so is it faithful to the true events or does it try to garner too much sympathy for the feds (HRT negotiator who didnt pull a trigger) it's a simple question.

            Anonymous

The feds in general and the Clinton DoJ in particular are pretty savaged. The negotiator and the one guy who they sent in early on are portrayed with sympathy.

If anything it's too kind to Koresh, who while clearly crazy isn't portrayed as the psycho abuser many say he was.

I wasn't there so I don't know but based on my own personal research this show was approximately 80% faithful

I know this is the board of zero sincere replies but I'll give it a shot. The show is decent as a docudrama. It's probably just a hair more sympathetic to David than is warranted. It doesn't really go too deep on the background, which is legit compelling and casts David in a way more sketchy light, and the timeline of events definitely means shit gets compressed and highly dramatized for entertainment value, which is high to be fair. This is an entirely fair estimate; .

Look the ultimate point of all this is that no matter what you think of Koresh, whether he was an evil chomosexual or a based and gunpilled man of god, there was zero reason, frickin' none, for the compound to burn to the ground. It was not a metaphysical impossibility to haul the guy in for some honestly light felony charges and avoid all this shit. There were multiple offramps for this outcome, all of which were ignored by the Feds. At each chance to lead to the good end, the Feds chose the objectively worst possible option.

One of the survivors who contributed to the show did a really compelling lecture circuit. Look it up on the CSPAN archives or something.

I lose my shit every time I think about Roden challenging Koresh to a contest to raise the dead to decide who should lead the Branch, and Koresh just calling the cops on him for desecration of a corpse.

Disgaree. This was a war crime on American soil against a random religious order for no reason other than to prevent the ATF from being defunded.

The series is based on two books, one by one of the hostage negotiators, one by one the branch davidians. It's an incredibly neutral take.

Based on any book and article I've read about the subject and the audio of the phonecalls, the federal agents were worse than depicted in the series, behavior that wouldn't be believable if shown in fiction.

David Thibodeau book A Place Called Waco/ Waco: A Survivor's Story (it exists under various titles) is what the show is based on and it's a solid account from a BD survivor. Sinister Twilight a Tragedy Near Waco is a good summary if you can find it.

either the atf lit the fire, killing the children, or they failed to stop the nutjobs lighting the fire after creating and escalating the situation, so it's their fault either way

they could have just gotten a normal arrest warrent, arrested the leaders when they were out on the street (the leader was in a band and regularly played in a local bar) and calmly searched the place. instead they set up stakeouts, sent in an undercover agent, then launched a seige against a group of well armed fanatics in a compound filled with women and children. this was the atf's fault.

This except the Feds were the violent armed criminals. The only mistake the branch davidians made was agreeing to a cease fire to let the ATF retread. If they had finished them off then they would have been in a better position to negotiate.

the atf started the violence anon, they rolled up to private property with tanks and helicopters, the leader was unarmed and had his hands above his head and was shot twice. they should have acted like police officers and not wannabe action heroes.

              >they could have just gotten a normal arrest warrent
Not really. They had no grounds for one.

they managed to convince a judge they needed a freakin military raid on private property, they could have easily gotten a warrant to arrest them for child endangerment if they tried. but they didn't want to do that, they wanted to shoot people.

i don't support the pedo cult, but kids died and it was the atf's fault. it was a complete failure from start to finish, and could have easily been resolved with no loss of life. they didn't even try.

Except there was no mention of child abuse (or any other alegation) until the cover story was put out via the media. It would have been easier for the feds to conduct the raid if they had come up with that story sooner. They didn't, it's fake.

They sprayed flammible CS spray at the compound for 12 straight hours then sent in a tank with a torch rig while joking on coms about burning the place down. This was all caught on film. Nice google search tho.

              >Medical examiners in California say they have positively identified the body of former Los Angeles police officer Christopher Dorner, the man authorities say killed four people over the past two weeks in a campaign of terror against the LAPD. Dorner’s body was found in the burned-out ruins of a California mountain cabin ending the most extensive manhunt in California’s history. Questions are being raised over whether police intentionally set his hideout on fire after police officials confirmed the use of incendiary tear gas. An audio recording from a police scanner appears to show officials from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department planning to deploy “burners.” In another recording that was aired live on the television station KCAL, a police officer can be heard in the background shouting, “We’re going to burn him out,” and “Burn it down!” We are joined by former Seattle Police Chief Norm Stamper, who says, “Whether it was intentional or not, a very predictable outcome of deploying seven burners in what appears to have been a wooden cabin would predictably leave it in rubble.”

No only is it flammable, they sprayed it for so long it saturated the gas masks the BDs had. Children had already died from asphyxiation. The fires were a coverup by the feds, as was bleaching the ground to destroy evidence and what they did to the recovered bodies.

they also knew that the kids couldn't wear gas masks because they don't make gas masks that small. they knew spraying the gas would probably kill them.

What is your evidence that they didn't start the fire, then? Because there's a lot more evidence that they started it rather than the feds.
              >Allegations that the government started the fire were based largely on an FBI agent's having fired three "pyrotechnic" tear gas rounds, which are delivered with a charge that burns. The Special Counsel concluded that the rounds did not start or contribute to the spread of the fire, based on the finding that the FBI fired the rounds nearly four hours before the fire started, at a concrete construction pit partially filled with water, 75 feet (23 m) away and downwind from the main living quarters of the complex.

why did the atf and fbi lose the front door that would have proven that they didnt fire into the burning building while people were trying to escape?

its not really fair when you kill everyone who could challenge your accounts and accidentally lose all evidence that could paint a bad picture for you

cops, not even american cops, have a world wide reputation of flying off the handle and turning into vengeful assassins when one of their own gets shot or killed. normally people give them a pass because it happens during lawful duties. the ruby ridge and waco situation is such a big deal because the government could never convince anyone what they should have been there in the first place and the atf changed its story for its involvment at waco several times, ending up on what seem to be a lie since they posed in front of the dead children they claimed to care so much about and dont seem to care that their operation to save them from harm killed all of them. the atf and fbi should be the MOST critical about all of this but instead they admit to zero(0) wrong doing and paint themselves heroes despite the entire thing being a total disaster even by their own standards and admitted reason for getting involved

everyone knows you killed innocent people at ruby ridge and children at waco and gloated about it and gave yourself awards.

                >They expressed anger at the federal government's handling of the 1992 Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) standoff with Randy Weaver at Ruby Ridge, as well as the Waco siege, a 1993 51-day standoff between the FBI and Branch Davidian members that began with a botched Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) attempt to execute a search warrant. There was a firefight and ultimately a siege of the compound, resulting in the burning and shooting deaths of David Koresh and 75 others.[26] In March 1993, McVeigh visited the Waco site during the standoff, and again after the siege ended.[27] He later decided to bomb a federal building as a response to the raids and to protest what he believed to be US government efforts to restrict rights of private citizens, in particular those under the Second Amendment.[16][28][29][30][31][excessive citations] McVeigh believed that federal agents were acting like soldiers, thus making an attack on a federal building an attack on their command centers.[32]

So let me get this straight, if the fire was started by the Davidians, could it be said that the fire was a direct result of being under siege by the ATF and the FBI for days? Also, its fine to kill a few of the children you were trying to rescue as long as you don't kill most of them. Got it.
