The brother did it, he smashed her on the head because she was being annoying, then dragged her into the basement by her neck and fingered her c**t.
Then the mother wrote the ridiculous ransom note because she didn't want burke to go to prison, and the father covered for everything because he'd been molesting jonbenet and didn't want it to get out.

Good guess but no, the DA, and by extension the city government woudln't cover for them just for that. One of the parents did it and the grand jury indicted but the DA buried it.

No one knows. That’s why this case is so notorious. It’s fricking weird. The brother explanation is usually that he accidentally hit his sister really hard because he was a complete tard with known behavioral problems and at least one of the parents decided to finish her off and stage a murder or something. None of it makes much sense.

Yeah well, they didn’t, and even though I don’t buy into any theory in particular it’s the only one that leaves you with any explanation for a motive whatsoever. Accident happens, they panic and think they’ll lose their son as well, stage a murder. It’s dumb, but I can see it happening. If it didn’t start with Burke being moronic or the smoothest criminal in America sneaking into their house then the mom probably just decided to beat and rope her to death one night. But why?

The mother wrote the ransom note, there's no logical way that anyone else could have done it. The handwriting and phrasing matches, plus it took over 30 minutes including drafts; no intruder would stay that long. The mystery is who dealt the killing blow, and why the others decided to go along with it.

The brother killed her, parents paid off the police.

Child pageants aren't wide spread or a part of the mainstream American culture. This is something seen as being strange and pedophilic no matter how long it's been going on. Don't talk about shit you don't understand or know about.

only pedo minded people would say that child pageants are sexualized, theyre just a way for young girls to celebrate femininity

I remember my friends and I all getting hyped up to attend the local child beauty pageants. We’d tailgate in the parking lot before going in and checking out the sexiest 6 year olds. Some could even sing or twirl a baton

only pedo minded people would say that child pageants are sexualized, theyre just a way for young girls to celebrate femininity

child peagants arent pedo cause they look buttugly, that make up makes them look like clown and its most of a roastie thing, puting make up on kids to kind of hide the fact that kids need no make up unlike them

The mother wrote the ransom note, there's no logical way that anyone else could have done it. The handwriting and phrasing matches, plus it took over 30 minutes including drafts; no intruder would stay that long. The mystery is who dealt the killing blow, and why the others decided to go along with it.

This is an honestly really crucial piece of evidence that for some reason never gets brought up in true crime docs or videos, even the Matt Orchard one.

It was pretty good, most of his videos are excellent and do not fall into the JCS morono speculation tier. It was a good entry level to the case but, because it's so short, it misses some of the more interesting "WTF" moments about the day off.

The thing about this case is that it's fricking hard as balls to pick a side because of all the weird evidence which is equally convincing. I lean toward Burke did it earlier in the night and Patsy tried to cover it up.

Interesting. I sort of lean towards that theory too, but then I also think it was Patsy. You said it perfectly; it's hard to pick a side cause it's all equally convincing. At risk of derailing the thread: when it comes to OJ Simpson/Nicole Brown case I'm almost certain it was his son Jason. If you got time to read up on the clue it was him it's a very interesting and convincing theory.

The clothes are the one thing that doesn't raise suspicion for me at all. You know the police is coming for an extensive investigation; what clothes do you put on? Do you go to your wardrobe and pick out a new outfit? More likely you grab the first thing you have on your side, which is probably the clothes you took off the evening before.

