Id say the 1911 which just looks big and intimidating. It was widely used in Gangster movies and WWII movies. And for westerns the colt 6 shooter favored by John Wayne and Alec Baldwin.

Yeah, Dirty Harry's Smith and Wesson .44 Magnum is the correct answer. Its probably the most famous movie gun there is, it looks powerful and intimidating and it is and on top of that its a damned good gun as opposed to say the Walther PPK which is classy as can be but is also a jamamatic.

      LAPD 2019 Blaster

Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) is armed with a non-designated, unnamed blaster throughout the film. The prop was constructed from parts of a Steyr Mannlicher .222 Model SL and a Charter Arms Bulldog revolver. Side covers were added to cover the Bulldog's cylinder, and different bolt heads and screw heads were used to offer an illusion of knobs and controls. The gun was also equipped with at least 6 LED lights, though not all of them worked throughout the production. Several other characters are seen handling Deckard's gun at times, notably Rachael (Sean Young). Blade Runner Holden (Morgan Paull) is seen very briefly drawing a similar blaster at the beginning of the film. LAPD officers have black resin casts of the hero prop in their holsters, but they are just barely seen.

Deagle brand Deagle is always a good choice

Don't get a Glock. Getting a Glock is like buying a digital watch. Get a Beretta M9

Acceptable choices. But as far as movie arms go, for me it's ol' reliable.

Is the PPK a good choice? I thought about getting one, since I thought they were cool when I was a kid. I know little about handguns in general, but was considering getting into them

/k/ here. no, it is antiquated in every way. There are small and lighter weapons in a better caliber and also with way more capacity. it has no pros and only cons compared to today's modern firearms. for example look at the Glock 43. (ligher, smaller, more bullets, stronger caliber, etc.)

              Anonymous

Definitely too big for regular CC. Might get away with it for winter carry if you have a bulky jacket to cover it.

A Beretta was unironically my second choice. I was told a Glock is cheap and reliable. Im not looking to go nuts pricewise.

/k/ommando posting. All of this is ENTIRELY dependent on what purpose you're buying the pistol for. A Beretta 92 model would not be great for CC but it would be fine as a home defense gun and a fun shooter. A Walther PPK obviously isn't uber modern technology, but there's the value of having one as a collector's piece and the sheer neat factor. Glock makes 50 billion different models for different purposes so it's bad to treat it as a monolith aside from general quality. I wouldn't want to EDC a Glock 40 in 10mm but my Glock 48 is fine for that purpose.

Some more than others. A Beretta 92 is around $600 a Glock 19 or CZ 75 is around $500. If you want a budget pic the Beretta APX is around $400, its Beretta's take on a Glock style striker fired 9mm and its a very good gun.

If you want to go cheaper than $400 for a full size 9mm you're going to have to make compromises.

Yeah, I bought one recently. I paid $620 but I got a Beretta 92X which has the rail for a light and the mount for a red dot optic and it came with three 18 round magazines.

You can get them for $500 but its going to be one of the older models without the optic mounts. If that doesn't matter to you though then its a bargain.

Its more reliable in fact its one of the most reliable guns you can buy, its magazine capacity is 18 rounds of 9mm as opposed to 8 rounds of .45 ACP, its a double action/single action as opposed to a single action only with a manual safety like the M1911 which makes it a better choice for a carry gun.

PPK in .32 is not a good practical choice but is extremely cool and fun to shoot. PPK in .380 is genuinely unpleasant to shoot. If you get one make sure you get a real Walther and not one that says "Made under license by Smith & Wesson" on the side because those ones are complete shit. If you want a gun to carry every day or rely on for protection get something else, like the Glock above which is more ergonomic and has less snappy recoil thanks to not being an antiquated blowback action.

        Anonymous

Definitely not an every day thing, it would likely sit in a case unless, God forbid, something happened, or once in a while going to the range.
One of those things where its better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it, I guess.

        >PPK in .32 is not a good practical choice

.32 S&W Long was a successful police caliber for decades and decades. Teddy Roosevelt himself standardized the NYPD on it.

.32 ACP is even more powerful and with FMJ out of a 4 inch barrel it has more penetration than you even need.

.32 S&W Long, .32 ACP, and .380 ACP were all never designed for hollow point bullets. The whole "you need hollow points!" argument is fudlore promulgated by Big Ammo. All of these are perfectly capable of protecting your life with FMJ / LRN alone. A PPK in .32 ACP is the best form of the PPK.

you're missing the point that there are much more efficient options in 2022

            Anonymous

Not really. .32 S&W Long and .32 ACP are some of the lightest shooting, most accurate, easy to learn calibers out there. .380 ACP is the realm of small snappy c**t guns that no one actually likes to shoot.

You've heard the whole "You should fire 1,000 rounds a year to stay proficient." Bowl. Shit. You need to fire that many rounds if your gun is hard to shoot accurately. An airweight .357 Magnum needs that kind of training to run properly. A full size 9mm duty pistol does not. A full size 4 inch .38 Special does not.

I think .32 S&W Long and .32 ACP firearms still make a lot of sense because they're extremely easy to shoot well. You don't need to train every weekend for the rest of your life to easily hit center mass. Especially with the ammo crisis, NO ONE is going to be shooting 1,000 rounds a year just to remain proficient. It makes vastly more sense to get a gun in one of these low recoiling calibers so you can stay proficient putting a few dozen rounds down range every few months.

I think the .327 Magnum makes a lot of sense in this regard. The cheapest ammo you can find for it is .32 S&W Long. But, you can also shoot .32 H&R Magnum and .327 Federal Magnum. You kind of get the best of all worlds.

Maybe it was just the one I picked up but it had the smoothest trigger pull. Maybe top 5 of all the unmodified guns I have ever finger banged.

I never fired it though. It was brand new.

If you want a personal defense gun go for a hammer less snubnose revolver. You can fire it from your jacket no problem.

      Anonymous

      >Is the PPK a good choice?

Not really no. Its very pretty but they have a reputation for being unreliable and they're a single stack .38 ACP with a 7 round magazine that weighs more and is larger than a Sig P365 which gives you 10 rounds of 9mm in a flush fit magazine and has extended magazines out to 15 rounds.

Frankly its obsolete, its a gun you get as a collectible not as a serious carry gun or home defense gun. If you want it as a collectible then by all means get it if you like it but if you're looking for your first hand gun you can do much, much better.

Unironically one of the most accurate and reliable firearms ever designed.
Swiss testing before the introduction of the Sig P210, showed the Luger to be one of the most, if not the most accurate military sidearms, at least as far as automatic pistols went.
Even the Sig P210 didn't prove as accurate, and that was up until recently considered the most accurate automatic pistol still in production.
Testing has shown the Luger to be highly reliable, even when covered in mud.
The pistol was originally designed for a israeli owned Weapons conglomerate in Germany.
