The original won't be tarnished by a second season, so that.

Wait did the 2024 Shogun not finish adapting the book?
Its not a long book. You should be able to adapt it wiyhin one season.

It finished adapting the book but that didn't stop FX from greenlighting 2 more seasons.

it finished the book but tokugawa didnt evaporate after sekigahara and he wasnt even shogun at the end

          Ffs.
Well on that basis alone the original must be superior

The original looks better but the lead's a homosexual and they don't subtitle the Japanese. It also focuses way more on the love story between the Anjin Sama and Mariko San.

True, but this adaptation was more focused on the Japanese politics than Blackthorne making him more of an observer to the main event and Jarvis did a pretty good job with it.

The original didn't reek of British Columbia at every turn. The book complained about the weather because it was summer and hot. The clothing and material made a big difference. I get that doesn't quite matter in the plot other than the blackship and wasn't the main focus but I couldn't help but notice how much it rained on set and all the trees looked like BC (because it was) than Japan. The original was actually filmed in Japan.

Yes, Hiroyuki Sanada is the producer of the show and he refused to participate in it unless they make it as authentic as possible.

They already twist history a bit in the show. They could easily claim a stand in character for Yasuke is still living in Japan as a wise old samurai.

                >wise old samurai
He was black. They're not wise, usually don't get old and have never been samurai.

Errrm sorry chud Yasuke was actually the most powerful and brave Samurai of them all. You just don't want him in Shogun because he's a role model for young black children.

        >Wait did the 2024 Shogun not finish adapting the book?
Yes, but Tokugawa and Anjin didn't evaporate after 1600, there is ton of historical events that are on itself kino of the highest order. William Adams (Irl Anjin) was very important in Japanese history, he has several places named after him, including a fricking train station (Anjinzuka) and has a statue in Japan for a reason.

It's one long book but Clavell wrote four more long books about Asia, which we will probably never see adapted because they generally make the Chinese look like the soulless insects that they are.

The original had Mifune and was shot on film in Japan. The remake had constant shitty CGI and blue filter over every scene. It's obvious which is better.

the 80s Blackthorne acts like he owns the place the minute he set foot on the island.
it is pretty jarring how he scolds Omi to call him "anjin SAN" like a teacher ...

New version and it's not even a contest. I have some issues with the new version but it doesn't cut out half the story because it refuses to subtitle Japanese and Cosmo Jarvis isn't a gay.
