I watched vanilla sky while withdrawing from alcohol and it sent me into some existential crisis where I was questioning everything about my own reality for like a month afterwards. It was my first viewing so I had no idea the twist was coming.

I love Jacob's Ladder, is there anything with similiar aesthetics and atmosphere?

I'll give it a try, not watching the trailer or anything but this comment made me lol.

There’s a category called “fever dream”. There aren’t many mainstream ones, maybe natural born killers.

That is exactly it although, I didn't really like Natural Born Killers. Mulholland Drive is probably the best movie I watched that fits into that category.

Does Motorama qualify? Miracle Mile? Those are films I would associate with fever dreams

Those look very interesting, I'll check them out for sure. Another movie that I really enjoyed that felt like a fever dream was Valerie and Her Week of Wonders.

They might also apply here to some extent at least

Yeah probably not a great idea ey?

Actually a nightmare movie to experience ego death with, right near the end, the script starts taking the piss out of drug users who think they're enlightened by using psychadellics. Funny if you're sober, spiral trigger if you're tripping balls.

I remember seeing a trailer for some generic shitty 70s or 80s horror movie. It had a guy in a straitjacket screaming and thrashing around, and a doctor saying he became insane from going to see the movie the trailer was for. Cool marketing gimmick

Possession and Enter The Void stand out as films you should never show anyone who's either a schizo or withdrawing from drugs.
