real quick cause it's not Cinemaphile: you're supposed to learn that during teens/HS, I'm seriously curious why I took you so long to catch on to this simple premise.
I don't mean having a filter, I mean outright lying about things like a woman I met recently who claimed to make 200k a year but I looked her up (public employee) and it was literally a third of that. Why lie so brazenly?
Literally every piece of media I consumed as a kid and teen told me to just be myself so I thought everyone else was in the wrong for lying and pretending. I just didn't know you are supposed to act like Patrick Bateman.
>Growing up is realizing the masquerade is for the benefit of everyone
I mean, you're not wrong. We all know we're fricked, but no one likes a croaker or a Jonah. People need their illusions. Read or watch a play of The Iceman Cometh by Eugene O'Neill.
Society at large isn't about (You), so when meeting others (the less you know them and the more there are of them, the more this applies), you assume a common behavioral and communicative baseline.
Even the most dissident do this, like how goths tend to congregate with their own kind, dressing the same way, talking the same way, behaving the same way.
There's a lot of dysfunction even in the upper echelons of society. I knew a C-level executive at an American bank who refused to help his brother get a mortgage because of something I've seen literal children handle better. It's insane but then you think of all the moronic stuff you've done and it makes sense why everyone pretends. Since everyone else is moronic as well why not just pretend otherwise. If anything it's good for society because that way you can tell who is smarter by how well they keep up the illusion
I read metamorphosis, a few short stories and i saw a play of the trial. I liked them for his unique style and themes but i can totally see why people find him boring. You could say kafka is similar to lovecraft where the concepts they brought to the table are more valuable/interesting than their stories themselves
Me too lol.
It's like in American Psycho when Bateman randomly mentions in conversation how he's a cereal killer and nobody picks up on it because they're just waiting to talk about themselves
Just look at him lol
Kidding aside, can you imagine being a homosexual and having no idea what that means? Imagine being told all your life you should yearn and ache to be with women, marry them and grow old with them, yet all you can think about is wanting to pound your best mate's tight hairless arse. Truly a kafkaesque nightmare
It wasn't until my 20s that I realized just how much people lie to keep up with appearances. I thought most were unashamed morons like me.

Being yourself works but only if you're moronicly self-assured like Trump although that gets you into trouble eventually, like Trump.
Growing up is realizing the masquerade is for the benefit of everyone, and has nothing to do with assuaging your personal uncertainties.
You should run a cult

You seem smart, tell me more tell me more
>We all know we're fricked
... what?
>making people feel at ease means you're in a cult
To what end?

what's worse is that they hate shameless morons, because it violates their whole identity
very sad, bitter people
Big if true. I wish most people were secretly as big of a loser as me

Or you can tell who's a worthwhile person to be around because they don't bother keeping up the illusion
Kafkaism is an overplayed quality and now boring.
>dude they're just STANDING there.. not SAYING anything!
Great take anon, you sound well-versed in Kafka's work as well as possessing a lot of articulate insight into his mindset
No one ever uses 'Kafkaesque' in any way that is actually relevant to Kafka's works anymore. It's just a general term today.
The Desert of the Tartars
My Dinner with Andre
I read the Trial, such a sleep inducing story not surprised this guy wanted all his work destroyed its not really worth this much praise.
Oh and Mission Hill is the answer op

Sorry To Bother You
Zerograd- THE most kafkaesque movie not based on an original Kafka work. Welles' version of The Process is great too
If only Welles could tone down his fricking ego a notch it would have been perfect. Also that dynamite thing at the end was silly af.
The Prisoner tv show w/Patrick McGoohan
>tfw at 16 someone offhandedly said to me "most people are just waiting to talk, you actually listen"
>tfw this was news to me
I tried just listening and people get bored because I never say anything
It doesn't matter what you say as long as they're engaged. Ask them about themselves if nothing else
Me too lol.

Early life section check please.
He was definitely a homosexual right?
Just look at him lol

*being a homosexual back then
