That's really an impossible choice considering the amount of great animated movies. >Heavy Metal >Heavy Metal 2 (despite the moronic story) >Lion King >Aladdin >Akira >Afro Samurai Resurrection >Batman Mask of the Phantasm

movies like lion king and aladdin just arent great vehicles for good animation. it doesnt have striking visual like heavy metal or something and it also doesnt have badass action scenes like akira. plus everyone is goofy looking proportion wise in aladdin and just an animal in lion king so even when its good animation its hard to tell and doesnt mean much
i can only think of Black folk when i hear lion king now so i dont really care to watch it. i dont think it was so great anyway, got over hyped and sort of became famous for being famous along with sticking in people memory because of the sad sappy death
>oh god another hamlet or whatever the frick remake wooooo...
I gotta be honest I was hoping for stuff that wasn't Cinemaphile related

Same, I saw it for the first time on acid, and like most things you do on acid, it became a very special movie for me. As soon as the intro sequence kicks in, I'm hooked. Radar (radar radar) RIDER!
>greatest
No. It was very cool (and still is) but it was a collection of stories by different artists that weren’t all that into animation in the first place. Richard Corbin looks a LOT different in the comics, for example.
It basically looked like an issue of the magazine without the ads.
All that being said, I would love to see an American animation studio competing with anime in the grown up market.
It's pretty grounded because it's just people/animals/jungle but disney's Tarzan is probably the pinnacle of western 2d animation. It had a minimal amount of 3d work and it's blended seamlessly. the only way you'd ever know they used 3d is because you're aware of how much of a pain in the ass it'd be to do the tree-surfing scenes without it.
Metropolis (2001)
What makes its style so cool?
Perfect blend of 60's comic book style beautiful animated mixed with incredible color design
Hope this is bait
I hope you’re baiting anon
Good but overrated movie anon. I wouldn't place it even in my top 10 favorite animated films by style.
Norstein is the greatest animator alive. Even Miyazaki would concede that.
Maybe but that doesn't make that film have the best animation style. A lot of gorgeous frames do not form an overall animation style.
I don't value Miyazaki's opinions.
Fist of the North Star
As much as I love hnk the animations is far to low budget to ever be anything special
It's ok but it's beyond overhyped. You can tell some incredibly talented people put a lot of work into it, but something feels off to me.
Watch more movies
Probably Akira, although it's fricking nonsense.
Looks great for a pile of shit
That's a contender for sure. You're right too, the script is awful
That movie is utterly terrible, it looks awful as well.
Not a great movie - solid beginning and ending but it sags a bunch in the middle. Some amazing animation though and Sakamoto's music is great.
I'll kind of agree about the visuals even though it's full of modern anime trends that made me give up on the medium

I actually haven't seen the 2010 remake.
How is it?
Still disappointed we've never gotten more Afro Samurai
Lion King really was god tier for animation. Saw it on the big screen and it's shocking.

You might want to rewatch the Lion King opening then.

The Wings of Honneamise. Early Gainax was top fricking notch
I gotta be honest I was hoping for stuff that wasn't Cinemaphile related
Add wizards to this list.
>animation
>NO, NOT FROM SOMEWHERE ELSE
Frick off. Animation is animation.
We don't need more Japanese animation discussion on the internet. We need more discussion of high quality western animation for as little as exists.
Then make a thread about that.
end of evangelion should rate somewhere
That fricking fight scene with Unit 2 is incredible
you can really feel the weight of every movement, it's impressive
Steamboy has great style and an actually watchable story compared to half the shit in her
Agree with Fist of the North Star and Steamboy. But for me, it will always be the Secret of NIMH.
unironically
I watch this once a year at least. Great movie
Highly recommend The Spine of Night. Not quite as good but really scratches that same itch.
Same, I saw it for the first time on acid, and like most things you do on acid, it became a very special movie for me. As soon as the intro sequence kicks in, I'm hooked. Radar (radar radar) RIDER!
Varies between really good and surreally good.

Is there anything more pathetic than manchildren arguing over which cartoon has the prettier frames?
>says the f*male tabbing over from r/female dating strategy to argue on an anime website
Triggered manbaby. Your cartoons are for children.
troons

What could have been
Fantastic Planet, Rock and Rule, Secret of Nimh, all very cool, all very different.
Any of the Wallace and Gromits. Or Chicken Run.
Aardman dabbing on the world.
>What's the best looking animated film of all time?
Star Trek: Lower Decks: The Rise of Vindicta
