no wonder you can't understand the movies when a comment on a website is beyond your mental grasp

let's spell it out for you, moron. does faramir say "i found the horn by my dead brother's corpse, btw it's weird how he was still in the boat after going over a waterfall now that i think about it, and it perfect position too, and not even wet, weird, but anyway, i literally found his corpse because i tend to spend my time walking along the banks of the anduin looking for things, and it was all misty and hazy like something out of a dream but it was an actual literal thing that happened, you see, and i took the horn from his body, despite the horn not appearing in this totally not-a-dream happening that i experienced in waking life, frodo, my boy"?

or did you see he had the horn and see the dream/vision of boromir's body and jump to a moronic conclusion?

again, your trouble with reading is hindering your comprehension. you're supposed to read all the words and all the sentences. if you just pick some at random, meaning will be lost.

                your quote selection:
                >despite the horn not appearing
                what the comment said
                >despite the horn not appearing in this totally not-a-dream happening that i experienced in waking life

you see how those words that come after the ones you picked provide more information that would have prevented your confusion?

                you fricking moron

let's try again. the horn doesn't appear in the vision/dream, which you seem to think is a real event in which faramir finds the horn.

Faramir doesn't say he found the body. It's an illustration of the metaphysical brotherly connection… he "knew in his heart" his brother was dead, once the split horn was discovered. You can say it was actual spiritual connection, or Faramir knowing that his brother would have never parted from his horn without dying first… whatever

first time watching: theatrical cuts, it's what the entire world saw at the kinoplex, the pacing is much better, especially rotk
second time and beyond: extended cuts, they include a ton of great material and you already know the story so the pacing isn't an issue

        depends on your tv

if you have a 70+inch tv, there's no way the dvds will provide you with a satisfactory image unless you have terrible eyesight or sit a mile away

if you're watching on a 16 inch laptop screen then the dvds are probably fine

        55 inch Sony Bravia 4k.
Might dl both the blu ray and the 4k just for the sake of it to see if i prefer them to the DVD

depending on the model Bravias tend to have good upscaling, so it's not as big an issue as that guy makes out. On newer ones I think it's called reality creation in settings so make sure that's on high.

IMO watch the theatrical versions first. The extended editions have a lot of extra content, but it really drags the movies out and some of it won't make any sense unless you've read the books. If you have read the books though, then go ahead and watch the extended editions.

The Extended cuts are objectively worse. It's fun to have more content for serious LOTR fans but they detract from the feel and cohesiveness of the theatrical trilogy, come on.

The definitive LOTR experience is the first Theatrical Edition Bluray release. The extended editions are horrible with disgusting color grade. The 4k version is not as bad as the original EE but look lifeless and grey compared to the TE bluray.
Aside from the color, the theatrical editions are the ones with Jackson's stamp of approval. He himself says it is definitive and the EE is simply a novelty for fans. The pacing of the TE is perfect, scenes like Sauromons death are cool but ultimately unnecessary and slow down the pace. Fellowship is perfect in the TE, but feels bloated in EE. Same goes for ROTK.

      Anonymous

      >He himself says it is definitive and the EE is simply a novelty for fans.

from the Two Towers dvd commentary:
          > A really fun part of this project is these extended cuts, because one extended cut can talk to another extended cut independently of the theatrical version; because you’re now seeing a scene which sets up a moment in the extended cut of the previous film, yet theatrically, you know, none of this exists! [laughs] That’s kind of like the people who just go to the movies and watch it; so it’s kind of neat: I think it’s… it’s kind of a fun way to tell such a complicated, sprawling epic, because, really, there’s no definitive ‘Lord of the Rings’.

Guess he's changed his mind since then

            Anonymous

Aside from that last line nothing he says contradicts his other statement. He says the theatricals are the ones he prefers because the pace is fine tooled to perfection where as the EE has less structure.

It's clear that they were waiting for Christopher Tolkien to die so they could pluck the IP's intestines like the cultureless vultures they are. Frick them.

The behind the scenes stuff is really cool.

      >Aragorn's horse wasn't suppose to rear up at the end of the Black Gate speech, but they filmed it anyway
      >Viggo wasn't suppose to yell like he did in TTT when they find the burn pit; he actually broke his toe when he kicked the helmet and screamed in pain
      >In one take for the scene where Sam runs after Frodo at the end of FOTR Sean got a nasty gash in his one of his feet

        >Sam rage quitting set/scene over something that happened in scene with Gollum, everyone just looking in disbelief
        >liv tyler didnt know how to ride horse /was scared so she was in an car mockup

Sean Astin is such a twat. Kinda detracts from the movie when you realize the rest of the fellowship were bros offscreen but Sam was too up his own ass.

I have never seen the extended editions and I have no desire too. Theatrical+Book chads rise up!

The extended editions just add peter jackson horseshit like aragorn beheading the mouth of sauron.

FOTR benefits the most by far from the EE. I like some of the extra scenes in TTT and ROTK, especially the Boromir flashback and Saruman's death.

Most egregious was everything that happened in the ghost army tomb. Garbage, made Gimli a fricking child.
        Fellowship- extended
Two towers - extended (mostly decent, especially the stuff with merry and pippin in fangorn, and Boromir)
RotK - I can't think of anything that the extended edition actually adds to rather than detracts from

What do I search for to find the original extended edition DVD rips without the color fricked up?
