i think it was interesting to have a human antagonist who was still a good guy with good motivations and his only issue was that he was just a normal guy not hip to all the supernatural shit going on and couldnt make sense of it. he was a good antagonist to lucas
the biggest two issues for me was

He was a popular kid who cared for his girlfriend but he didn't have any depth outside of that and was a nuisance for the main cast who were trying to save the world.
