But now I'm getting the feeling that you think you're actually on my level. From the day I was born, I was destined for success. I was brought into this world by a software engineer and a prominent actuary, both of Norwegian decent. From the moment that the fricking curtains were raised, I was set to dominate the STEM fields. And because I had guardians that actually cared about me, I flourished. Pretty soon, I was placed into a special school of correspondence, specifically I.M Gelfand's school for gifted children in New England. I not only reached my parent's expectations, but I passed the with flying colors. I had raw talent. I was fricking better. I was surrounded by 6th graders, many from Hong Kong, whom were smarter than half the posters in this website. And now where am I? In MIT, getting my double BS in Electrical Engineering and Physics, with a Stanford-Binet tested IQ of 147 at age 17. Get this through your head: I am worth more than your entire goddamn family. I'm smarter than you, better looking than you, taller than you, wealthier than you, and more employable than you. While you type out another comment, I'll be simultaneously working with the brightest minds in the world and fornicating with my beautiful girlfriend. It gets on my nerves when people pretend to be better than me. Know your place. Never, ever reply to my posts again.

Nolan has a great eye for visuals but his post-Batman Begins films are mostly targeting that 110-120 reddit IQ range where a person thinks they're intelligent but are too dumb to realize they're essentially average.
He really leverages that Michio Kaku popscience bullshit that normies lap up. Oppenheimer looks like more of the same.

Dunkirk was a nice reprieve from his pseud fetish because the main goal was presenting a simple story with its visuals and sound. Memento will always be his best despite being gimmicky simply because it's just so well made, even with the plotholes because they don't matter

        >Are all purposefully overwrought to disguise the fact that they don't actually present any complicated or thought provoking ideas

What's a movie that presents complicated and thought provoking ideas? Because I think Nolan filters midwits more than any other director so please enlighten me about these supposedly intelligent movies.

          Anonymous

I should add that the stupid piece of shit I'm replying to watched all of Nolan's movies and still dares to say they're simple. That means either >he's simple and that's why he likes them
          or
          >they actually are thought provoking and so people of all intelligence levels would be able to enjoy them
I happen to know it's the latter but I'm also not a midwit like the person who wrote the wall of garbage.

There's actually a general for midwits called /film/ and I have a feeling they don't even like speaking to each other if they wander out of it. They should be fricking kneeling to Nolan at all times but they don't have the self-awareness to realise the kind of person they hate is just themself and so they continue to be that person. That's text book midwit behaviour.

No, just mainly 110-120 IQ midwits like I said. I actually enjoyed Nolans movies before he started trying to make "intellectual" ie moronic blockbusters

            Anonymous

            >simple

But Nolan movies ARE simple, and that's actually what makes them popular. I don't mean this in a denigrating way, I think that's actually one of his merits as a filmmaker. People say he's a bad writer, but he's bad at dialogue which is just one aspect of writing. He's very good at easily conveying what the stakes in any given scene are, what character motivations are, and even his exposition scenes happen in a way that move the plot forward.

Take something like Tenet. The gimmick may be convoluted and frankly breaks down if you look too deeply into it, but the movie is actually easy to follow in the sense that you always know what a given character wants and what the next step in the story is. You only get "lost" in a movie like that if you stop following the actual narrative to microanalyze the gimmick, and there is no reason to do that, UNLESS you feel like it is a challenge to your intelligence, get defensive feel the need to posture yourself above that.

            Basically, criticism like

Nolan has a great eye for visuals but his post-Batman Begins films are mostly targeting that 110-120 reddit IQ range where a person thinks they're intelligent but are too dumb to realize they're essentially average.
He really leverages that Michio Kaku popscience bullshit that normies lap up. Oppenheimer looks like more of the same.
            >Prestige (the best of this category)
            >Tenet
            >Inception
            >Interstellar
Are all purposefully overwrought to disguise the fact that they don't actually present any complicated or thought provoking ideas deapite being billed that way and instead just try to disorient the viewer with nonstop scifi gobbledyasiatic.

are the marks of the midwit because he's too focused on the idea that Nolan movies are trying for "complicated and thought provoking ideas", and since he feels challenged by that, he has to shit on them in order to show everyone else how Nolan didn't get one over him. But ultimately this is just Nolan transforming some ideas he personally finds interesting into visual storytelling. Going back to Tenet, it's not so much a movie "about time reversal" inasmuch as it is a spy movie that happens to USE time reversal as its main story device.

This is the undeniable truth of the graph. It also describes nearly all of reddit. 100-110 IQ is peak "they're insulting my intelligence!" when really it's just that if you dig into movie logic, it will always fall apart.

It's potential for war is equally great. The same sort of machine being a plot point in some movies set in the 1910's with the cast being secret agents fo the various Great Powers playing these cat and mouse games with each other, competing to track the machine down, etc. could be fun. I guess, in the end, the 'hero' agents decide the machine needs to be destroyed, and the villainous agent(s) is all bloodlust and zeal for war as a type of cleansing thing. Have the German agent being one of the good ones - make him a red herring though, before his high mindedness/redemption comes through in the 3rd act.

I think my feelings of inadequacy stem from being a fricking moron in high school and losing so much ground due to my ignorance and lack of discipline. In addition, after watching Breaking Bad for the first time, it made me realize that I can never "be the best" at anything like Walter White is the best meth cook around. I know it's stupid and meaningless, especially because it's a television show, but it really does make life seem pointless and like I am just wasting time if I get good at something.

-read more in a focused way, and read BOOKS rather than snippets. Not just any books either: try reading at least one Shakespeare play, for instance get an edition with footnotes for vocabulary/context

I already am fit and in shape so I suppose I will add reading into my routine. How has reading improved your life?

probably just not being lazy is a good start and if you feel yourself sliding into that cycle you need to find something new to prevent it. I did maths and comp sci when I was younger, got a good job, read everyday and exercised but then I got lazy and all I do now is watch TV and get drunk. often find myself making mistakes and being moronic unlike my younger self. its probably the reason why there's so many morons these days, everyone is lazy.

I can't believe the thread's gone on this long without anyone saying Conan the Barbarian. Anyone who doesn't like that movie should be confined permanently to reddit. It's the ultimate midwit detector.

Many movies which are non-moral filter NPCs and milquetoast types. Something similar happened with the way Inifinity Pool was received, check out some of the imdb negative reviews
