The Phantom Menace is the best prequel. Yeah Jar Jar and little Anakin suck but it's shot on film and looks the least like a video game out of all the 3 prequels. It also has Darth Maul and Qui-Gon

also 20 minutes of podracing, which is pure fricking cinema

George talked about wanting to make a racing movie before he settled in to Episode 1, and decades later you can still feel the meticulous work that was pored into every shot, every sound effect.

It's the longest chunk of the movie with zero score, and you hardly even notice.

None. Usually trilogies get worse as the movies come out, especially if sequels were never planned and are only being made because movie 1 was a success that made tons of shekels. Movie 2 is typically an obvious cash grab that usually follows the same or similar story beats/jokes/plotlines but worse. 3 will end up almost always being better than 2 because 2 will get shitty reviews for being unoriginal and uninspired garbage.

The only exception to this rule is LoTR trilogy where 1=2>/=3. None are considered bad movies at all but 3 gets some criticism for its pacing in the end.

    Thor trilogy

I genuinely don't understand people who maintain that Thor 1 was better than 2.

Thor 1 holds up the worst out of any canon Marvel movie. At least Iron Man 2 had that sequence by Gennedy Tartakovsky.

I honestly don't think I can remember a single thing about Thor 2, and I know I've watched it more recently than the first one.

Loki is a good villain, that robot that shoots a laser out of his face is cool, funny fish-out-of-water humor

        Anonymous

Loki was pretty trash in Thor 1, just a bunch of faux-Shakespearian quipping.

The Avengers was the "Loki" that most people remember actually came into being. Whedon works him into an actually compelling villain, and then we get fun bro-ventures in Thor 2.

Thor 1 also Bannagh's boring, brutalist direction and the wild fricking dye job on Hemsworth. Like seriously go back and look at his eyebrows.

Maybe the first three a nightmare on elm street films.
The first one hasn't aged very well, the second one is equally boring but technically superior and the third one is the most entertaining of the bunch due to no longer taking itself seriously and having the most impressive dream sequences.

Now rewatch the 2nd film with the knowledge that the script was written by a closeted gay.

        Anonymous

I know, it makes the film more interesting if anything. Freddy is literally the representation of his homosexuality and he is banished in the end when his hot gf kisses the main character and makes the gay go away.
Maybe the second film is actually the best one.

Retroactively made the best through the prequels. If you watch them in the intended order (by number) you’ll be able to better understand the stakes because you saw Anakin’s turn to the dark side and see how the same could happen to Luke. In addition to that the Chosen One prophecy give the films a more metaphysical depth enhancing the theme of “good vs evil”. There’s also Palpatine plot line which is given a “tragic” undertone by the prequels since he hasn’t fulfilled his ambition of having the most powerful Sith apprentice, thereby putting a slight flaw in the nearly perfect thousand year Sith plan, which he could rectify be obtaining Luke as his new Apprentice.

Aliens was universally claimed to be better than aliens from it's release until memers said otherwise around 5 years ago, at which point snowflake contrarianphiles jumped on the bandwagon and claim that point unironically.

          Anonymous

Aliens set the standard for the sci-fi action epic, that Scott himself and everyone else is still rehashing to this day.
Alien is a completely different movie, more of a comfy horror. Way more claustrophobic and just oozes soul. I wouldn't really compare them directly, they're both classics.
