For whatever reason, WB decided to put most of their weight behind her instead of Superman or Batman. To recast that character now would be dumb even by WB's absolute monkey-brained standards.
Honestly, it's a good thing that DCEU imploded. It gives them the reason to start fresh. The MCU is pretty much starting anew as well, with varying results. Maybe this time DC will learn how to take it slow, make sure there's a certain vibe/theme across all DCEU movies.