As for the makeup, as far as I understand it, that was an observation by the detectives and not a detailed one. Did it look fresh or was it already worn off? Like a lot of other things, would be interesting to have more details on this.
                >come home late night after a party
                >drop clothes on the floor
                >go straight to bed
                >next morning
                >stress situation
                >make-up is still on
                >need to get dressed
                >put on first clothes you find lying around

I don't think it was the parents because if it was they had a golden opportunity to take however long they wanted to clean up after themselves, get their stories straight, call in any favors with John's glowie contacts, and make the body disappear, considering they had total control over the crime scene and when they were going to alert the police. But they didn't, they called early that morning. That would make sense if John did it and Patsy had no idea and panicked and called the police herself when she saw the note, but most people agree Patsy has always been more suspicious than John in the first place. If Burke did it after smacking his sister over the head for stealing his pineapple or whatever the theory is I doubt they would have gone through that much trouble and put their whole family at risk just to cover up a death that probably would have just been written off as accidental anyway considering the ages of the kids and the affluence of their parents. Plus the mystery cummies DNA on her panties and all, that's kinda hard to ignore.

      Anonymous

For it to not be the family, you have to believe that a master criminal sneaked into the house at night without leaving any sign, silently slipped upstairs to the girl's room, woke her up, took her downstairs without a sound, got pineapple and milk to fix her a snack, then bopped her on the head and took her to the basement, killed her, hid her in the secret storage room.

And then, having just committed the perfect crime, start looking around the house for a pad and pen to spend some time hanging out where you can be caught at any moment to work a couple rough drafts to come up with a complex ransom note with specific details and threats to leave behind for absolutely no reason, except I guess to helpfully point suspicion away from the family.

It's absurd. I feel like the brother hit her on the head, she got hurt bad, so he strangled her to shut her up, and the mom came up with the botched kidnapping angle to protect her son and the family, so that they're the victims of a terrible crime instead of the messed up family with the little boy who murdered his sister.

Their actions are just too odd. The note is ridiculous, and they get the longest ransom note ever in the history of the world, filled with details and threats about how they're all being watched and listened to, and that she's dead and the dad is dead if he so much as talks to a stray dog while he's getting the money, and they immediately pick up the phone and call the cops, family, neighbors, tell everybody to come over right away, and turn the whole house into Grand Central Station. Not even a moment's worry about, like, hey, no cops and we're being watched, so we need to be subtle about this. And then you have the dad just sitting there until the police tell him to go search the house himself "from top to bottom" to make sure she isn't hiding somewhere and the cops just missed her, so he grabs a friend and make a beeline straight for the tucked away room in the basement where her body is.

I stand corrected, here’s the evidence they found

        > In December 2003, forensic investigators extracted enough material from a mixed blood sample found on JonBenét's underwear to establish a DNA profile.[46] That DNA belonged to an unknown male person, and excluded the DNA of each of the Ramseys. The DNA was submitted to the FBI's Combined DNA Index System (CODIS), a database containing more than 1.6 million DNA profiles, but the sample did not match any profile in the database.[47] In October 2016, a report said that new forensic analysis with more sensitive techniques revealed that the original DNA contained genetic markers from two individuals other than JonBenét.[48][49]

        A. James Kolar, who was a lead investigator for the DA's office, said that there were additional traces of male DNA found on the cord and paintbrush that Boulder district attorney Mary Lacy did not mention, and that there were six separate DNA samples belonging to unknown individuals that were found by the test.[8] Former FBI profiler Candice Delong believes that the DNA, having shown up identically in several different places on multiple surfaces, belongs to the killer.[50] Former Adams County, Colorado, District Attorney Bob Grant, who has assisted the Boulder DA's office on the case for many years, also believes that the DNA evidence is significant, saying that any resolution of the case would have to explain how the DNA showed up on several pieces of JonBenét's clothing.[51] Forensic pathologist Michael Baden said, "Trace amounts of DNA can get on places and clothing from all different, nonsuspicious means. There is no forensic evidence to show that this is a stranger murder."[8]

The last line establishes doubt, but the fact that DNA belonging to an unknown person was found in so many critical places is suspicious. That being said, someone being able to splinter cell their way through the house, kill the girl, and then take the time to write that long note is very unlikely

This is basically what happened. It's why the grand jury voted to indict the parents for knowingly placing her into a dangerous situation which caused her death. "Her brother did it" is a brainlet take. He was interviewed multiple times by therapists, often without his parents present, and the idea of a kid of 9 keeping completely silent about killing his sister in that situation is without precedent in human history.

