when does this get good? I liked the original series and havnt watched any of the other serieses. TNG seems like a slog 6 episodes in. Should I just skip season 1, does it get any better?

It definitely gets better yes
season 1 is poop and season 2 is only slightly better
just skip them both
Yeah, skip season 1 if you're not enjoying it. It's not like you'll be lost. And then if you become a fan you can always go back later if you want. One of the benefits of episodic TV.
season 1 is horrendous and season 2 is mostly shit too
tng became kino with season 3
ok I skip 1 and 2 then
watch these tho:
'11001001' - best season 1 episode
'Skin of Evil' - kind of a crappy episode but one of the few early ones that has lasting plot ramifications
'The Measure of a Man' - classic TNG moral quandry episode, great Picard moments
'Q Who' - another with lasting plot stuff but a great episode this time
This but I would make some additions.
>1x12 - The Big Goodbye. Introduces Dixon Hill. A comfy, albeit not spectacular episode.
>1x13 - Datalore. A decent episode and it introduces a recurring character.
>1x20 - Heart of Glory. A decent episode. Introduces TNG-era Klingons.
>1x26 - The Neutral Zone. I like it. Others hate it. Introduces TNG-era Romulans and starts a recurring plotline.
>2x03 - Elementary, Dear Data. Comfy, and introduces a recurring character.
>2x08 - A Matter of Honor. Not necessary but it's a good enough episode and has more Klingon introduction.
>2x11 - Contagion. A good episode and is referenced later on.
>2x15 - Pen Pals. A good episode. Introduces prime directive morality.
2x20 - The Emissary. A good episode and adds backstory and a recurring character.
>not including Conspiracy (1x25)
What’s the episode that comes before it?
OP isn't enjoying season one so this is the best suggestion, you can always go back later
>The first season also contains some offensive elements, like the episode "Code of Honor," which featured stereotypical Black characters andoffended viewers.
I came in to mention that this was one of the better eps in season 1
Why do nu trekkies seethe so much about this episode? You can literally find tribes and Muslim cultures today that still operate with such cultural norms. Black Panther shows homies fighting to the death to determine their new king and everyone was just a-okay with it.
because the black people seem nerdy and weird
if they seemed cool, people would be fine with it, even with the exact same plot
I actually loved that episode and was the first one I liked and got me hooked
the story about why this episode is the way that it is amuses me.
qrd ?
>Skip s1 and s2 they're bad
Such a cringe opinion.
Those are cheesy, yes, but they're fun regardless and let you see the series growing into maturity.
im new to trek and i mostly enjoyed s1 and s2 but my taste is terrible. i just find it comfy, there were only a few episodes i really didnt enjoy..
I'm new to trek too and I just watched ep 3 of TNG. Some decisions are hilarious and I'm surprised they are in a show like this. Like Yar saying she had to escape from rape gangs in her childhood? The drunk virus that made everyone horny as frick and data porked Yar in her minge his with robo dick? There's so much hilarious and comical shit in it
Data is... fully functional.
If you like Star Trek, the very first episode.
Season 1 is mostly garbage. It gets consistently good in season 3 though season 2 has some gems.
Season 2 has a handful of great episodes and TNG's third season is consistently excellent with only a few duds. Just note that, as good as TNG becomes, it's a very different show from TOS.
There's a couple of good episodes in season 1, still worth watching
Also you learn to know the characters, and without watching it you'll miss out on future references like Tasha Yar
It helped me to watch episode reviews afterwards if you have no one to talk to about them
I found these guys who are also watching for their first time
Season 1 and 2 are great. I like Justice (8) and Conspiracy (25) a lot from season 1 but many of tje rest are good too. And The Royale (12) from season 2 is great as well.
I would say not to skip any of them. If I have to be honest, S1 and S2 >>>> all the other seasons once you've seen the entire series front to back, because S1 and S2 retain the air of old school scifi mystery that's lost in the later seasons when it feels like everything is mapped out or known.
S1 and S2 were truly about exploring and encountering the unknown, later seasons feel like it's more political and less "out there".
It's always good. How did you get past the original when Season 1 is basically Star Trek unused episodes?
>Season 1 is basically Star Trek unused episodes
prolly because its with inferior characters and actors
just start with season 3 anons, that's how i get normies into that's where the show takes stride
watch q who in season 2 though, important plot episode
where do they get the milk for hot chocolate?
it's replicated
Milk?
True hot chocolate is made with water and melted chocolate. Milk is for that awful powdered stuff that people try to call hot chocolate.
Why would you replicate the shitty bargain bin version of hot chocolate?
>not making hot chocolate with milk and real chocolate
lactose intolerance?
>melted chocolate
Boy do I have news for you about what they put in that chocolate
>skipping even a single episode that's not an obvious recap on your first watch through
jesus christ
what if I dont like watching poorly written shlock?
read a book
>not knowing the difference between episodic and serialized television and that episodic tv is made assuming the audience won't catch every episode
jesus christ
It is as good as it starts.
People who skip content need to be flaided and quatered alive.
Fricking reddit fricks.
>People who skip content
DO NOT SKIP CONTENT
CONSOOM CONTENT

Consumer culture was a good thing and I'm tired of pretending otherwise especially when participatory culture is basically trickling down mediocrity
Season 1 feels like a creepy cult indoctrination at times.
The only episodes that are really necessary from season 1 are the Encounter at Farpoint (introduces Q and the cast), Skin of Evil (important plot episode despite not being very good), and The Neutral Zone (sets up several important factions). The rest can be skipped, though in general Conspiracy is also considered to be pretty good. As other anons have already said, everything after is much better.
Oh and also Datalore, that's another important plot episode that sets up a recurring villain.
All S1 episodes are necessary. It's S7 that can be skipped entirely until All Good Things.
>not liking the episode where the Enterprise starts slowly transforming into an Aztec pyramid and Data becomes a sun god
ngmi
He's a pale guy
If it really gets to you, just watch these episodes of season 1
>Hide and Q
>Datalore
>Heart of Glory
>Skin of Evil
>Conspiracy
>The Neutral Zone
Seasons 1 and 2 are the most uneven seasons of TNG. There's some really significant episodes you should for sure watch, but a lot of the first couple seasons are also padded with a lot of leftover TOS scripts (badly) adapted for TNG.
>when does this get good
Seaosn 2 + 3 are much stronger than S1 and then it's golden until the end.
