All you need to realize this is see that the Looney toons cartoons from the fricking 30s are still playing on the TV and kids actually like it, and mickey & co. barely get a weird rebooted show every 20 years that's always stylistically different because each time it fails as Gisnep desperately tries to force Mortimer's meme
Grocery Boy and Trader Mickey are incredible cartoons with great gags. But most Mickey stuff is cutesy dogshit, even if animated well. But Looney Tunes had an edge that let them exceed their original era's reach.

Mickey Mouse is a product of his own popularity. Early Mickey films has him acting like most other cartoons of the day, and kind of being a dick. But as his popularity grew an expectation of being good, friendly and clean. It's the same reason there are twice as many Donald Duck cartoons, Walt even lamented that there wasn't anything he could do with the mouse anymore. So he's become an icon, and you can't do funny or absurd shit with icons. That is changing now, there are new Mickey Mouse cartoons that get good responses and are kinda funny, but GenX and Millennials missed that train.
