First. Turtles as we know them is because of the ‘80s cartoon. The live action movies was direct response to its popularity
G2 was closest to the comic and had some of the best plots until about four seasons in when battle nexus takes off I stopped following it
G1 was good all around one of the best cartoons it had it all the first three seasons were great then in season 4 it starts to fall off a bit they changed the intro there were more voice changes and the animation is rushed due to the demand and nothing original is introduced it’s just the same plot over and over again at this point

2003 for actually getting the tone of the comics. That said, Rise is actually decent for trying to shake up the formula in interesting ways instead of being another rehash.
The comics were tongue in cheek Frank Miller parodies, 2003 didn't get the tone at all.
Only the first issue is like that.

2012 tonally mixed the best parts of 1987 and 2003, it's just a shame it's saddled with the subpar CG animation.

80's was a formative childhood thing, but lets be honest like many cartoons in that day it was slop.

2003 by a country mile. 80's is a decent monster of the week kids show with some cool toys but it's not good at all.
