Cringe and tryhard. Non fiction can only tell you what happened or is happening, and nothing of what the people of the culture think or feel. The fiction of a culture is a direct representation of that time and place. Go read another Wikipedia article autismo.

But both films and books can be non-fiction.

Depends on how much time you have and how interested in something you are. I usually use films/tv to see if I'd be interested in the books they're based on. I have seen a bunch of shows that aren't worth reading the books but every show/movie that has got me interested in the book never even remotely compares to the source material.

Why don't booktards realize that book and movie are 2 different mediums?

      Anonymous

Beacuse adaptationtards insist on bragging to the rest of film fans how complex their narrative is and how close to the source material it is. If they stopped trying to hold it over the head of people who primarily want a visual expression instead of endless exposition that still doesn't hold a candle to the depiction in its original written form, booktards wouldn't have to wade into the conversation to point out that the adaptation inevitably wasn't very good as a film and was junk compared to the literature it was based on.

depends on the film or the book

There may be a greater number of legit "good/great" books than great films, but film has more dimensions since it uses narrative, photography, sound, etc., which can provide more to think about or analyze, but of course this only applies to legitimately good film, not something like Nolanslop or worse.

Only read classic books for cred, watch movies that entertain you, no one but fellow "film buffs" will give you cred for them anyways

This used to be worthwhile when the analysis videos were better, now you should probably just watch the movie a 2x speed and 1.25 for the kino parts

The problem arises when you take a book, cut it down, trim the fat, condense the plot, change everything to fit a specific vision, combine characters, remove entire sections, rearrange the narrative... but there is still time for an 18 second scene where the main character is impaled by BBC - which was not in the book.
