One of my blindspots that I've always wanted to check out. I have the bluray with the theatrical cut and the redux, plus Hearts of Darkness which I intend to watch after. Which cut is the superior cut? I heard there's an even newer cut, is that superior still? What does Cinemaphile recommend?
Yooooyoyoyoyoyoyoyoyoyoyooyoyooy
I saw the Redux first and never looked back in maybe five or six viewings. Never understood people who say they prefer theatrical because in my opinions there is nothing wrong with redux, it's perfect. I suspect the dislike may come from personal failings of the viewer like attention deficit, addiction to spectacle, etc... or it even may be an elaborate inside joke, a meme aimed to gaslight.
The Final Cut is an improvement from the Redux apparently
Final Cut is just the pussy option, you may as well go all the way if you're going to have extra footage.
No. It's by far the weakest of the three. Choppy, heady, spontaneously switching from economy of Redux to exhilaration of theatrical, it's like cocaine-fueled Scorsese at his worst.
Even the added parts of the Final Cut draw attention away from the real meat of the story, a comedic scene involving a surf board is not needed. The French scene is worth a watch afterwards as an addendum but I don't think it's needed in the actual film. Theatrical is my only pick along with Heart of Darkness documentary.
Redux, watch the full 3 hours
Theatrical first
Theatrical, no question. Redux is way overlong and the pacing is fricked. If you love the theatrical, then watch the Redux later.
Theatrical. Any other answer is troll shit
Theatrical is the last hurrah from the master of the 70s, Redux you can actually see post 70s Coppola creeping in and fricking it up.
Theatrical cut only then Heart of Darkness. The Redux or even the final cut are not worth your time other than a couple superfluous scenes that you can watch on there own after.
final is best, it's just redux with the shit bits taken out.
final>theatrical>redux
only one in this thread who knows what they're talking about. adds in all the extra madness scenes but keeps out the moronic french shit
t. didn't watch Final Cut
that shot of the frenchman saying "zis business kept our family together" at the empy table is so simple yet so good
I fricking rolled my eyes when I saw that shit
>"this business keeps our family together"
>shot of mostly empty table after everyone left
So fricking cheap and predictable, unbelievable someone like Coppola would film a scene like that.
spotted the moron
Redux gays uncontrollably seething
ehrm no u
damn he got you
samegay
nah, the scene was kino and it was even funnier that coppola decided to can the entire sequence at first because the set designers did too much of a good job with it
The theatrical is essentially an increasingly intense and surreal trip down the jungle river to the 'heart of darkness'. The Redux fricks this up by including a 30 minute dinner scene in the middle. It's interesting from a historical point of view, but save the Redux for later and watch the Theatrical first, its excellent.
redux
>boohoo le french plantation scene is... le too long
learn to watch a fricking movie
like the anon above me said, heart of darkness is a must-watch too after seeing the movie
>My greatest fear is to make a really shitty, embarrassing, pompous film on an important subject, and I am doing it. And I confront it. I acknowledge, I will tell you right straight from... the most sincere depths of my heart, the film will not be good.
just warch the frickin movie and stop making treads about it ye got dam plum brain num skull
imagine ye sitty there on yer keester and aint even see apockylips now in 40 years but you got the gall to make a tread boutit
Coppola just added tons of extra unnecessary footage to Apocalypse Now to get some quick easy cash from a re-release, then did the same with Final Cut, and also did the same with multiple re-edits of the Godfather Saga. In every case, the original theatrical versions are the best.
OP here, thread has convinced me to watch theatrical. Will double feature it with Hearts of Darkness this week. My thanks!
Op for once is not a gay.
>this week
nicker what arlse are you doing you caint warch this moobie imeedgietely
Its always fun to give it a watch again and try a different version of the movie just to see what they added or removed. try to do that and watch Redux and Final Cut in that order if you have the Blu Ray with all the Versions.
found another moron
Theatrical but with the plantation scene.
Redux if you enjoy auteur cinema, theatrical if you don't have much attention span and are just looking to watch a cool thriller movie. Theatrical cut = for people who have seen every single Terminator film
OP wisely rejects Redux. Redux gays in total meltdown.
>t. looks at phone during quiet scenes
>t. buttmad frenchman
>frog and wojakposters are moronic
Waow
