I can't get behind this, if for no other reason than the babysitter urban legend had already worn out its originality before the 70s had arrived. Black Christmas just feels like one of these latter day marvel movies, desperate and played out.

FIrst of all, you clearly haven't the seen the movie. It isn't about a babysitter, moron. Second, the whole "the killer is inside the house" thing isn't what makes the movie good. It's a minor part of the plot. You are a moron

              Anonymous

Dog, the urban legend is called "the babysitter and the man upstairs", shortened to "the babysitter", the babysitter isn't a required element, it's just the name. It started in the early 50s after a real life case of a babysitter being raped and murdered, and was fictionally covered over and over and over in scary story anthologies and short works in papers, to the point of tedium. Countless versions with slight variations, like a ghost, or a demon, or a scary clown, or a life-size doll, etc etc etc. It was as ubiquitous as "man door hand hook car door". People only praise it now because it was one of the first actual slasher movies (though not the first, see Foster's Release, which was also based on the babysitter urban legend), and because people have stopped shoving the stupid babysitter story into every piece of media possible, so now it's a fond memory rather than an annoyance.
I'm not even saying the movie is bad, just not the best.

    Character or movie?
Whatever I will answer with both
    >Character
Jason Voorhees (Just too iconic, you may not love him but he looks cool and badass as hell)
    >Movie
Gonna throw a bomb here. But I believe The Burning 1981 is the best slasher in movie history, its because a F13th movie with a Jason knock off but the difference is that this movie is really fricking good. Everything about the movie is good. The story, the characters, the killer, the kills, the effects, the soundtrack. Its amazing.

    Definitely Freddy.
It also helps his movies have 10x better pacing than 95% of slashers, especially Friday the 13th.
Hell, in most nothing happens until 40m in, meanwhile Freddy slices and dices people through the whole movie, probably because it's not like cops or whatever can do shit to him so others knowing about the kills doesn't matter at all.

I thought Halloween (1978) was really good, the rest are not. This is basically the formula for all of them though; the Jason movies became moronic very quickly but the first is kino. Freddy movies were humorous to a degree, and didn’t really try to be as dark despite all the murder.

The original Friday the 13th is okay but I think Part 2 is the overall superior slasher movie. The rest of the sequels vary in quality but generally I think they’re a bit better than most Halloween entries.

Yea Friday the 13th Part 2 is the first one with Jason actually in it so I’ll give you that. But I’d still put the first Halloween over the first Friday the 13th as far as slashers go.

              Nope.
He is a life force vampire in that whole trilogy meaning he gets more powerful the more he kills. Ends still fits with that because he had barely killed anyone in several years and so he was inevitably much weaker combined with the severe damage he took at the end of Kills.

He is supernatural since the beginning. John Carpenter Intended to portray him as something literally inhuman in human shape to the point where in the credits the character of Michael is literally listed as ''The Shape'' instead of just Michael Myers, Carpenter also wanted to make him feel like the shark from jaws that just keeps coming back, plus the movie makes it pretty obvious with Michael just walking away after being shot 6 times. He was always supernatural, you homosexuals just did everything in your power to deny it because you think only liking realistic grounded movies makes you special, no it doesn't. That's actually why I like Ghostface the most. The incompetence. The way he's just sort of stumbling around swinging a knife makes the violence feel "real" in a way. It's how it would probably go if some teenage boys decided to don a mask and go murder people.

Weird reason maybe but I like Michael the most because he's such a blank slate, and every movement he does is uncannily deliberate. To compare him to others, Jason has someone who matters a lot to him (his dead mom) and just wants to be left alone, Freddy is a sick frick and we know there's a lot of sick fricks out there, Leatherface's family is everything to him and he's also mentally stunted etc, Michael has nothing resembling any human desire. It's hard to tell if he even finds satisfaction in doing what he does, he just does it.

People tend to be mad at the "curse" angle, but it was just continuing from what 5 was setting up, so I can't fault it: that's what sequels do. I do wish it had been more of a mystery at the start if Michael is actually back and has returned to kill. That being the "curse" to Haddonfield, not a cult.