There were very powerful people involved. The FBI was not called in before her body was found despite the note saying it was a kidnapping for ransom = knowledge at very high levels that this was not a real kidnapping.

Fleet White (oil executive who was Ramsey's best friend) turned on him not long after the murder and pulled a handgun on him during an argument. At one point he was described by a police spokesman as "completely amoral".

Stephen Singular did a lot of investigative work on this case. He documented a number of very wealthy people in Boulder who either left town or dropped out of public life after Jon Benet was killed. He got death threats for investigating and someone left a dead cat on his porch.

JonBenets pageant photographer went nuts after the murder saying he was being stalked and harassed by "paramilitary types. " He left town and few years ago he got busted for looking at cp through public wifi.

So obviously someone was responsible that has big money and big ties. Shit like that doesn't happen in smaller cases. I knew it couldn't have been her brother, but he was so easy to blame.

As I recall DNA from a male individual was found mixed with her blood on her underwear. The actual substance mixed with her blood was saliva. The same DNA was also found on both sides of her long johns. Further male DNA was found under her fingers (indicating that she may have been fighting back), however I dont there was enough to identify whether it was from the same male.

This is fundamental problem that I have with people who say it was a member of the family. If that is the case then why is this third party male DNA on her?
Generally people respond with the bizarre circumstances surrounding the kidnapping, however I don’t feel I’ve ever encountered a satisfactory explanation and a DNA shaped hole remains in the theory that the Ramseys killed her.

The thing is, they completely wrecked the crime scene because they didn't treat it as a crime scene. The house was filled with people, some cops, some family, some not, everybody walking around and touching things. They didn't even photograph her body in the basement, the dad brought it up and set it down, they put a blanket on it. The way the crime scene was treated, there was zero care to preserve anything, so serious attention being paid to micro-traces of DNA doesn't seem prudent. Amanda Knox was convicted in Italy for a crime that she obviously didn't commit because they seemed to find little invisible trace DNA on her bra clasp, on a knife, but it was all just nonsense.

Patsy Ramsey did it all. She was controlling and abusive towards Jonbenet. She bleached her hair, forced to dress up in matching outfits with her, watched her weight. Patsy probably took some drugs like painkillers or diet pills and got mad at her daughter after another toilet incident. She whacked her with something heavy or pushed on bathtub. Then she wrote that moronic note to make her husband leave the house. He forced her to call 911 instead. Burke has nothing to do with it. Redditors always cry misogyny for whatever reason if you imply it was her. Mothers kill and abuse children all the time, especially narcissistic and obsessed with appearances like Patsy.

If Burke did it by accident (or not) by hitting her with the kitchen flashlight, then why was Jonbenét later strangled too?
The theory that Patsy covered up Burke's attack only makes sense until that point. But for what possible reason would the parents then proceed to strangle Jonbenét after they find out she's actually still alive?

The only way this makes sense is if Burke didn't just accidentally hit Jonbenét, but he fully intended to murder her and once she woke up he then also strangled her. However, in that situation the behaviour of the parents stops making sense, because protecting the 9-year old son for killing and potentially sexually assaulting his 6-year old sister and their daughter is psychopathic.

          >The note is long and rambling because they were panicking and clearly fricked in the head to do this to begin with

There were multiple drafts. It wasn't a panic job; it wasn't done in a rush.

Everything the killer did after killing her, served the interests of the family. You have a killer who got into the house, got her downstairs, got her pineapple and milk, kill her, put the body downstairs, all without breaking anything or leaving a fingerprint or any evidence. Why the frick would you find a pad and pen, go through rough drafts as you work on a nice big piece of evidence that has absolutely zero benefit for you but is exactly what the family needs and would want you to do.

