What's the weirdest website about movies you've ever found?

What's the weirdest website about movies you've ever found? I just found cinema.com and it's like I'm in the 90's. There's even a section with trailers you can download in Realtime Video Player. Who's the guy who's still running it? Some psychopath?

There are lots of these. Coolasscinema blog is a good one but for something more like your example I recently found this the other day http://www.dvdbeaver.com/50s_60s_sci-fi_on_blu-ray.htm

      >dvdbeaver
I know about them. But that's not really an example.
I see dvdbeaver as a specific niche site with its own purpose.

It's the same situation with most cinephile blogs.

As for cinema.com, it's like a regular site about movies, there were plenty of such sites in the 90s. But for some unknown reason, it continues to exist nowadays and get updates It's even a little sad. But I had a good time climbing around in there.

Check out coolasscinema he still updates but plugs along with his niches. He has pretty much everything on there though, just for the past couple years it seems he is intent on plugging through bugshit. I enjoyed his mondo and tokusatsu stuff.

beautiful. i hate websites that change their UI every few years.

It's trite and cliche, but I do miss independent webpage designs. I feel like the bleak flat black-and-white stuff almost seems like the collective anxiety of the post-9/11 and then post-2006 financial crash, such as cars being shades of grey and people's clothing being shades of grey. Maybe I'm just imagining things, though.

Nah minimalist aesthetic is more Apple's fault in the very late 2000s-early 2010s. I agree though, I fricking hate it too

I was curious about how old cinema.com is and the oldest archive on Wayback machine is from May 1, 2000 and the website design's barely changed since 2001. I agree OP, it's adorable

The fact that the owner didn't sell the domain for good money is respectable. But I'm pretty sure it's some kind of autistic person.

A lot of classic Web 1.0 sites that were still up for some inexplicable reason disappeared over the pandemic I've found. It's a shame but thank god for Internet Archive/Wayback Machine.

Quit trying to find something WRONG with people who are still at this. It's not sad and weird that these sites are still going, it's sad and weird that people would rather gather at reddit to discuss everything.

80s Movie Rewind is another one to check out.

      The domain was registered in
1994-04-12, so I'm pretty sure the site is older than 2001.

Oh sure. But the earliest archive on Wayback (May 2000) says the site is still under construction. Although I checked a bit more and the site was completed and has virtually the same design as it does today since at least October 2000. I'd just guess cinema.com was one of the first urls anyone bought up when the internet was brand new

Sites would keep an Under Construction banner up for literal years.

One time I found a website that catalogues underaged nudity in films. It had a list of like thousands of films and included the names of the actors/actresses and timestamps for the nude scenes and everything. Weird shit.

There's a website that catalogs bathtub scenes. Not underage bathtub scenes, or even nude bathtub scenes, but bathtub scenes period. All of them.
Anyway, I miss back when the internet was fully fledged but people wereb't sure what to do with it yet.

This is more Cinemaphile related but I found Looking Glass's old website (they were the game devs who made the Ultima Underworld, System Shock and Thief games) and even found the actual definition of what immersive sim means (it's was on their old website and has been on Wayback since 1997. Most people just don't know wtf they're talking about) But then I dug deeper and found a whole bunch of links to weird shit was on there including a link to the original version of Stormfront (lmao) and a list ranking 90s porn stars with the biggest clitoris's

It's probably run by an older person who doesn't have young people around to keep them updated about technology.

Boomers get stuck in tech-loops like this all the time. You have no idea how many people over 60 are out there playing the same match of aoe2 against the computer over and over for twenty years now.

AICN is still stuck in 2003: https://www.aintitcool.com/

Years ago, I remembered a commercial I saw as a kid. I couldn't find it on YouTube, but I did find it on a website for child actors. The site had obsessively detailed profiles for random kids. It did not appear to be owned by an agent nor was linked to some kind of casting site. In hind sight, pretty sure it was a site for pedos.

OP thinks it's weird but for those who were among the original "movie news geeks" it's nbd. Personally I wish we design would revert back to the comedy 1995 style and it's a big reason why I spend my life here. OP apparently doesn't see the irony. I was there when Garth started Dark Horizons in Australia. I received the first ComingSoon mailing list email. I was a prolific presence on the Chud boards inb4 "you're a chud," it stands for Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dweller. I was the first renter Chud II: Bud the Chud because I asked my mom and pop how many times it had been rented and they looked it up. There was an innocence, a sense of pride in the movies back then, thousands of us lived for the summer blockbuster season back when it was ConAir, Twister, Cast Away, Jurassic Park, Die Hard 3, The Rock, The Shadow and Batman Forever. Maybe there's a reason why Cinema.com is staying true to the era. Maybe the owners want it to return.
