What's the best speaker setup that will allow me to hear the dialogue without having the music and sound effects cause earthquakes?

a 2.0 or 2.1 that uses actual standalone speakers and not integrated 5w laptop/tv junk.

      I'm

500k stereo setup w/ a pair of speakers and an amplifier. I'm happy with my situation.

and I have a pair JBL A130 speakers hooked up to a Yamaha R-S202 receiver. It's a setup I saw shilled in some Cinemaphile /hifi/ threads as a kind of value champ, good bang for your bucks. I'm really satisfied with it, I had active monitors before and it makes a world of difference, you can really hear definition and detail in the sound, plus it does a lot to make dialogue more audible. Get yourself a nice pair of speaker stands, so they're at ear level.

      >dialogue without having the music and sound effects cause earthquakes?
      but that's half the fun

      >11.1.4
      What do these numbers mean?

Sound channels, now you ask, what does that mean? Know I do not

5.0 surround, about $1000 total. No subwoofer because it's just my small apartment and the 5 inch drivers do enough bass in this small space to be pleasant and not bother other people

I run a 3.1 setup...but Im pretty tired of dealing HDMI handshake issues so I may go back to just using the TV speakers..or look for a middle ground with a soundbar

What issues? Just don't touch it

I wish it was that simple. Its some combination of my Sony Android TV and Onkyo receiver involving the video signal. My PS5 is especially bad if I run it through the receiver, so direct connecting it to the TV is the only reliable way to get it work. I have my Apple TV going through the receiver and it behaves most of the time but occasionally it wigs out. When it happens, the only way to get it to work is to reboot the TV. Ive been through cables etc. I think its something with the implementation of the HDMI stuff since manufactures roll their own, Sony's being BraviaSync. Even though its supposed to be a standard, they do some undocumented shit. Its either that or the Onkyo receiver video section is just shit, either way Im kinda tired of dealing with it

The best way to deal with arc shitting itself is literally just a long usb cable to a receiver with usb input. The lowest spec usb 2.0 stuff can do 32 channels of pcm.

The idea of having distinct sounds going on all around you is mostly a meme, but surround still gives a certain fullness to the sound that you don't get from just front speakers

I would rather have a triple center channel 3.1 system than a traditional 5.1 setup.
If you put me on a budget that's what I'd do with it.

You're quite early in the game. Not a lot of cowboys around before the westward expansion. Do you wear a powdered wig?

I’ve got a Sonos arc soundbar and a sub. I’m saving up to buy a pair of era 300’s for surround.

It’s expensive and probably overpriced but it sounds fantastic.
