, gaining the upper hand and letting her get surprised by Tim throwing a bolas at her legs from behind, tangling her and leading to a nasty fall off a rooftop. She loses, as usual, and quickly shakes off the injuries. This latest stint behind bars is made more bearable due to the letters she gets from her gang. They're all in prison too, but they keep friendly contact via mail.

It's just so out of order. You're supposed to be a naive scientist trying to fix something wrong and then an executive or your lab assistant or your lab manager pushes you into a vat of chemicals or cables or something and then you turn into a misunderstood monster. And, you know, become a supervillain despite having no criminal leanings prior to that.

Orca is gigantic and a monster now. Who is going to push her in a vat to take over her scientific accomplishments when she is so big? You would be telling her to stand on the catwalk over the chemical vat room for an hour while you're trying to get the forklift from the loading dock in the handicap elevator and then up to the lab. You just can't do it.

Honestly I just don't see it happen to her. She's not the type of person who gets gooned for and when she does goon she is the type of person who goons alone, solo in high intensity gooning.
Though if she has to lead (in fact she did, it's canon and she was terrible at it) she'd be like the scarecrow in his first appearance in the animated series. Kinda verbally abusive, short of patience and expecting more than they possibly could manage. Which is a lot better than most gotham crime bosses. It would have to do with her similar background as a white collar worker, probably from a high middle class family which means she'd be pretty disgusted with lesser criminals. Her ambitions would be better than the scarecrow too so there is pretty much a near zero chance of getting caught in the crossfire or getting turned on because she was bored.

That or she'll treat you like lab assistants which is a fate worse than death.

It's funny how furry porn artists are sticking closer to her original design than later comic artists, who cut off her breasts and make her look like some Venom parody.

Orca always had blubber boobies. It's cannon and DC comics has been wrong the whole time.

She was ok...but then they strted hiring worse and worse artists. Now she looks like a damn eel. This is the problem with normies in comics: they have trouble drawing characters that aren't just humans with bodypaint because they don't know anything about animals. That's why nearly all characters who are based on lions and tigers have HOUSECAT pupils when everyone knows big cats have ROUND pupils, like humans, just with iris that take up most of the visible surface of the eye. These idiots even put housecat pupils on WEREWOLVES. Those pupils are for creatures that live and hunt with their heads less than a foot from the ground (like foxes), for better horizontal scanning for prey.

Everyone looks like the are in a custom, despite being a mutant or something.

What if her "goons" are just a group of fans who started up their own volunteer cleanup group? At first they don't do anything bad and stick to cleaning up trash in the water, so Orca doesn't mind that they forced themselves to be her henchmen. But as time passes many of the members start getting a bit too overzealous with their work and result to using violence against "threats" to the ocean (beating ordinary people up for littering and the like). So Orca has to step in and discipline them before it gets too out of hand (also to protect her name).

I was also thinking something along the lines of the most radical members getting their hands on experimental serums to mutate themselves into other types of sea life. They do it because they think Orca transformed herself to help protect the ocean better and want to follow in her footsteps. But I'm not really sure where to go with this idea after that. Probably something like a few of the serums go wrong (like giving people weak, debilitating forms) plus Orca dealing with the moral implications of it all. Something something a lesson on humility I guess?