But, whatever. I still think it's a good Halloween movie and darker than the rest in atmosphere.

It’s kind of bizarre how much they insisted on sticking to the continuity from 4 and 5. Seems like they could’ve just retconned some stuff or just soft rebooted like they ended up doing with H20.

For me the PC cut of Halloween 6 is very good.

My review of both cuts Part 1!
      > While like 5's mask the neck here is still a little too large the rest of the mask is a big improvement over 4-5 & h20.
      > Anyone who dislike Myers's conflicted behavior and tears in 5 should be pleased with his absolute zero hesitation in killing Jamie in ether version of this film.
      > I am not sure which version of Jamie's death I prefer. The weak stabbing & hospital assassination of the PC seems anti climatic for the character, but the farm implement shredding of the TC seems too mean spirited & brutal for a character we spent the last 2 films watching as a desperate sympathetic child.
      > Seeing Loomis happy and almost at peace during his 1st scene is very nice and a big change of pace from the way we have always seen him up to this point in the franchise. This early sequence with him & Dr.Wynn is a longer and better in the PC. (the film could definitely use more of their interaction & Wynn in general however)
      > The TC stupidly cuts out Loomis's reaction to finding Jamie.
      > Rudd is decent here, he gets a few sweet moment with Jamie's baby but overall is fairly emotionless (purposefully).
      > There are a few moments towards the end of the TC were Rudd gets to show more emotion then in the PC, moments were he is clearly petrified and can't do anything but semi chuckle in despair.
      > Marianne Hagan as Kara Strode is a likeable very sympathetic and motherly final girl.
      > General editing in the PC is vastly better, the TC uses a very lame, very 90s style of showing abrupt harsh flashes of gruesome images jarringly between shots. Pace of the PC is slower and feels alot more franchise appropriate.
      > The lighting is better in the PC.

        Part 2!

        > Some absolutely beautiful shots throughout the film such as the long hallway shots inside Smith's grove or the final snot of Myers leaving the Asylum wearing the stolen Man in Black suit. (Would have liked to have seen a sequel with him wearing such + the mask of course)
        > Scores are different, both are good but the PC has a more classical version of the theme & utilizes it's score better overall.
        > The PC's handling of the cult and explaining their goals/motives is VASTLY superior to the TC, PC they rightfully stick purely to the supernatural & handles such with reasonable subtlety, the TC tries to make it about mad science & doesn't explain it barely at all.
        > Scenes showing the connective tissue between 5's ending and this film are cut out of the TC.
        > The operating room massacre is cool I guess but there is no reason given in the TC's story as to why Myers would turn on the cult out of the blue with nothing at all triggering that turn. Nor is it shown who/what the cult doctors were operating on when Myers interrupted.
        > The TC's cut of John's death with his head exploding is ludicrous.
        > Myers "defeat" by magic runes in the PC while not flashy or epic at all is a lot more believable and natural to the story up to that point then TC's defeat by having skinny ass Paul Rudd beat him with a pipe, regardless of what poisons Rudd pumped him full of before the beating.
        > Ending fate's for Loomis there is no comparison, the TC is a absolute insult to Pleasence, ending the film with his off screen screams without explanation. The PC gives him a cruel but poetically appropriate ending.
        > That said It's never explained why Wynn was giving up his position as Myer's handler (a throwaway line about him having cancer or something would have sufficed) nor why he would choose Loomis who is obviously older and more frail then him.

        > Overall, the TC is a absolutely pathetic butchering of the PC which IMO is a full on good film. (far from perfect but good) Makes me wonder what is missing from the much more ambitious Hellraiser Bloodlines which I have heard was similarly edited to hell by the same company.

Jason followed by Leatherface. Freddy would be the top killer but I don't think a dream demon should count as a slasher. Myers meanwhile just feels generic compared to those three. Meanwhile Art might make it there one day but he needs some grander kills.

    Mia Goth is a revelation
She's the Bette Davis or Barbara Stanwyck from modern times.

What slashers have characters that actually protect themselves with guns and win?
It's hilarious how most of them take place in the most gungho country of the world, especially during 70s-80s and literally no one but the police has a gun.
