Pinocchio will win. But at the end of the day, it's still Netflix vs Disney. I would be okay if Puss won, but I think it will be dismissed as being a pointless Shrek spin-off.
Turning Red >first time director >asian woman >after John Lasseter >about 2000's pop culture and generational trauma
GUILLOTINE DEL TORO'S movie >movie about growing old and boomer wars
red panda is the real underdog here.
turning red is a movie directed by an ASIAN WOMAN also her first time as director and her story about growing up and body changes which is what animation studios such as cartoon network focuses a lot. also it smartly uses early 2000 era elements for parents and adults to feel comfortable and nostalgic. meanwhile guillermo del toro makes another movie about NAZIS BAD WYPPIPO BAD OK? which is a topic so last week and boring, the people want somerhing fresh, something feelsgood, somerhing they can identify with.
I have family that are Academy members and they’re betting on Pinocchio due to Del Toro being a well-known name, Domee Shi’s puberty frickjamboree of a film was only brought up in passing due to it being from Pixar and them feeling that they’ve lost their touch.
>Critics might give it to Marcel, but I doubt the Academy would.
The Critic’s Choice Awards already happened and they gave it to Pinocchio.
>The Critic’s Choice Awards already happened and they gave it to Pinocchio.
OK but NYFCC gave it to Marcel. For a while it looked like Marcel would win most critic awards. Critics Choice isn't like the most prestigious one, just the one that gets on tv.
It is the 21st century. For more than a dozen years The Monke has sat immobile in his bunker in the Kremlin. He is the Master of Ruskind by the will of banan, and master of a million vatniks by the might of his inexhaustible corruption. He is a manlet seething visibly with power from the Dark Age of Communism. He is the Simian Lord of the Steppes for whom a hundred mobiks are sacrificed every day, so that he may never truly lose.
Yet even in his decrepit state, the Monke continues his eternal vigilance. Mighty rustbuckets cross the drone-infested miasma of the Black Sea, the only warm-water port to distant lands, their way lit by the Copenomican, the psychic manifestation of the Monke's will. Vast armies give battle in his name in uncounted villages. Greatest amongst his soldiers are the Veh Deh Veh, the Blyat Marines, vodka-addled super-warriors. Their comrades in arms are legion: the Rosgvardija and countless PMC forces, the ever vigilant FSB and the priests of the Russian Orthodoxy to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat from Ukies, democracy, prosperity - and worse.
To be a vatnik in such times is to be one amongst untold millions. It is to live in the most dysfunctional and corrupt regime imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been embezzled, never to be re-aquired. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim dark present there is only banan. There is no peace amongst the steppes, only an eternity of dedovshchina and alcoholism, and the shrieking of thirsting Monke.
>Del Totoro's Pingocchio
If the Academy wants to play safe, Del Toro is an award darling, boomers love to praise him. >Turning Gay
If the Academy doesn't care at all, the usual "my kids watched this one" vote. >Pussyboots 2 Wish Boogaloo
If the Academy actually cares. Let's be real, this movie is good, and it's filled with several visual elements, call backs, foreshadowing, visual storytelling, and overall entertaining. >the other two ones
Uuhhhhhhhhh...

praising the Puss in Boots sequel because you had no expectations doesn't make it a good movie.
del toro's shit is so fricking artificial, literally made to be award bait.
Turning Red was actually enjoyable and transgressive, it made prudes uncomfortable about pads and morons angry about 9/11
There is no fricking way ANY movie has been viewed by 1/3rd of the entire US, let alone 3/4ths for Encanto.
Someone is view farming those numbers, if they're even remotely accurate.

You could just prop up the dang thing as background noise and it counts for minutes watched. Its a moronic metric that doesn't accurately show whos interested in what, which makes these studios bleed money trying to keep streaming afloat
Turning Red definitely.
With it's mature themes of terrorism and deep commentary on 9/11 it's truly one of the most beautiful films ever along side My Big Fat Greek Wedding.
Pinocchio wins because it has GDT's name. That's it. That's literally it. It could have been a ten minute short made in MS paint and it would have still won because it has del toro's name. The people who choose these awards literally hate animation, they don't even watch the movies.
Puss for the win.
I want the one that will cause the most butthurt to win.
Turning Red didn't get a theatrical release. How do you expect it to possibly have a chance?
It got a qualifying release for the Oscars though.
Pinocchio will win. But at the end of the day, it's still Netflix vs Disney. I would be okay if Puss won, but I think it will be dismissed as being a pointless Shrek spin-off.
>Netflix vs Disney
This is what the category has turned into these past 4 years.
And Netflix has lost every single time

So nobody thinks it will be marcel the shell with shoes on?
Critics might give it to Marcel, but I doubt the Academy would.

anyways I'm waiting for those Honest Oscar Ballots that the Hollywood Reporter does.
Also BAFTA.
And Annies.
That could tell us who will actually win.
Marcel is just the token indie animated movie they nominate each year to give the impression that they care about the craft.
I'm here thinking that Pinoc winning Golden Globes and Critics Choice (both joke awards) means that the Academy will go for it.
I'm also thinking of critics groups like LAFCA which went with Pinoc.
None of those ARE the Academy so will they default to Disney? or will they go for Del Toro? I really don't know now.
real underdog coming through
Funny how the only one of the nominees that did basically any business at the box office is Puss in Boots 2.
My heart says Puss in Boots but my cynical mind knows better and says Turning Fed
Either the Oscar bait shit by Del Taco or Disney money. If audience opinion actually matters then Puss
>it has emotion so it must be oscar bait
cope
I refuse to respect the mestizo that respects Noam Chomsky
Pinocchio sucked and any emotion derived from it was the most by the numbers trite. It literally reminded me of pic related.
>If audience opinion actually matters
trust me, it doesn't.
Hopefully both autistic fanbases cover in shame and stop shitting up my board
are homosexuals itt serious
of course the gisnep yas queen grrl power groomer film by a WOMYN is going to win over some weirdo rip off toon no one saw

based, but why?
I don't care who wind, as long as someone bombs the Oscars.

Can't wait for you vermins to be bullied to death
won't change the fact that Twerk Panda 2000 is the better movie.
>ruins your shitty pedobait movie’s release
who ruined what lol

Yikes

Just because Chapek is a piece of shit doesn't mean anything about Turning Red.
Mei Mei will win her Oscar, it is certain.
Turning Red definitely.

Marcel should win it
don't who just as long as it ain't Didney
