wasn't DC always the subpar choice when put against Marvel? I think they're both terrible but the general consensus seemed to be that Marvel was the more popular one.

      >wasn't DC always the subpar choice when put against Marvel?
The way I always saw DC is that it was the quality choice for cape films. Nolan's Batman, Joker, Keaton's Batman, Reeve's Superman, Smallville, Lois and Clark (90's), DCAU are examples of this. With Disney/Marvel it is the popular TV style popcorn movies. Fox/Sony Marvel had the quality as well. The Snyderverse was a continuation of the quality that has come before but was hampered by studio execs who wanted to chase Disney to the bank.

It completely slipped my mind that the Joker and the batman series is DC. I enjoyed those far more than any marvel film now that I think about it. But I never really got into the whole DC universe or marvel.

There was a time when DC was a lot more popular than Marvel. Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and the Justice League used to be far more well known and loved than any of Marvel's characters besides Spider-Man, Hulk, and Wolverine. But when Iron Man got made into a movie, it changed everything. Suddenly he was on par with Batman in popularity and fame. At this point, Marvel is bigger than DC because the MCU eclipsed everything DC has been doing for the last 15 years or so.

This. As I said WB needs to change strategy and have their DC universe be more like Star Trek TOS or TNG. Lower budget, excellent writing and stable show runners who know where to take their vision for their shows.

i was never a comic book guy, but when i was a kid in the 90s it seemed like DC had more cultural relevance. everybody knew Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. Batman and Superman had cartoons I watched and liked. the only Marvel hero people really knew was Spiderman. there was some awareness of like Captain America and the Hulk but not on the level of Batman and Superman. the Raimi Spiderman movies unironically started the wave of Marvel supremacy IMO

That new headline is still damning for WB. They need to realize that Gunn/Safran is not the savior they were hoping for. I'm okay with a full reboot but there needs to be a much longer break. At least 5 years. And no more DCEU/DCU. Just a director for one IP to complete their trilogy. That's for film. TV is where DC is best though. I would start with a Superman TV series and a Batman one separately. When there are bigger threats then you end the season with a cliffhanger and release a film. Then go back to a new season. Rinse and repeat. This is the formula that is desperately needed because we need to grow with these characters.

The new animated movies are the only good thing DC/WB are putting out these days. It's a new animated universe they call the "Tomorrowverse" that began with Man of Tomorrow in 2020. There are still plenty of blunders with it, but the good parts are what remind you how it felt to be a superhero fan again

Here's a thought, quit while you're behind. They needed to make this whole thing work over ten years ago, when superheroes films were still exciting to normie audiences, but they keep fricking it up, rebooting, fricking it up, rebooting. But it's too late, people are getting sick of superheroes, they had arguably the most famous comic book characters of all time and completely fumbled it at every step. Put this whole genre on the shelf and acknowledge that it failed for them.

    >"That means offering consistency and not changing directions every time some critics and certain segments of fandom become blinded by nostalgia or throw tantrums when the story isn’t told the way they wanted it to be. That means decisiveness and letting filmmakers do more than simply adapt the familiar, but challenge what we think we want from these movies and what we think we know about these characters. The DCU has to do more than make fans believe a man can fly. It has to make them believe that this time, there’s a willingness to stay the course and see that flight to its destination. Only then will the DC film fans be found again."

            >Apart from the fact that Marvel is kinda already doing that.
They are but for the MCU they have reached their "series finale" with endgame. I don't understand why they are continuing the MCU at this point, it's all meaningless to me.
            >How would you make It better?
End the DCEU/DCU completely starting from now. Let Aquaman 2 release and from then on have a 5 year break. During that time you can have a Smallville continuation and even bring Brandon Routh back for his own Superman series. When the times comes you then start advertising a new Superman series that is brand new and not tied to anything that came before. Make it comfy and wholesome with as little politics as possible. After the second season if all goes well you can introduce Batman on the show and then give him a series of his own. Third season of Superman will be a build up to his first solo film, Brainiac. At this point Superman and Batman are already friends and will team up if needed. From there you can start growing the DC universe.

Watching flash ATM because it's on HBO Max and it's decent but really how many fricking different actors playing Batman do we need? There are zero stakes when multiverse shit comes into play, I hate it

they're moronic for still trying. i guess DC thinks since Marvel is starting to flounder that this is their opportunity, but people aren't just tired of Marvel-shit, they're tired of capeshit in general. DC blew it, they fricked up when shit was hot and now they missed the window. they're going to have to really innovate if they want any shot now, even if they vastly improve their overall quality, sticking to the standard super hero movie formula that they and marvel have been following just isn't going to work and i seriously doubt the morons running things there understand this.

ZSJL ends on a massive cliffhanger with the imminent fall of Earth....

....and then the next DC movie is Harley Quinn's female friends doing frick all. Frick these clueless twats. They wasted all that potential on frick all. Snyder dragged their asses for long enough. Gunn is failing even worse than Hamada did.

Have you tried making a good movie instead of trying to “catch up” to MCU like you’re owed people’s money?

I enjoyed the Snyderverse even for all it's flaws, it's was a very different experience to Marvel.

Now DC is just shit tier Marvel.

I'd like to go see Blue Beetle, but I'm a broke NEET and don't have the money to do so. Plus WB has a horrible track record for anything that isn't Batman/Superman related, and even those have been ok at best the last decade.

turns out the Snyder "pajeets" were actually just Americans that watched a microcosm of American corporatism play out with Cavill, Affleck etc and are now voting with their dollar in a heavily inflated, nosediving economy.

snyder destroyed the entire dc brand

he destroyed one of the most iconic teamups of all time with his garbage batman v superman movie
he destroyed the concept of the justice league movie
he destroyed the concept of the multiverse with the garbage flash

    he destroyed DC brand forever.

I liked the Snyder stuff as it was clearly a different thing to Marvel. When they started chasing Marvel by micromanaging their directors I dropped it. Shazam was the last one I watched, and it was obvious the franchise wasn't what I was looking for anymore. Watched Snyderleague and left with blue balls.

Wait, you mean the people showing up to the movies, buying merch, donating to charaties, and going out of their way to give free promo to DC were the real fans and not the people shitting on every DC movie, comic, and TV show and worshipping every piece of shit MCU movie that came out without ever hiding their bias were never actually planning to support DC after they abruptly changed directions to become MCU lite?

    Wow. Color me shocked.

The outcome of this was always to anyone paying attention. MCU fans just like hating DC films and everything else. They were never the ones actually showing up to support DC films. Most of them weren't watching them at all and criticizing them anyway. Warner Bros fell for obvious trolling and shit posting and responded by destroying their own active fanbase to appease people who'd never consider supporting them. Have fun with the "real DC fans".

They're mostly just finishing shit they already had in the pipeline. Wait for the proper reboot material before we write off James Gunn. DC could really pick up.

      >They're mostly just finishing shit they already had in the pipeline
Well too bad those movies just keep damaging the brand and people are already writing off Gunn since they are being associated with his universe.
      >inb4 but that's not his fault
It is when the moron keeps being vague, confusing and contradictory with his statements about the state of the DC universe

As a (former) DC fan, why the FRICK would I watch a DC movie? Superman is a murderer, Batman is a murderer, Wonder Woman is a spindly israelite murderer, the stories used for adaptation are garbage like Flashpoint and the New52 Suicide Squad.
The DCEU has more in common with a fricking Boys comic than it does with the DCU I grew up loving.
