Who could direct a Shadow of the Torturer movie/series?

Who could direct a Shadow of the Torturer movie/series? I can't think of anyone who could handle the surreality besides maybe Dune-era David Lynch.

Yeah, Severian is a white Argie a million years in the future.

Way less but you have to realize he lives in a world where women need protection and he is half exultant, so taller and bigger than most. Its not surprising women threw themselves at him

there is no surreality in the books, only the narrator's perception

No one could direct it correctly. Too much relies on what severian does and does not decide to say.
Long Sun would work, also A Borrowed Man / Interlibrary Loan could.
Soldier of the Mist would the most kino though

Either different severians, he is remembering them all, or his perfect memory is just a meme

It can't even be a memory thing, my guy can just go back a few pages in his manuscript and double check what he wrote. It's either infinite Sevarians or him trying to tell the reader not to be too literal.

            checked

he's got all the memory's from the "first" Severian too, and he just plainly says in the book that he changed a "few" things in the story too

        Anonymous

He is lying to the reader. The whole "perfect memory" thing is an invitation from Wolfe to put all of Severian's claims to scrutiny, then you realize he isn't being honest with his new scripture and you need to think about what he is lying about and why.

Tv memed me into reading them last year and i read them 3 times then the rest of his books. Its amazing, starts out as typical heroes journey but every scene gives you hints of foreshadowing you wont pick up on until second reading. Wolfe's best quality was his foreshadowing / worldbuilding

I did the exact same thing. What are your thoughts on Sidero? I took it as him being Jonas, loses his arm, and in his last scene he shakes severian's hand "as a close friend" which only jonas was really ever considered his friend

God, you homosexuals ruin every /sffg/ thread promoting this overrated book. Now you're HERE too?!

It's not that interesting of a world. It's not that interesting of a story. Severian is a simp and a pedo, and his tale isn't worth adapting. I wish there was a way to convey the depths of the apathy I felt while reading this series. I stuck through the whole thing, because I was new to this kind of stuff and just exploring, and didn't want to be presumptuous, and figured that there must be something about this book that I'm not getting, and if I just read a little further, I'll come to understand what other people see in it.

But in the end, it was a huge waste of time.

frick does she get bogged later? im talking about the prostitute that gets stripped searched in front of severian and he describes her breasts and curves...

And the movie is turned into a vehicle to promote feminist/critical race theory propaganda and the story is turned into an allegory about how Trump is bad.

I’m on the second book and struggling to finish, it almost reads like something high school-me would have written, thinking it was cool and unique. The prose is not nearly as good as people claim and the characters may as well be from a shonen anime. I now look down on anyone on this website who claims this series is some hidden fantasy gem, when it just doesn’t deserve such a reputation.

Did it? He said it did and it went smoothly but them dorcas says how much he struggled on the stage directly after it.
The mirrors are the window to different parts of the universe, literal portals

          >The mirrors are the window to different parts of the universe, literal portals
Yeah, that's how I interpreted it. Like a displacement of time. It was just funnier to say windows into the soul.

          >Did it? He said it did and it went smoothly but them dorcas says how much he struggled on the stage directly after it.
It's been a while since I've read it, so those kinds of details are already forgotten. But the way I remember it, he chopped many of people down in one stroke. Not just one dude on stage. And was he struggling physically or emotionally? I have to wonder, because again, it's all very vague for me now. I only have fragments of memories and impressions.

It would be very hard to adapt faithfully. You'd have to have Severian's narration as voice over I think, I'm not sure the story can function without it.

Either way, an hour long play they put on midway through the second book would filter 90% of the audience
