Velma's age is so easily forgettable that tons of NSFW artists from around the globe have accidentally drawn underage porn at least one time when they drew her
But I also believe there are people out there that know she's around 15 and don't care because the vast majority do not care. If you get caught you could just handwave the issue by saying your drawing of her is just based off one of the many interpretations of her where she's an adult.
Luckily though their age doesn't really matter beyond a common line every villain calls them by so who cares. I think even the writers forget they're just teenagers

I'm not sure that age is even canon. I don't think the shows ever mention any ages. They're just "teens".

Velma was never hot, it was always Daphne who was the femme fatale of the group. Velma was the brains, the stereotypical nerdy girl. The reason you think this way, is because of the miscast of Velma in the movies and THAT scene she had with the leather suit. And I say miscast, because Linda Cardellini is just as if not more attractive than Sarah Michelle Gellar, when it shouldn't have been this way.
So it was either a genuine miscast, or someone behind the production somehow had the hots for Velma and wanted to present her as the best possible girl.

      Anonymous

Or here me out, Maybe over the past 20 years there's been a cultural shift to prefer nerdy girls over girl next door types.

        Anonymous

Judging from porn, no. Nerdy girls have their place, but otherwise it's either cutesy girl next door or stacies. Daphne, imo and judging from the way she carried herself in the series, is a stacie that is however unusually approachable and ends up becoming a girl next door.
Liking the nerdy girl was and still is a (strong) minority preference. And no, simply wearing glasses doesn't make you a nerd.

            >I concur with this statment

For me was not only the cartoons but for some comics i get to read as kid; the 70´s ones moslty are stilized in "funnies" style on art and script but others (drawn by Dan Spiegle and others) keep the style and air from the tv series and the mistery comics of the age.

And while Daphne was the "obvious" Sex appeal poster chic they dont hold notihign on velma as well.

      >Velma was never hot, it was always Daphne who was the femme fatale of the group. Velma was the brains, the stereotypical nerdy girl
That's the appeal my dude. IDK if it's some sort of beta mating strategy but weird girls(nerds, goths, horse girls, stinky goths, etc) are way hotter to me. Stereotypically pretty girls like Daphne just elicit a "don't even bother" response from both my brain and dick

        Anonymous

So you're admitting that you're so incapable of getting a truly attractive woman that your brain and dick even project it onto your cartoons?

This is what I see from all Velma "fans." Just massively overprojected insecurity.

        Anonymous

Honestly I think it's more the "alt girl" is stereotyped as more interesting to most people while being pretty much just as hot as the "conventional girl". Like Daphne's interests are shit most guys would never care about, atleast Velma would probably have some cool science shit even if you're not all that smart yourself.
Also don't underestimate a nerd's ability to project onto someone who is literally just an aesthetic to everything they want. Nothing funnier than anons projecting the idea of down to earth tomboy onto literal super models who cut their hair short for a pr stunt and it made their career.

So you're admitting that you're so incapable of getting a truly attractive woman that your brain and dick even project it onto your cartoons?

This is what I see from all Velma "fans." Just massively overprojected insecurity.

Being less cyncal, not so much insecurity as the ability to imagine she's attractive for more than just her looks.
I'm not sure how anons felt about Velma or Daphne in Mystery Inc, all I remember is Velma was absolutely terrible personalitywise while Daphne seemed to be the only mystery solver with the intuition or ability to solve a damn mystery. Atleast in the beginning.

        Anonymous

All of this just reads like coping with insecurity about being able to get with a conventionally attractive girl, which just furthers my belief that the vast majority of people who prefer Velma only do so because she's the more 'obtainable' of the two.

      >miscast
Nah, I doubt it. The original script was full of filthy humor.

      >The movie was originally meant to be PG-13 and was cut down to PG after like 3 parents were outraged at a test screening in Sacramento. The studio decided to go a more family-friendly route. Language and jokes and sexual situations were removed, including a kiss between Daphne and Velma. Cleavage was CGI'd over. But, thankfully, the farting remained. I thought at the time the rating change was a mistake. I felt like a lot of teens came out for the first film and didn't get what they wanted (and didn't come back for the sequel). But today I don't know. So many young kids loved those movies, which is pretty cool." - James Gunn

Love james Gunn,a nd I love those movies, but I kinda feel like they did Velma dirty. Velma is nerdy, sure, but she's not a gawky dork with no social awareness. I have no idea why they felt the need to make her so painfully stereotypical. Honestly, they did fred dirty too.

  13. 2 years ago
    Anonymous

She's not. She's a nerd who's interests stop at nerd shit and mysteries. She's not particularly polite or accomadating, she's somewhat condescending and as a person she's just sorta bland. The only reason people put her on a pedestal is because they compare her to Daphne, Who is basically the stereotypical Alpha girl. Of course the normal person could never get a Daphne but a Velma might settle for you. But she wouldn't. Velma's actually got pretty high standards. Also if you've gotta give Velma Gargantuan breasts and an ass that won't quit to get your rocks off, just admit that you don't really like Velma and you just like the "conservative introverted nerd" look. Which, more power to ya, but I'm not convinced anyone likes her for more than her aesthetic.

she is ugly, she has the classic dopey male Hannah Barbara face. the same face fred flintstone, funkey phantom and all other males have. you're not supposed to think she is the hot one so of course contrarians flocked to her for literally no other reason. they then spent decades drawing and commissioning off model fanart. they have even interestingly infiltrated and influenced the animation studios and modern adaptations have now drawn her with curves to make her hot and as well as somewhat feminized her dopey face. so modern velma is kinda hot ..sometimes, and OG velma is without question not attractive. i'll take daphne every day of the week, but i of course am in the VERY extreme majority as much as that fact hurts contrarian velma fans to read.

minority, velma is definitely more popular than daphne. it's not even a contest.

Velma just has a way better outfit. In official material Daphne is usually conventionally cuter, especially in the face department, but her fashion is a travesty. Velma is simple but effective

Isn't it strong evidence of Scooby-Doo's degeneracy that if you asked a large number of people who the hottest Scooby-Doo character is, Daphne would probably come in last?

It’s less about degeneracy and more about contrarianism

In the 1980's as a child.

Daphne was supposed to be the "hot chick." But Velma had this little something that awaken things inside me way back then...

Why is there so much seething over people liking Velma?

Probably just a obsessive Daphne fan, pretty sure these kind of threads get started by that same person everytime with the same arguments "huur people only like her because contrariasm, hur dur attainablility"