I mean, imagine if there weren't a note. You have a house with no signs of forced entry, the whole timeline of the events, no real evidence anyone else was there, except a few tiny, invisible patches of trace DNA with millions of benign explanations, what would people think? Somebody gets killed in a house, it's probably the people who were there, the family would be obvious suspects from the very first second.

The existence of the ridiculous letter was a huge gift for the family. Did nothing for the killer, writing it was a risk, cost him a bunch of time, made it a whole lot more likely that he'd be caught and convicted, but it was exactly what the family needed. Yeah, he probably could have accomplished the same thing just by writing, "sorry i love killing, t. some puerto rican guy" in a note or on the wall, didn't have to write a long rambling multiple page note about how a millionaire, who is obviously a millionaire, needs to pay you a ransom of $118,000, which is an incredibly odd number to land on, though coincidentally being the amount of his Christmas bonus.

And there’s no reason to believe he was trying to frame his wife. Sometimes random people just commit crimes like this. The very reason serial killers can be so hard to catch compared to regular murders is because they tend to target people they have no real relationship to.

I doubt the killer ever had so much as a conversation with her before that night. Probably just saw her at some beauty pageant or in one of those magazines and decided to get her

Mother was narcissistic and lived through Jonbenet. She had cervical cancer, probably viewed herself as not feminine anymore, envied her daughters youth and virility.

Starting on the presumption that someone is a murderer and then trying to work backwards by claiming some character flaws explains why they did it (it doesn’t) is just poor logic.

If there was a history of the mother hurting her then sure. But there isn’t.

I think it says more about the insecure mindset of some people that they find it more comforting to be certain her mother killed her with no evidence. Than the prospect an unknown person killed her and got away with it.

The clearance rate for murders is only 54%. The vast majority of murders solved are narrowed down early on via looking at the relationships that person had and ruling them out or in as suspects. The parents were investigated thoroughly and had the unusual decision of being explicitly ruled out as suspects. That simply doesn’t happen except under circumstances beyond question.

I think people prefer the idea it’s the parents or brother because then they can feel safer, because they know their own family and they know they wouldn’t do something like that. If it’s a random intruder than you can’t know anything

The motive is difficult to ascertain, but the note is the dumbest evidence I've ever seen in a case that there is no way the parents don't know anything about it. I just find it literally impossible to believe even something as minute as a killer breaking into a house taking the girl to the basement, then while the 3 other people in the house slept had the confidence to pick up a notepad and write out a comical threat for 20 minutes. Putting aside everything else and just focusing on that note, it makes no sense for anyone else other than a parent or a parents conspirator to write it.

    You ever been to Boulder?
I don't think I've ever seen more homeless people in a city that size

I think after the party some of the guests stayed, maybe help clean up whatever, one of the guests left "to go to the bathroom" but instead went to the girl bedroom and killed her

    My OCD is killing me:
    > Note - Parents
    > Found body in the basement right away - Parents
    > Garotte - Other Party
    > DNA - inconclusive
Anything else? How do we reconcile these?

the police were either intentionally helping the family by being "incompetent" or were incompetent on their own.

      >> Garotte - Other Party
what do yu mean by this?

I don't see any reason for any of the family members to garotte her
I can buy it was an accident, but a garotte is so intentional

made after the fact to convince police it wasn't the family.
exactly the way it convinced you.

imagine if YOU were working the case - you've turned away from the obvious suspects because of the garotte.

          they played you, officer.

            What about

Not likely. She was still conscious when she was strangled and her own fingernail marks were all over her neck because she was clawing at the garrote.

              if true that's awful
still ---- how could it be anyone but the family

look at the fricking "ransom" note.
clearly written by the parents (mother)
why would they do that if they weren't guilty?

That's what's bothering me, parents are clearly in on it, but not the actual murder

                That's the problem, it's
                A) Parents are complicit
                B) Someone else killed her
A and B don't stand up to scrutiny by themselves, but there is also no good theory for A+B
